ARP, “it’s dangerous to be making assumptions…“, passerby, “you look like you’re gonna be good before you start”! Cheeky bit of self-deprecating edit humour there! 😂
Great tips! If you’re flexible with dates/ time spent away from home, I’d recommend pet sitting against accomodation. I’ve stayed in lovely places across Europe, sometimes for 6 weeks straight, and then busk around there. Can be just a long weekend too.
Should take Time into account. You see it differently when tou are single with no obligations. Having relationship and Kids is another story. Can not afford to busk in low income places anymore.
Equipment wise my cube street ex cost £500, my Roland fr-3x digital accordion cost £3500 I sometimes use an iPhone as an external midi module played my my accordion via a korg plug key add to that backpack, a £250 accordion case, spare battery packs and the value of my setup is close to £5000. But worth every penny.
Haha! That's awesome, I passed through there twice yesterday. If you saw me in the morning, I may very well have been talking to the camera! 😆 always happy to meet and take photos with folks that watch these videos! 😀 🙌
Hey Ben, it’s Jack here, what a pleasant surprise to meet you and Andre in Kingston today, so unexpected, but finally cool to bump into you in the real world as well. 🎉 a great chat and I look forward to see the next video this upcoming Monday (also to watch your two previous episodes). Let me know if you ever wanna have another guest appearance in a future video, more than happy to join in for that 🎩⏱🎭
@@AugustRadioProject great mate! I’m excited to watch the video! Kingston this week has been one of the bests for me so far. Fantastic that you were there on Thursday, thank you for that! I’ll see you next time 🕰️ I’ll also let you know when I’m in the area of Brighton !
How you can hold on to green Tortex pick long enough to wear it out, is beyond me. Yikes! I lose twenty a year. Lately I've been using the blue ones. They don't have square edges like the green. They're beveled. They are as good as the green for accuracy of picking, but sound a little better IMO. And when you hold them lightly, you get a lovely soft sound for quieter strummed passages.
Honestly, I’m not too sure either… not too long ago a fellow guitarist saw me out busking and must have caught site of the pick because he insisted o had one of his! 🤣 I’ll have to check out the blues… I appreciate the recommendation! 😃🙌🏻
@@NikosKatsikanis I have one from B&Q, best to go with one that’s pretty robust that has a good set of wheels! 😊 all the buses and trains allow it that I’ve been on! 😃🙌🏻
Hello Ben, well i am so sorry ive been out of commission recently ! My computer had big issues, but now fixed ! Your channel is going forward in leaps and bounds, reward for all your hard work and love of fun and music ! That green plekky was a sight for sore eyes, how long have you had that one, craaaazy !! lolzzz
Good to have you back Brian! A break from the computer isn’t such a bad thing! 😃🙌🏻 the green plectrum is getting pretty serious 🤣 perhaps time for a new one! Appreciate the support as always!
I haven't actually tried yet with the phone! I'm planning on a whole video about livestreaming soon so I will be sure to let you know in that! 🙌 it definitely works with the laptop! 😀
Hi... Another great video ..do you have public liability insurance ? I was stopped from busking yesterday coz i didnt have the relevent paperwork perhaps a subject you could discuss..also the tap and pay method for card payment how does anyone go about setting this up .do you go o to yr bank to get the machine .?.thanks
Hey! Yes I do have Public Liability, it's a good idea to get it as a fair few gigs/events ask you to have it as a performer. You can get it as part of a Musicians Union membership! 😀 I can definitely do a more in-focus video on it too, thank you for the idea! 🙌 The card reader is called a Zettle and you buy them online, all the set up is done via an app once you get it 😊
I'm surprised how cheap some of your journeys are, but It's still pretty expensive in the grand scheme of things. You can travel across the country for the cost of your £13 in some countries. It's often cheaper to fly from Edinburgh to London or whatever than take the train. Imagine if we had nationalised and subsidised trains and it was super cheap or even free, and also how great that would be for the environment getting people out of cars and onto public transport. Oh well, one can dream.
It is true when comparing with other countries. Some of my German and Austrian friends tell me of tickets you can get that allow you to travel anywhere for a whole year that aren’t much at all! And planes being cheaper is a wild one eh! 🙈 I’ll have to do a ‘taking the cheapest plane’ video at some point! 😃🙌🏻
It's hard to say. I know folks who play guitar during the summer months and then will go for just vocals in the winter to save their fingers from freezing and I've never heard them mention a difference in donations! I guess it's all about how comfortable you feel and how you perform! 😀
I do a lot of variation with the strumming! I call it ‘percussive strumming’ because most of the time my strumming is mimicking a drum beat! - tutorial coming soon 👀😃🙌🏻
What is not expensive these days? I've had to pipe down a bit to a lightweight Enya smart guitar, extrememly small Spark go amp and very lightweight. I dont use a mic. This is better for me with arthritis and back pain. I only play for an hour a time now due to my health. Music is my life though, life would not be worth living without music, such good medicine for well being. Absoluetly right about moving on and also write your own songs too and mix it with covers. That way people get to hear something different and not the same stuff all the time.

Another awesome and interesting video! I'm only left with one question, do you have to pay taxes on the money you earn on the street?
Yep! Busking donations count as taxable income! 🙌🏻 I’ll do a proper tax video at some point! 😃

Do you think guitar vs karaoke busking for singers will affect how much money you'll make?
It's hard to say. I know folks who play guitar during the summer months and then will go for just vocals in the winter to save their fingers from freezing and I've never heard them mention a difference in donations! I guess it's all about how comfortable you feel and how you perform! 😀
Hi Ben have you ever busked anywhere in Europe ?
So far, as ARP, I've only busked in Cologne! Definitely want to head out a do a lot more on the mainland though! 😀 🙌
Curious, off the main subject. Noticing how fast you strum per song. Are you strumming lots of 16th note rythum songs..
I do a lot of variation with the strumming! I call it ‘percussive strumming’ because most of the time my strumming is mimicking a drum beat! - tutorial coming soon 👀😃🙌🏻
