I'm a Brahmin and none of my class mates even knew I'm a Brahmin, except for my closest friends. Once a friend in a drunk state tried to force feed non veg which I politely refused. That is when my close friends informed him in a Brahmin and that guy was surprised. This was during my final year. Somehow, this video is back to trend. Really. First of all, why should I eat food from others plate and allow others to eat from my plate? Is this not decency? What logic that a person who can't eat from others plate feels low unless he is an idiot? Well, I came to US, was hesitant whether the local culture accept simple habits and behaviors. One day, went to SUBWAY to have sandwich. They serve vegetable sandwich but not sure about their serving habits. Not everyone is like that. My friend (Tambrahm) is the first one to keep hands on my plate if I have vegetarian food. Obviously, they feel garlic annoying because it is mostly used in non-veg food so they try to avoid it. I am not bhramin but I respect everyone. It is only in Kerala, people with caste names do not practice any kind of oppression as vigorously as any other states in India. Even in Tamil Nadu, we just don't have caste names, but we are all mostly casteists. Go ask for a loan in any banks of India with the surname of Bania and Brahmin castes, and you will be offered loan in a jiffy. So it is not just oppression but favouritism that is being given to certain castes can also be seen as an unfair practice and oppression to other castes.

I've never been interested to talk/ think about religions and castes.. but this video irritates me and makes me think that Brahmins are way better in their intentions, thoughts and actions than how others perceive our actions and get offended unwantedly. For instance, we don't eat from one another's plate, regardless of your caste/gender/age/relationship/food habits. You are offended, just because you do not know that your friend wouldn't eat from his own family member's plate either. There are many hygiene practices followed in the community, due to which, especially the elderly people can't withstand a person (be it their own grand child) biting/eating a fruit or a snack and not washing the hands immediately (even if it is not sticky). Honestly, it is quite hard for me to explain it all here, as you could still mistake my words and take it offensively. Only if you watch closely and try to understand or get to know the practises you might stop getting offended. If a person deliberately puts someone down or insults someone, then it is wrong, regardless of his caste/community, be it Vikals Vikram also.
First as a brahmin, try to be self critical of your social privilege. That's the bare minimum. You can't be defensive while facing a critique and while also being caste-blind all the while. Just look how civil rights movement succeeded, not just by relentless struggles of blacks but also because of conscientious measures of justice and solidarity by the significant numbers of white people who critically engaged with their racial/social privilege.

I had a Brahmin friend in high school. She turned non veg n one day my friends and I went to her place. This was 3 decades n her granny started shouting at her n went into the kitchen n started throwing pots n pans loudly. My friends told me it's a Brahmin non Brahmin thing. Somehow, this video is back to trend. Really. First of all, why should I eat food from others plate and allow others to eat from my plate? Is this not decency? What logic that a person who can't eat from others plate feels low unless he is an idiot? Well, I came to US, was hesitant whether the local culture accept simple habits and behaviors. One day, went to SUBWAY to have sandwich. They serve vegetable sandwich but not sure about their serving habits. A lady in her 50s standing ahead of me was ordering a Veg Sandwich and then she said "CHANGE YOUR GLOVES RIGHT NOW. How can you touch my food after touching meat? Don't you have the awareness?".. The Subway person apologized and changed he gloves. I was like "Wow, Can we say this in America?". That day, I realized why Americans are unique and fight for their rights. It is only in Kerala, people with caste names do not practice any kind of oppression as vigorously as any other states in India. Go ask for a loan in any banks of India with the surname of Bania and Brahmin castes, and you will be offered loan in a jiffy. I've never been interested to talk/ think about religions and castes.. but this video irritates me and makes me think that Brahmins are way better in their intentions, thoughts and actions than how others perceive our actions and get offended unwantedly. For instance, we don't eat from one another's plate, regardless of your caste/gender/age/relationship/food habits. You are offended, just because you do not know that your friend wouldn't eat from his own family member's plate either. There are many hygiene practices followed in the community, due to which, especially the elderly people can't withstand a person (be it their own grand child) biting/eating a fruit or a snack and not washing the hands immediately (even if it is not sticky). Honestly, it is quite hard for me to explain it all here, as you could still mistake my words and take it offensively. Only if you watch closely and try to understand or get to know the practises you might stop getting offended. If a person deliberately puts someone down or insults someone, then it is wrong, regardless of his caste/community, be it Vikals Vikram also.

I had a Brahmin friend in high school. She turned non veg n one day my friends and I went to her place. This was 3 decades n her granny started shouting at her n went into the kitchen n started throwing pots n pans loudly. My friends told me it's a Brahmin non Brahmin thing. I was relieved coz I thought it was a muslim thing 🤣but apart from me the rest of my friends are all hindus. (Non Brahmin) BTW this was so weird as I Grew up in Hk.
