In Alvin, Texas, I am not sure if it was hail or rain or both, but it was horizontal and loud against my east facing window. The wind was so loud too. I checked every weather app I have, NOTHING resembled what I was hearing. I prayed a lot that night.
Yesterday at my place sky was literally lit up for 2 hours continues. We lost one ceiling fan due to surge in current. This happens at least 10 times in a year. Once a tree was stuck by lighting and a big chunk was thrown 100 meters away and saw few dead birds lying below.

Once when my ex and daughter were driving to FL, lightening struck the ground next to their car on a highway in grid lock traffic. My daughter told me the grass caught on fire! My place was struck last year ago in the morning while it was still dark. It took out my PC, work phone, and modem. One of the ethernet cables lock clip was pushed loose but was still barely in the port. Surge protector was 2,700 Jules. It was so close it lit up my neighbors place like it was day light. I had my black out drapes closed and did not see it, but I felt the energy of it. It was sooooooo loud, my PC made a pop almost as loud! I literally jumped up from my chair and screamed like a little girl. The thunderstorm sounded far away, like at least 30 miles and I thought I was good. I don't think a surge protector of any number of Jules would have protected my equipment with that strike. I still get triggered in lightning storms.
