5*5 - I'm a genius (or you are a genius teacher)! "Fingers crossed" in Polish - "I hold my thumbs" (or: hold your thumbs for me) There are other phrases that are similar in Polish and in English
100% Rossi here! 🖐 I like all these expressions so much and I'm going to use them easily because they all exist, more or less identical in the literal translation, even in my language. At the end of the day (in my region we often use to say "alla fine della fiera" = "at the end of the fair") we are not idiomatically (and culturally?) so different. Cheers Tom! 🌟 (our guiding star)
In Ukraine we say different phrases instead of fingers crossed depending on the situation. If we want to wish good luck before some important event we say "Щасти" or "Удачі" which actually means "Good luck". If we are in the same situation as in the test we would say something like "Дай Бог" which means "Let God hear your wish".
I loved this video, thanks ever so much mate! In Italian we cross the fingers as well! We don't say "at the end of the day" though, we would say "at the end of everything" instead. I adore all the British expressions without an exact equivalent in my language, like "at the end of the day"! "Take care" is another one, so Take care Tom! Cheers
In German we "press / squeeze our thumbs" instead of crossing the fingers. So we say "Daumen drücken" or "ich drück dir die Daumen", and when we see the person we can make a gesture of a fist with the thumb pressed onto it.
Hi Tom! Can you also say "Thanks just the same"? In Italy we say "Incrociamo le dita"= let's cross fingers, sometimes adding the gesture 😉 Loved the quiz!
Actually we do keep/hold our thumbs as someone told before in the comments. So we don't cross our fingers, we literally hold our thumbs like that - ✊✊✊ (Czechia)
I like it so much, & I’ll write examples with it: 1- Is it fine staying at home? Her: Yes, don’t worry it’s all good. 2-At the end of the day, you need to choose your own way to apologize to her. 3- I’m flying a lot those days at home. Him: Hahaha that’s a good one. 4- Do you like my idea? -it’s good but let’s see. 5-Plz join us, -I’d love to but you know what, I working in my project.
I prefer "I'm alright. Thanks!" Tell people that you are okay, but you're thankful! I can use this to answer people in many occasions! Examples: A. I'm ALRIGHT with your decisions. THANKS for your concern! B. I'm feeling ALRIGHT. Its very nice of you to check up on me. THANKS! C.🎵 I'm ALRIGHT with that. THANKS to you!
"È quello che è" (it is what it is) is used in Italy with the same meaning but we also say it to express a negative statement about a person who thinks he would be able to do something out of his skills
Hi Tom! As for the expression 'fingers crossed' - in Polish we say 'keep thumbs'. For example 'I'm keeping my thumbs for you to pass the exam'. If my translation is not correct, please amend.
Great work tom!!! I want to ask you a question. What do you think about reviewing a voice note of "your viewers" attempt of a british accent from what we've learnt from you, on any social media handle and then just briefly send us a message pointing out the mistakes. I know its a long shot but it would really help.
hi, Tom, thanks for teaching! I would like to know if I use "take care" to my sameage friends, Is it make them feel serious? because, I seldom hear someone use take care to me.
In Nepal 1) "Thikai cha " (it is fine, literally), "Kehi chaina" (no problem, but lit. its nothing there) 2) "je vaye pani" (whatever happens) 3) "Thikai cha " (it is fine, literally), "Kehi chaina" (no problem, but lit. its nothing there) 4) "herum / herum k huncha? (let's see/lets see what happens) 5) no such terms or norms like that we say finger crossed 6) "Thikai cha " (it is fine, literally), "Kehi chaina" (no problem, but lit. its nothing there) 7) "Ramrari janus" (lit. Go nicely) 8) Sahi (correct!!) 9) Hoina ta (lit. isn't it?) 10) Miley samma (I will try)
please, Could you prepare something related to personal qualities? Such as modest , humble, Passionate, Motivated , Hardworking , Focus, Driven, belligerent, self-initiative, confident.

You are amazing. You always bring me light in English.
This video was super useful for me and I think it's also for all here. Excellent job, Tom!
Glad you enjoyed it mate
in PL we don't cross our fingers - we "keep/hold our thumbs" and it concerns the expression and so the gesture (thumb inside the fist).
I got 5/5 thanks for the quick quiz I loved it! keep on ^^
Good job Heidi!
"We cross fingers" (on croise les doigts) here in France ! Thanks a lot !! I needed a short list of common phrases to teach ! :)

In Italy we say "Incrociamo le dita"= let's cross fingers, sometimes adding the gesture 😉
Loved the quiz!
and we also say "vediamo" or "vedremo", which is the same as let's see
I guess by "thanks just the same" you mean "grazie lo stesso" but you can't say that in English. It would make no sense.
Tommaso Giusto in english that would be "thank you anyway"
@@silvia76955 Yes you can say that
Actually we do keep/hold our thumbs as someone told before in the comments. So we don't cross our fingers, we literally hold our thumbs like that - ✊✊✊
(Czechia)
Bulgaria - the same. The phrase is : " I'm holding my thumbs for you " :)
Same here. (Poland)

That’s very kind Renzo, thank you 🙏🏻
We use fingers crossed in French also to wish luck (je croise les doigts)
Fingers crossed is known in Germany as "I press you my thumbs". don't know why people say that but yeaah:D
As usual ❤️❤️ thank you dear teacher!
That's a good one! Thanks a million Tom!
I'm a native speaker but whenever my parents said "let's see", it ended up as a no in 99% of cases!
Lava Yuki lol
In Italian we use “vediamo” (literally translated) with the same result.
That's a great video. Thanks for this one.
I got 5/5. It's super easy.

Speaking about "It is what it is", Ukrainians usually say something like "Маємо те, що маємо" ("We have what we have")
Wow! Many of them are exactly the same in Italian!
Really? That’s v helpful
@@EatSleepDreamEnglish Absolutely!
I got all of them right ... there is an expression I believe with "house" ? "Full house" or "whole house" or "all house in" ? It can't quite remember.
I love your video ....thank you so much... I miss you and your sister as well.
Tom your parents tricked you... they were saying no;)

THX BRO

In Ukraine we used to say: " I will keep my fists (in diminutive) for you" instead fingers crossed. :)
Hehe nice!
All right 💘
Instead of “fingers crossed” we say something like “I hold my fingers for you”. :) And I’m from Czech Republic.
Tom could you please tell me what does Plumstead and Wandsworth mean please I wrote those words in the Uk News
Whatever - huge variety of meanings, is commonly used all over the place. By the way, all over the place is also a good one.
Hi! Can someone explain what's the differences between "at the end of the day" and "in the end of the day" ? Thank you😊
We also say take care in sri lanka
I appreciate it.
We use the same phrases in the USA.
In Colombia, we use the expression "fingers crossed" and we say, "Cruza los dedos."
is "let's see" similar or even the same to "let's play it by ear"?
4/5 score.. Yeaahh ... The second one was a bit difficult one..😁
Fingers crossed in Spanish is "estoy cruzando los dedos" or "dedos cruzados"
Hi Tom amazing expressions!! I've finished final exams, Fingers crossed! 👍🤣
Fingers crossed 🤞🏽
we say "let's see" in Arabic also ^^
please, Could you prepare something related to personal qualities?
Such as modest , humble, Passionate, Motivated , Hardworking , Focus, Driven, belligerent, self-initiative, confident.
When it comes to parents-children negotiations "Let's see" is just a euphemistic way of saying "no f**in way":):)
Pressing thumbs
All correct :))
