    I like the idea that Pamela killing the teens was a sacrifice to bring her son back from the dead but when she died it messed the ritual up and so Jason came back as an evil killer.

    The camp where they filmed Friday The 13th now offers a "Friday The 13th Visitors Package" which allows fans to stay at the camp in the offseason, it only costs $10.000 US.

    the twist of the killer in this movie still works. People who hear of this film series think of the iconic killer (JASON) and when they finally sit down (for the first time) to watch they end up surprised at who actually is the killer

    I wish that I could have seen this and all other classics in cinema back when these movies were showing things noone had shown before. The movies are still great now, but most people get the ending spoiled way before actually watching it which takes away a bit of the charm when seeing it for the first time.

    Oooooh, I hope we'll be seeing more of this series. Unlike Hellraiser, the quality doesn't drop off so sharply in the sequels. To all the fans, I highly recommend Crystal Lake Memories which is a documentary covering the making of all the of the Friday the 13th films.
    Also, I believe the first F13 is the only film in the series that shows us which state Crystal Lake is in. It's New Jersey 6:47 .

    They definitely didn’t ruin it with the sequels cause imo the sequels that followed, particularly the next three, were all better than the original one is I think. I even enjoy the utter cheesiness and badness of A New Beginning to the first one as well. It’s just so over the top with all its sleaziness and ridiculousness that I just cant help but sit back and watch it. Part V is a classic so bad it’s good horror flick!

    I saw it when it came out (I was just about to enter 10th grade) and when I saw it I could not understand what the big deal was. All of my peers claimed it was "the scariest movie ever made," a claim they later made about Poltergeist, and all I thought about it was that it was merely gory and not scary or suspenseful in the least.

    At the end of the film, when Alice is in the canoe and is attacked by Jason, wasn't she rescued by the cop standing at the side of the lake?

    • @mariolopez3728
      @mariolopez3728 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Galantski No man. The boat sequence was just a dream. The hospital scene actually did happen.

    • @Galantski
      @Galantski 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It's not clear one way or the other, is it? Watch the discussion starting at 27:38, where Ian notes that the policemen later told Alice, "We pulled you out of the lake". That took place in the real world, not a dream. Besides, if Jason attack actually happened it's the most logical way to justify sequels, since otherwise he died because of negligent camp leaders--game over.
      Of course, horror sequels don't always have logical continuity, and if that's the case here, she might have just dreamed Jason. But there's another problem with it being a dream sequence, and that's the camera's point of view. It's not shot like it's from Alice's point of view, which would be the more usual way of shooting such a scene. It's like there's just the establishing shot from across the lake, then closer up, as Jason springs from the water.
      A proper dream sequence would have the establishing shot, then a closer up one, then one from inside the canoe with the viewer seeing what she does. Say, perhaps, she sees a friend on the shore, waves, then turns back to look at the water when Jason pounces. Maybe the lack of knowledge in how to storyboard the scene caused the ambiguity as to whether Jason was really alive or just a figment of her imagination.

    • @mariolopez3728
      @mariolopez3728 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Galantski You make a lot of good points man....and all of them are very valid. But yes, that scene of Jason attacking Alice is just a dream. If she had indeed encounted Jason, he would have drowned her and that scene would have ended the movie. Instead, she wakes at the hospital all hysterical after dreaming that Jason had attacked her. I understand how confusing it can be. As you say, there are a lot of continuity errors in horror movies. And another reason why I know it was a dream? In Friday the 13th Part 2 it starts off when Jason kills Alice at her apartment. So it's kind of like she had a premonition type like dream that even though she escaped Camp Crystal....that she was still destined to die at the hands of Jason Vorhees.

    • @Galantski
      @Galantski 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I'm not as well versed as you in the various installments in the franchise, so thanks for bringing up the opening of Part 2. You may well be right, but then what are we looking at at the end of the original after the attack? Alice wakes up terrified in the hospital, but are we really sure it was just a dream or more like a flashback?
      The sheriff says two of his men rescued her out of the water, which suggests she was in the canoe. She asked him if Jason was still alive, but he acts like he doesn't know who she's talking about. Isn't it possible that they just didn't see him when he pulled her under? You mention that Alice might have had a premonition of dying at the hands of Jason, and I can see that, but what about his successful attack in the apartment simply being the second time he sought to avenge his mother's death, while the canoe scene was the first attempt.
      He's a link you might like to take a look at where the writer looks at it from both sides--dream sequence or real event. He even has a TH-cam clip from _Halloween,_ where he shows that the same kind of ambiguity shows up in other horror films, too.
      www.philipmeade.com/movies/the-friday-the-13th-dream-sequence/

    • @mariolopez3728
      @mariolopez3728 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Galantski I just saw the link that you provided and without a doubt it is an incredible written article where it talks about the ending scene being either a dream or if it actually happened. I was convinced 100% all this time that the end scene was a dream but after chatting with you and reading the article I'm now at only 60% convinced it was a dream. I'm sure that everyone who has seen Friday the 13th, some people might think the end scene was a dream and some might think it happened for real. I think that was the director's intention of leaving the ending as ambiguous so as to get people talking after the movie was over and after chatting with you and looking at both sides....you gotta admit....Sean Cunningham succeeded in doing just that.

    Well, here's a crowdpleaser! My favourite Fridays are 6 and 9 because they break the formula, this one is pretty lame except for Kevin Bacon, always entertaining to see big stars in embarrassing early horror roles. I always reckoned Jason is actually undead, we see the Necronomicon from the Evil Dead series in part 9 so I figure she used it to bring him back but he came back wrong and that drove her nuts.

    Sean S. Cunningham, whether he meant to or not, warped the slasher genre with Friday the 13th. After this film it was all about jumpscares and gore, before it was about atmosphere and dread. Carpenter even butchered Halloween II to make it more like Friday the 13th (for some reason, Halloween made more money than Friday the 13th so I don't get it). Halloween was how a slasher film should be, but no-one ever made a film like it again because slasher films were marketed exclusively to young people with short attention spans out for a quick thrill. That was not Halloween's audience, that was a different audience altogether.

      The execution is only the same in the sense it has some one not seen killing people an one survivor.But the style an themes are different as is the feel an tone.The theme of Halloween which itself takes from Black Christmas is about a girl who dosent focus on sex an represses herself then she has to deal with as man following her wanting to put a knife in her the original Halloween was never about the sister plot it was all a sexual metaphore. It wasnt Michaels story But Curtis.Carpenter took the first person view from Black Christmas himself as well as the killer stalking female angel.Halloween is a better film then Black Christmas but it just like how Friday took from it it took from Black Christmas which itself took from Psycho

    Don't know if it meets your criteria for the female protagonist killing the villain, but "I Spit On Your Grave" came out in 1978.

    Seriously, fuck PlatinumDunes remake!
    This original film is brilliant! Whenever a month falls on Friday The 13th, I "MAKE SURE" to watch this film everytime!
    I don't know why, but whenever I watch this film, it makes me wish I was there in the 80s! Props to Sean Cunningham, Tom Savini, the cast and everyone involved with the film! *

    I've never been a fan of this franchise. I think it's really overrated but it's fun to see your review. Hope you guys do the rest of the franchise like you did "Hellraiser" and "Halloween". It's gonna be awesome if you do.

      Daniel Orozco Sorry for any confusion. What I meant to say is Thursday is movie review and Friday is for gamin. That is why Gary and Ian released the review for Friday the 13th on a Thursday.
