    In respect to the people who commented on the previous video (which will be deleted shortly due to this one), the comments from those who commented are at the end of the video (whether you want to transcribe them or not), as I added 2 games that you requested (After Burner Complete vs After Burner II and Stellar Assault vs Stellar Assault SS) and included a bonus game, which was Tempo vs Super Tempo, since they are the only "Tempo" games on their respective systems.

    All 4 Model 1 arcade games should have been ported to the 32X, also System 16 arcade games. All in house Sega games, should have been no problem to port.

    • @lazarushernandez5827
      @lazarushernandez5827 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +7

      It did get three of the Model 1 games, Virtua Racing, Virtua Fighter and Star Wars Arcade.
      And it was getting some of the System 16 Superscalars, Space Harrier and After Burner Complete were pretty much a match to the Arcade versions, and Outrun was supposedly next up.
      I definitely agree, It would have been really cool to get all of those System 16/18/X/Y board games, Enduro Racer, Super Monaco GP, ThunderBlade, G-Loc, Power Drift, Galaxy Force 2, Turbo Outrun...
      It probably could have handled the System 32 titles as well (or at least have done very solid ports)..

      Not easy to port. The 32X hardware is radically different to the arcade hardware.
      The games all need building from scratch.

      @@iwanttocomplain Yeap and building from scratch takes time, something Sega had none at the time since they too had to decide whether to focus on 32X or Saturn. Picking one will likely doom the other so Saturn it is.

    You know, its kind of surprising how good a job the 32x was actually doing here. Some stuff I think the more pixel art genesis look to the 32x stuff might have helped it AGE better. And some of the stuff on 32x would look better on a real CRT as well. But ROTTK 4 I think looks better on 32x. If I remember MK2 and DOOM actually played better despite being graphically less impressive. Some of the others I can go back and forth on like after burner and Tempo.

    Sega blew the chance to be pioneer in multidev compatibility. Back in the day many people thought that SegaCD 32X would run saturn games. If it did I don't have a doubt that everybody would upgrade. Shortly after this fiasco came the Dreamcast which was superb for its time. Beautiful system.

    A nice comparison. In most games you can clearly see where the Genesis is contributing to the overall picture.
    The 32x was pretty good on its own, showing up with some pretty impressive ports considering the very short amount of time they brought it all together. Star Wars Arcade, After Burner Complete, Virtua Racing Deluxe, Space Harrier and Virtua Fighter, did great to decent jobs replicating those titles at home.
    Now if imagine if Sega had managed to plan everything out.
    If they were dead set on making two 32 bit consoles, one as an entry point, and the other as the flagship, they should have planned for compatibility. Development on the Saturn started as early as 1992, and it released in Japan in 94. The 32X was conceptualized in early 94 and brought to market in late 94.
    Sega could have easily had a cartridge based Saturn as it in 1994.
    -You release a Saturn spec 32X add on and a Neptune standalone, being backwards compatible with the 16 bit. Instead of splitting the userbase you are pushing the next platform.
    -This platform/console is cartridge based but virtually identical internally to the Saturn except it does not include the 2X CD ROM drive.
    At this point CD based console gaming was still an expensive proposition:
    -Sega's own Mega CD was $300 at launch + the base console,
    -The PC Engine + CD ROM was more affordable but did not catch in all regions,
    -and the 3DO was around $700 at launch.
    They could've still launch a cartridge based platform in 93-94 (with the promise of a CD attachment further down the road).
    Pricewise they could've brought it in at $200 USD (very competitive with the SNES at the time) while the 32X add-on is $150 (the Genesis was around $80-90 at the time, so coming fresh to Sega buying the standalone would be less money upfront).
    This system would have the muscle to outclass the SNES, the Jaguar and the 3DO, and at a $200-250 price tag it gives Sega a good first step into the 32 bit age. (this assumes Sony still releases their PSX/PS1 at $299 USD toting CD-ROM as their advantage).

    -You then launch the Saturn platform properly, Sega can take a bit more time to polish it up, and build the library because you already have compatible presence on the market, say a 95-96 launch.
    At this point some components should be more cost effective, and you can bring newer tech than what is on the market (assuming Sony PSX/PS1 still launches in 94 in Japan and 95 in the West). Instead of launching at $400 bring it at $300-350.
    - At this point you also release a 2X CD rom attachment for the Neptune containing any enhancements the Saturn gained in the interim onboard: this could be priced at $150-200, bringing either parity in price, or an incentive to buy the all in one Saturn.
    Maybe it went that way in an alternate reality...

    • @jsr734
      @jsr734 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      Sega should have never released the 32x and focus on selling their Genesis inventory, supporting the system as Nintendo did with the Snes until the release of the N64. All the Segas (Japan, America and Europe) should have focus on supporting the Saturn as their only and truly next gen system.

    • @VOAN
      @VOAN 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      Tbh the 32X should had been that cartridge slot on the Saturn since they both use almost identical hardware anyways. It's too bad it wasn't so, Sega of America really don't want to leave the 32X that much but were force to do so anyways.

Some of the 32x stuff that was more pixel art based would also prob look smoother on a CRT, so that effect that cant really translate well into YT vids wont come through. With more dedicated development & with less memory limitations (Doom Resurrection 32X), it would've been great as there weren't load times for it. In fact, it'd be fun if Sega somehow allowed official game development (or improvements like Doom Resurrection) for what the Neptune would've been & start releasing downloadable ROMs for emulators. You'd probably have millions of gamers lapping that stuff up. Might be a good money maker. But I don't know the technical aspects of everything so I don't know how this all would work out. Fun to think about though

    I like the 32X it has some good games for it like my personal favourite version of Mortal Kombat 2 and Doom.
    Other games like Space Harrier and After Burner just feel right on the 32x.
    Virtua Fighter and Virtua Racing made great use of the Hardware.
    But the actual problem is when 32x games are comparable to their Sega Saturn counterparts and better in some cases there's something wrong since the Sega Saturn was way more powerful than the 32x.
    As much as I like the 32x it would have been better historically if they would not have split their development resources across two 32bit platforms and just concentrated on releasing better quality on the Sega Saturn.
    There's really no excuse for Virtua Fighter and Virtua Racing to be better on the 32x.
    Mortal Kombat 2 is a terrible port to the Sega Saturn too which looks good but plays nothing like MK2.

    Afterburner - Its a toss up for me, this one I can see minor things I like about both. So this is a PUSH.
    Corpse Killer - I like the UI of the 32X version, but the Saturn one is better over all. Saturn win.
    Doom - 32x one wins simply cause I remember it plays better and smoother, Saturn one had some issues.
    FIFA 96 - Clear Saturn win on looks, but I dont know how playable the 32x one is.
    MK2 - Played better then the Saturn one. 32x win even if it looks slightly worse.
    NBA jam - This one is a toss up for me again. Saturn looks cleaner, but both play well, and 32x having smaller sprites makes it easier to see whats going on.
    Primal rage - Saturn one clearly looks better. Saturn has the edge here and wins. But the 32x one is not bad, for primal rage that is)
    RotTK 4 - 32x is a clear winner here, the Older Pixel art design is just miles better then the saturn simple looking one.
    Space Harrier - is another draw.
    Shadow Squad vs Steller assault - they are different enough to be considered different games IMO, I like the UI on SS more, but the SA looks way cleaner and faster paced. SA wins I think.
    Virtua fighter - The remix saturn one wins easily, but when it was VF vs the first VF game that was a buggy mess on saturn, the 32x one was better playing. Remix by technicality.
    Virtue racing - another Tie. Personally I think the better visibility because they UI elements are less cluttered is better on the 32x. But the graphics on Saturn are better.
    Tempo - Another tie as preference comes down to some minor things.
    Wrestlemania - Another tie for me. Saturn is graphically better, but you can see more of the ring on the 32x version.
    3Dx - 3 wins
    Saturn - 5 wins
    Ties - 6

    In terms of which one is better, here's my vote and reason:
    After Burner = Sega Saturn (faster speed on Saturn wins every time)
    Corpse Killer = Sega Saturn (them borders for 32X are not good)
    Doom = Sega 32X (Saturn version feels very janky and stuttering, 32X all the way)
    FIFA Soccer 96 = Sega Saturn (Saturn version seem to play better)
    Mortal Kombat II = Sega Saturn (while 32X plays better, the graphics, colors, and music are inaccurate compare to Saturn)
    NBA Jam = Sega Saturn (Saturn version seem to had better gameplay and sounds)
    Primal Rage = Sega 32X (the Saturn's jpeg skies are blurry and terrible, 32X wins this one)
    Romance of the Three Kingdom = Both version sucks so no winner or loser here
    Space Harrier = Sega 32X (while Saturn version runs faster it had less details)
    Shadow Squadron = Sega Saturn (Saturn version got faster gameplay and give you that arcade feel, 32X version feels like it want to put you to sleep)
    Tempo = Both play quite decently so no winner or loser here either
    Virtua Fighter = Sega 32X (Saturn version is very buggy and had way too many polygon pop-off and on)
    Virtua Racing = Sega Saturn (Saturn had faster gameplay, more tracks, and accurate graphics, definitely a win indeed)
    WWF WrestleMania Arcade = Sega Saturn (Saturn version runs much smoother and is more arcade accurate)
    Overall = Sega Saturn Wins

      Unpopular opinion: Personally I feel Saturn had no need to exist. Yes, I agree Saturn definitely looks better vs 32x. An important thing people need to consider in this comparison is the price. 32x was released at $159 and Saturn $399 in 1994 money. Thats $326 vs $820 when converted to 2023 money. Does Saturn look THAT massive amount of money better? Saturn was destined to be screwed either way with PS1 coming out a month later for $100 cheaper and Sega supposedly already taking a loss on the hardware. At least 32x was half the price vs PS1 going for it. The Genesis install base was massive and getting into the next generation for that little money seemed like a bargain at the time. Initial sales of 32x reflect that and it was a huge success at launch. I believe 32x could have worked for a few years until they could have made a big enough leap in specs over PS1. Imagine if Sega went from 32x/Neptune to a new console in like late 96 or early 97. That's enough years for 32x to have gotten a decent enough library to keep people happy before talking about a new console, plus they would have had the Genesis library with backward compatibility. Sega would have then had a 3 year head start before needing to compete with PS2 and its DVD drive.

      @@ynk1121 It would have not worked. If Saturn didn´t exist and the only option Sega users had was the 32x is most likely most of that player base would have migrated to Play Station. Yes Play Station migh have been more expensive than the 32x but also would have looked much more technologically advanced, with better resolution, better framerates and better colors. If Sega took more time to release their next gen system then they would likely meet competing with an established Play Station and the release of the new N64. If they waited even longer and release something after the N64 the market already could have switched to Play Station and N64 and their new machine will get outdated pretty fast with the advent of the Ps2.

      @@jsr734 Saturn already had Sega fans migrating to Playstion and for good reason. I don't see what Saturn brought to the table. With most games I can barely tell a difference between it and the $100 cheaper PS1. What was it's reason to exist? Why would anyone buy it over PS1? At least 32x demolished PS1 on price at $159 vs $299, and I think price mattered a lot by looking at the very successful launch of 32x. I remember them being sold out absolutely everywhere and it wasn't due to artificial scarcity. I just googled sales numbers, and my memory is accurate. They were indeed sold out with over a 500k units sold in the first month. Retail orders were at over a million in that short time and Sega couldn't keep up with fulfilling them. That's nothing to scoff at. I think you are missing the big picture. 32x didn't need to be a best selling console and it didn't need to be the most powerful console. All consoles are there for the purpose of turning a profit. I really don't see it being the awful flop it was if Saturn didn't exist. I do think they could have sold enough to be profitable with Gensis doing as well as it did and it's low price to getting people into the 32bit generation. Another big point to make is it was Saturn that destroyed Segas reputation with retailers. It's Saturn's rushed launch that pissed retailers off enough to make them stop carrying Segas products.
      On a side note about performance, a lot of 32x games were horribly rushed. Look up how Doom Resurrection 32x compares to the competition to see what the system could do if developers put in the proper effort.

      No what killed Sega was Sega of Japan not letting Tom Kalinske and Sega of America keep rolling out the plan they had for the 32X. The 32X was the most successful 5th generation console in 1994 with 600,000 sells in the United States compared to 500,000 Japanese Sega Saturns and 300,000 Japanese Sony Playstations. Many who had the 32X were fine with it. It wasn't until we starting hearing that it was gone to be pulled so Sega could focus more on the Saturn that kids and families lost hope in the system. This was a bad move that was clearly Sega of Japan's idea that they forced. Regardless of how excited Sega of Japan was with the successful launch of the Saturn in Japan. The 32X had a more successful launch in the United States compared to the Saturn launch in Japan. The US 32X launch of games was better also than the Japanese Saturn launch of games.
