Extra: The Corinth Canal. Prices, procedure, experience

For one and a half years, the Corinth Canal was closed. After rockfalls, the work took longer than expected. Again and again, the opening was promised and then postponed. Since the beginning of July, however, pleasure boats can pass through again. How the procedure works and what the fun costs, we have put together in this info video.

Super that you made it. We sailed 2020 from west to east which from my point of view has many advantages. As the wind blows mostly from west, the sailing in the Golf of Corinth is much easier. Regarding the waiting we did the following, we contacted the canal authority app. 2 sm in front of the entrance and adopted the speed, so we didn‘t had to wait at all. As mentioned in the video the direction of boats that can pass changes every 40-50 minutes. We did the payment online as it was pandemic time. But had to stop at the authority to show the boat documents.

Thank you guys for visiting our country, I hope you had a great time here. By the way canal's width is 25meters and braemar ship holds the record(22,5m width, 195m length) as the largest ship has ever crossed the canal. Canal's depth is 8m, appart from the places of the 2 yellow-black colored bridges (at the entrance and at the exit of the canal). The depth there is 12 meters and these 2 bridges are the only 2 in the world that sink at that depth, so that the ships can cross the canal. 😜

How long waiting time you had before you could enter the canal?

Just a few minutes. But if there are lots of boats, it might take longer. Contact the tower on Vhf as soon as you arrive and they will let you know
