I appreciate you guys putting this out there. We can't all have Mark Herman around to teach us great games so this is a nice alternative. I see why South Pacific is such a fun way to learn the system and the way of thinking about space and movement.
Sorry to miss the live event but really enjoyed watching this and especially fun to have Mark Herman’s instructional and historical commentary. Brilliant.
Utile encore aujourd'hui.
Terrific video Fred. Getting the designer to run it is a fantastic idea. I particularly liked the way you asked clarifying and confirming questions, as Mark obviously knows his system so well that the rest of us struggle to keep up. Keep up the great work!

Amazing video, thank you gentlemen! A question regarding the battle of port Moresby at 1:02:20. Is it possible for the Allies to defensively AA from Noumea into pt. Moresby using the carriers as escort? The HQ in Townsville activates and activates the Marine SF + at least one carrier (up to all 3). It’s 10 hexes apart, whole stack moves at once, Allies can use 1ASP in reaction which they have, the enemy AZOI is negated by the australian air unit and reacting AA units land even if the air/naval is lost. This would give Allies an extra shot at leveling the step losses, negate the japanese +2 for being the only one having naval units (and making the x2 result impossible), possibly forcing the attacker to retreat in PBM. Again, thanks for making this awesome session! In my sessions I am finding pt. Moresby to be impossible to take due to Allies always being able to react into it. And if it’s not taken on the first japanese turn, allies can ship reinforcements unopposed closing any chance of losing it. The 6-6 unit japan has is more of a threat-piece for me, forcing the Allies to always cover their bases. What an amazing game this is once all rules fall into place
This was an awesome idea. Just bought the game. Haven't opened it yet as I'd like to see how it plays so I know how to play it right. The attack on Rabaul at the beginning to duplicate the battle of Salvo island was a huge tell on game mechanics. Can't than you enough for doing this.
@@HomoLudens1871 this game is so deep and complex that i would jot be surprised. It is my favourite Mark Herman game though I must say Pericles is the best Mark Herman game imho.

At 1:24:16 US Army Air flies into unoccupied Gili Gili. Is that legal? Control is defined by the last land unit to occupy the hex. How can air take control of a hex?
@@HomoLudens1871 if you can get Herman’s advice that would be great. Might be nuanced….flip full strength air and infantry but no removals from map. Naval unaffected. But I’m not sure.
De rien! It's a worthy quest, I hope that this video will help. There is a small minor error during supply at the end of the turn, but activate the Klingon subtitle, it explains everything when it happens.
Had one fluke game, poor Japs got the worst possible hand on turn 2, the only military event card was Ants. To add to their problems the allies was able to keep them under ISR right from the off until midway through turn 5. Turns 3 and 4 were not any better in terms of useful military cards. Needless to say it was a blowout, called the game at turn 6. Would love to see how Mark or some expert player would be able to play this type of game, is it possible?

Thanks Marcelo, happy you enjoyed it! Regarding Erasmus, as I'm not a big fan of solo gaming I don't think I'm the right person to ask.
Could the Japanese react to the Gili Gili move as it wasn't a battle hex and it wasn't an enemy port?
Also, in the attack at Gili Gili Shaun rolled a 9, isn't that a critical hit?
Shouldn’t the Japanese player be entitled to a +3 die modifier for the attacker using amphibious transport? I am referring to the Guadalcanal battle
Oh... good question, I'll have to check back later today, I don't have the game in mind. I'll keep you posted.

Combat Commander would be a great game if it had constructed decks. But it doesn't, so it isn't. It's just a card game with counters.
