Request you all follow my style.I am a Tamilian living in North India and can speak Hindi fluently . The moment I touch Arakkonam I don’t speak a single word in Hindi other then army or doctors... When North Indians in Tamil Nadu ask why I don’t speak in Hindi despite knowing it, I said, “Bro, I learnt Hindi for my survival outside Tamil Nadu and not an outsider survival inside Tamil Nadu “!
( Update: Don’t fall prey for ppl who give us advise for us to learn Hindi. They suggest us to learn Hindi for their well being here and not our well being. Only on our dead body Chennai will become like Bangalore or Hyderabad or Mumbai where u ppl show middle finger to local language)

I faced that problem in TN because of North family. Then I said to them "ur seat is upper seat" Like that, they seemed like to be confused. Then I said " ooper ooper " 😃. They were put their heavy Luggages on my leg while I slept, then suddenly I woke up. One stranger (grandpa helped me) told them to take back their luggage in that time.

If you're not from south India, people will call you as 'North Indian'.

I know difference between Marathi and Hindi.
For your information marathi, gujarati, bengali, hindi, odia, punjabi and many more all are indo-aryan language. Marathi & hindi write in devnagari script. Basically if you know hindi then you can easily learn marathi and vice versa 😇😇😇😇

The thing is, the local language influences how we speak but North Indians must make an effort to integrate in TN like Telugu people do. Integrated Telugu people speak great Tamil in TN and integrated Tamil people speak great Telugu to each other. A lil accent is ok but appreciate the integration all are capable of.

I am not sure about Holi being celebrated with this craze In TN and in fact in South India for that matter. I have lived in Bengaluru for 5 years and didn't see Kannidigas this excited for Holi festival...

All my close friends have telugu origins. They only speak it at home and it's mixed with Tamil. It's easy to fit in if your telugu, mallu, or Kannadiga in TN.

I've listened to many debates and after thinking about it, here are my opinions -
We have no problem in speaking English because documentation in school and jobs are in english. Also We do have our own entertainment (Movies, music ) , Literature and news are in our own language(Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, and Malayalam) And films Industries each have many Box Office hits like 100s of crores .Also don't forget we have different scripts while north indian languages or scripts are so similar to hindi .
Making one language - national language will give its native speakers unfair advantage over others. This shouldn't happen because we need equality. Already Hindi being official language and used in Government Exams/Forms and bank applications give lesser literterate hindi speaker advantage over lesser literate non-hindi speaker.
If you say Hindi is your Mother Tongue and spoken by majority then those who have their own Mother Tongue like Marathi, Telugu , Bengali, Kannada and Tamil also have population of 8- 5 crores which are more than many european countries, South Korea, Thailand and Japan. so Marathi, Telugu , Bengali, Kannada and Tamil people can also have their languages as Complete medium of instruction .
Already Central government is only decided on the basis of Hindi belt because of high concentration seats they have and after delimitation of seats in 2026 Maha, WB and All South States will lose their representation in law making and government. Crores of people in India in lived their livess without Hindi and English both. Please Respect other languages and people .
Hindi speakers come to Bengaluru, Hyderabad and Chennai and abuse their languages and culture and even after many years of living they don't try to learn their language but Let me ask is that same possible for non-hindi speaker to live in delhi without learning hindi. We all know how much they respect diversity and how all this talk about diversity is just one-sided. With High education in Women, Urbanization and Low Birth rate Native South Indians will eventually die out with their languages. Please we already have our own lot of problems Let us live peacefully.

Good to see the respect you have for your language, Hindi imposition is bad without any doubt.. We would be even more happy if Tamil ppl follow same rules and start respecting the local language/culture when you go/settle outside TN (In India or outside India)
Not only Tamil People any other language people automatically speak and adapt to the language of the place they settle in. It’s only when someone from north visits/work/settle in Bangalore/Chennai expect everyone to be speaking Hindi and don’t adapt to the place they settle.
