Wrap up videos are great! They help me determine my TBR. I think people should read as little or as much as they want - There is no compensation if you read 40 books or 400 books… just enjoy yourself! 😊
I like a range of different videos on booktube, but I'm a big fan of a wrap-up. You've echoed my thoughts already, but they offer the chance to discover new books or hear a different view on something I've read. They also give a quick insight into somebody's taste and indicate if they can articulate why they like or dislike a book, so they're a great way to decide whether to subscribe. I could understand them being less successful if the creator shared their goodreads and posted reviews there, meaning the viewer might know what's coming. Maybe it comes down to what sort of person the viewer is - some prefer information and opinions, so wrap-ups are great, others like vibes, aesthetics and getting to know the daily life of the creator, and some like a bit of everything. If somebody can read 40 books a month, then good for them, but most people I sub to are 2 to 10 books type people. I would hope viewers of 40+ books a month people would be able to work out whether they've read what they claim. For me, it's less the amount read than the ability to express their thoughts. A 40 book wrap up might be a bit much in terms of video length, but a selective summary of the best, most interesting or worst would still be achievable. At the end of the day, creators should make the videos that interest them. If that includes wrap-ups, then great.
Hear hear! Also, not everyone is on goodreads, and some people (me) just like hanging out with someone who's talking about books for a bit. It's a good time. I won't connect with anyone reading their reviews on goodreads. That's just me. But probably a few more people as well 😄
I love wrap-ups for discovering books I may not have heard of or have forgotten about. Mini rant: I read a lot of books every month (15-20), and often get comments that I'm not letting the information sit with me, etc. The thing is, I've been a reader since I was six, and I've learned how I want to read. If reading one book a month is the right thing for another lifelong or newbie reader, then that's the right thing for them. In what is largely an individualistic world, the demand for conformity, even from those who consider themselves non-conformist, is staggering. The idea of it being a competition actually irritates me 😅. It's like you can't breathe without someone thinking you're throwing shade at how they are breathing. And to be honest, now that I think about it, I'm fairly sure my breathing technique is poor, but it (sort of) works for me. 😉
I thought of you while making this video. I guess you are the channel I watch with most books in your wrap ups, and I like it! I can only imagine the comments you might get. I get some of them and I only read a fraction of the books you read 😅 And I second the irritation you feel about the competitiveness. It´s just silly..
Please, don't take the hint 😂 so many youtubers I really liked just stopped posting, I'd be sad if you stopped posting too. They didn't even make a "I quit YT video" so on the positive side, it means they might come back? on the less positive, it means I have no idea what happened to them and why they stopped posting, and that always makes me worried for them - I hope they're all ok...
Thanks! I do also hate when TH-camrs disappear without telling us first.. I am the same as you, I wonder if there is something I could do to get them back.. Also checking in on their accounts to see if they have posted is just so sad in a way.
I find wrap up videos to be quite a bit of work to do... I am not all that good at making them. I do enjoy watching them, though, more so than TBRs. I also really enjoy reading vlogs.
I think they can be difficult if I don’t feel like I have anything to say about the books I have read. It happens now and then but not that often. Bookhauls often take more time for me because of the amount and the fact that I haven’t read the books yet..
Don't quit with something you love like your wrap-ups, because the. YT algorithm didn't like it/generates not enough. klicks! The views come because it shows what you love and there are many who appreciate what you do and how you do it! I'm one of them🤩
People who read 40 books a month don't have day jobs outside of maintaining their channel. There's no reasonable way someone with a traditional job can compete. Plus, many viewers like me don't pick someone's wrap up based on the # of books they talk about; we choose based on whether or not we like the person talking about the books. I'd rather listen to you talk about 3 books than listen to certain other BookTubers talk about ten or twenty books. Just like number of videos produced: the viewers appreciate quality over quantity. Good for you for realizing that making the videos you want to make, not only are you happier, but your audience is still there. Win/win. 🥳
I guess that is true. There are also quite a few booktubers that work with books and get to read during work. I don´t think the number of books helps people enjoy the reviews more, but I do think having a large amount of books to talk about each month might be a benefit for some. I am truly happy to have people watch my wrap ups month in and out :)!
I don't understand this thing of talking about what you don't like or what you don't think other people should be doing 😂 What is the problem?! I don't want people to hurt each other or abuse each other or take advantage of each other, and I think that's pretty valid... but if someone wants to talk a little bit about the books they've read recentely, OMG LET THEM. What POSSIBLE HARM could come from that?! If it doesn't interest you to make them or watch them, that's fine - go do something else with your life. Or make a video about it, what do I care. (Obviously talking to the complainers here, not you :D) I personally love watching wrapups. I don't need a deep dive, I just want to know what the person enjoyed and/or get some recs, and then I will usually skip the rest of the review for the book I want to read, because I don't want to know anymore. And then when I've read a book, I might like a deeper discussion, but then it's all in, spoilers and all. That's a whole different concept. And I like making them, because I like to document what I read and what I thought of it, for myself, and other people sometimes have things to say about the books and then that's fun! And I can document other things as well that happened in that month, which is also fun and valuable. As for the numbers, comparison is the theif of joy no matter what your hobby is. So it's a mental and/or social thing (stress, jealousy, status, etc). It's not about the wrapup. I'm very upset. Enjoyed hearing your thoughts though ^^ And your wrapups.
Absolutely agree. Documenting the reads by doing wrap-ups is a good way of “relearing” the experience of the books. Comparison in almost every case is indeed useless. No one has ever lived the same life as another person.. luckily.
100% agree, I love watching wrap-up videos!
I love all the videos - wrap ups, tags, Friday Reads, hauls.
I also love watching wrap ups, I find great books to read from those wrap ups 😊
I really like making and watching wrap ups for exactly the reasons you mention - they’re a quick way to get an overview of a lot of books
Completely agree!

I think what I struggle to understand is not the amount some get through, but remembering 30-40 reads in a short time period must be difficult..

@@becomingabookworm That's fair. Lately I've in general been late with all editing, so... yeah.
I like editing when there is plenty of time, if there is not it is kind of a pain..
@@becomingabookworm I have been so busy at work lately, so getting quite tired...
