  • A walk around my home town, Penzance in beautiful 4K. It took me a while to think of the perfect route for a virtual walk around this historic Cornish market town, but I think I've managed to get all the highlights in.
Starting in Penlee Park the walk takes in most of Penzance's Georgian and Regency streets as well as a stroll around the subtropical greenery of Morrab Gardens.
I briefly head down to the Promenade and Jubilee Pool before heading up Penzance's most historic (and fascinating) thoroughfare, Chapel Street.
Following a quick look at the town centre we head up Causewayhead with its many independent shops before finishing up in Penzance's poshest postcode - literally a gated community!
For more Penzance exploring have a look at my Seafront walk video( • PENZANCE Seafront and ... ) which takes in the Promenade, Jubilee Pool and harbour.
And for more general info about the West Cornwall town check out www.cornwalls....

Stayed with you until the very end.....a great walk around PZ....thanks for the walk throight St. Anthony's....my grandfather, a stone mason, helped to build the gardens. Wanted to see if construction had started at the top of Causeway Head as my uncle used to be an auctioneer at the livestock yard...all gone now, but good to see the Penzance from afar here in Pennsylvania.

      Thanks Jennifer.
I wasn't planning on walking through Anthony Gardens but there was a gap in the traffic and the camera seemed to be pointing that way!
I used to love playing in the old cattle market at the top of Causewayhead when they had all the pens in there. Think I can even remember there being a market on - seems like a long time ago now though!

@@cornwallguide You are so right. I loved how you walked in areas most would not go. I woke this morning imaging you continuing on your walk up past the tree with the beautiful carving, hospital, cricket pitch...love those tall pine trees, and then a walk around the cemetery. Enjoy your day.

Nice walk through Penzance. Was hoping for a bit longer walk but it was still enjoyable.

      Thanks Jim.
Couple of reasons I didn't make it longer. The first is my camera setup was too heavy - arms were almost falling off after 10 minutes!
The other one is there's another half an hour here: th-cam.com/video/thDPCM7HzTc/w-d-xo.html (Seafront & harbour)
Think there's quite a few bits I'd like to film so there will be more Penzance films to come...

@@cornwallguideI had already seen the earlier one too, very nice. I love the parts of Penzance that perhaps wouldn't be great video material, Bread Street, Belgravia Street, Victoria Square, top of town beyond Taroveor Rd, up Lescudjack etc. So many hidden corners of town.

Thoroughly enjoyed it. Never followed a walking thing before. Do you ever do a commentary at all. I am sure the history must be fascinating.

    • @cornwallguide

Thanks. I do sometimes record some commentary, but I find it quite difficult - need more practice. I know if I tried it whilst I was recording I'd forget where I was going!

Where the hell have all the people gone?
Back in the 60's and 70's this place was vibrant.
In 5 more years they'll be changing the name from Penzance to Tombstone!

Ha ha! Sunday morning - always strangely quiet in Pz. Doesn't often feel like that though. That said Market Jew Street is always seems to be empty...

Maybe there's an excuse for it being Sunday but Market Jew St. has become a mere shadow of what it used to be. I lived there from 1955-1986 and never wanted to live anywhere else; sadly it appears to be declining in the number of decent shops and facilities.

Pensans is a lovely town with much of its historic architecture surviving and even some recent modern additions that contribute positively to our community; Ground Floor section of the Exchange Art Gallery on Princess Street - but then I'm biased because I live there. There are a couple of carbuncles spoiling things of course, such as the building with scaffolding around it, appearing at 03:15 here (not much wrong with that eye-sore that a few sticks of dynamite wouldn't rectify!).

    • @cornwallguide
      @cornwallguide  ปีที่แล้ว

Agreed. Penlowarth, as it was originally called is testament to the arrogance of planners in the 60s and 70s. To build something this brutal and towering between the sub-tropical gardens and Georgian streets is just beyond belief. It has just had a make-over so looks a little better, but yes dynamite would have been better!
