    Why are there so many people using the train? A bus would literary be 5x faster! And why does it stop there? That's so weird.

    • @benolifts
      @benolifts  2 ปีที่แล้ว +13

      Most of the people on the train are people with not much money who live in the villages and had come to Lviv for the day.

      The train seems to be full so they could at least make it faster and install lighting at the stations.

    When you go back to Ukraine would you think about going on an old Soviet aeroplane? There are some An-24 and Yak-40 still operated by a company called Motor Sich.

    Can you do a BENO travel guide to Ukraine?

    • @benolifts
      @benolifts  2 ปีที่แล้ว +11

      I should make a video on that.
      The positives of Ukraine...
      1. Loads of interesting things to see
      2. Loads of old transportation to ride
      3. A lot of the country has not changed much from Soviet times. You can experience what Soviet Russia was like.
      4. It is very cheap.
      5. There is not much vidulatntiness.
      The negatives of Ukraine...
      1. Some of the transport is very slow.
      2. There is very limited social security. Hospitals are small and underfunded. There are loads of homeless 70 year old ladies sleeping rough. It is painful to see.
      3. Don't become ill in Ukraine. People will not come to your help when you are in need. I have seen people lying in the snow in Kharkiv in minus temperatures. I don't know if they were dead or alive. People would step over them to get past.

    • @TheDragonFire123
      @TheDragonFire123 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Trains without guards/conductors aren't particularly rare, if the train is Driver Only Operation (DOO). Then again, this does not apply to this specific example.

    • @benolifts
      @benolifts  2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      The train has...
      1 driver
      1 lookout
      1 engineer
      2 ticket inspectors
      I know this as I was watching their movements to find the right moment to surf the train. This video will be on my new youtube channel.
      It is interesting that for a very poor train service they have a lot of staff. Wages are low over there, so the cost of human labor is cheap.

    • @subwayexpress465
      @subwayexpress465 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@benolifts What are the roles of the different staff? I don't know why they would need a lookout and an engineer.

    • @benolifts
      @benolifts  2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Trains in Ukraine always have a driver and a lookout. I think the reason is so if there are two people in the cab it reduces human error. I was surprised that there is also an engineer. The engineers job is to keep the engine running correctly, which seems unnecessary, but the train is from the 50s or 60s. When I was shining my torch out the window to try and improve the video footage, the engineer came out the rear cab to see what was causing the light. Later when I surfed this train the engineer and two ticket inspectors were in the rear cab. I kept low down on the back of the train and they didn't see me.

    • @benolifts
      @benolifts  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I should have done another one of these train rides but on an ER2. The problem is that the timetable is poor and trains don't run when you need them. Also these train rides take up a lot of time, and as day to day things in general seem to take longer than in England, it is harder to get as much done in Ukraine within the time you are there.
