in the UK the very best "prison wine" can be made from Ribena (ribes/black currant concentrate). it has to be the old-school sweetener free style.
Americans are probably unfamiliar with black current but in the UK it is often the first fruit flavour children try thanks to the popularity of Ribena as a childrens drink. its ubiquitous.
its sweet and tart and unique. it has near perfect acidity and flavour profiles to make a wine that adults can appreciate.

In Brazil they use a bread to make "cachaça", the original is made with cane, but this my friend is a "piece of art".
You need a bread, why bread? Because in the composition we have fungus, with this they use a plastic to make a lot fungus (for more then 15 dias), so after the bread putrify, they put inside the bottle with sugar and water, and every day you need expel the gas, after the days pass, we have somenthing alcoholic (The original Cachaça de pão), if you want drink this you can do it, but have tast of vomit, another stage call Maria Louca, is use a large bucket and put this liquid inside, and put rebar with energy to heat the water, they grab a new plastic and put over the bucket, to prevent any air from entering, to final steap they use a pen and make a small hole in the plastic and put the pen, all the vapor that came out is the Maria Louca and similar a cachaça.

I made a wild wine with acerola once when I was on a fermentation rampage after reading Sandor Katz' book tasting every day to see when it was done. In one morning it was tasting bright, fresh, tangy and delicious in the morning. By the evening when I went bottling it tasted just like you described there, I couldn't through it away so I bottled it anyway and left in the back of the shelf for 18 months, more or less. It completely changed in color assuming a a brownish tone and I decided to give it a taste and it completely changed from that nail polish to the most incredible vermouth... worth to keep it.

Fruit cups, packs of sugar, and apple juice? What prison did this info come from???
Sugar and yeast can be smuggled out of the chow hall, but you're not gonna generally find any fermentable fruits. Your more likely to be using ketchup and artificial maple syrup

We mostly make apple cider with wild yeast at home. Usually it goes well but there are a batch from time to time that either has methanol or turns vinegar both having that destinct nail polish smell. Pour it in the toilet and do not drink it is my suggestion.

    • @TheExalaber

Methanol doesn't have that flavor. The nail polish remover flavor is caused by acetaldehyde. This is a metabolite of ethanol and indicates either an infection that is consuming your product, or significant oxidation.

I am in the process of making mulberry wine. I bought a bottle of mulberry juice from the grocery store that wasn’t from concentrate. I added bread yeast. Found that it fermented fast. It was super dry but was still fermenting. So I’ve been adding sugar for over a month now and it’s still brewing away. As the bubbles slow down. I add more sugar and it just keeps going. I was hoping to have it ready for Christmas but it’s still fermenting. I tried a balloon with a hole in it. Didn’t work. Balloon filled with bubbly juice. So I’m just keeping the cap on it and I burp it every so often.

ima add some of the tips to make the prison wine more "drinkable" First wash grapes and soaked with salt water for approximately 15 mins(i dont know the exact concentration od the solution so it probs doesnt matter) next wash them again then let 'em dry when they dried up smash them and add sugar(no addition of water), i prefer rock sugar since it makes the thing more smooth, table sugar usually makes it tangy so i wont recommend, Put em in a container put and sprinkle sugar on top forming a layer (alternatively u can choose to not crush the grapes at all but put them in alternating layers beetween sugar and grape this should prevent mold). let it sit the thing will slowly ferment by its on and voila! wine. This is how my grandparents do it(im from an south east asian country) i can say it is safe enough to drink atleast to asian standards.i know im kinda late to comment 4 weeks later lol

    • @beomeme
      @beomeme 3 วันที่ผ่านมา

this is also how i make my first batch of alcohol beverage really so i say some extra tips will be use glass container and no u dont need a water valve or bubbler just make sure it wont explode by using a big container. Plastic is fine also but really using that makes it a time bomb. u should also generally open the cap slightly everyonce in a while to release the gas. Should be fine to drink after 2 week at maximum.( more note rahhh. for every 1kg of grape u use add 250 to 350 grams of sugar)

If you take the bag down to the showers and let it sit in the steam half the day it will cook in 4-6 days and I've definitely hit some hooch around 15% based around how much liquor we got when we distilled it using a stinger and some more plastic bags.

The pruno on our block melted the varnish when the cop found it and poured it out onto the floor. I tried a small sip for free because I contributed my oranges. It was... potent. Not my thing but I'm glad I tried a little. FOR SCIENCE!

I had to stay in the county for doing 117 in a 55 but they would use the bread crust for yeast. They would smoke banana peels too. Dk why

You were missing a piece of bread for yeast. Inmates don't have access to yeast unless you work kitchen detail. So they add a piece of bread for yeast.

Nobody ever made hooch like that.
All we used was orange juice and sugar.

When I was inside one of the wing cleaners used to distill his hooch . We’d all end up with about half a coke can off it for a Saturday night as out wing would get locked open so we had the full access to our wing from about 4:30 till about 9 as long as we all behaved

The look of this stuff and your description of the flavour are almost exactly the same as the time I tried to make wine from Welch's frozen grape juice. (I do not recommend making wine from Welch's frozen grape juice)
