(I was in a 9-flight U S. trip 4/18-23/2021. All flights were packed to the gunwales and the airports very busy. DFW's numbers now exceed pre-COVID! We're coming back with a vengeance!)
My very first flight was with Air Transat from LGW to Toronto on a Lockheed L1011 back in 1997, all those years ago. Only difference is we flew from Gatwick South terminal. I thoroughly enjoyed this, great video.🙂👍👍✈️
I flew with Air Transat in 2011 and had a similar experience aboard one of their A-330's. Friendly staff, food was good, enough leg room (I'm fairly tall). I'll fly with them again when time comes.
This new A321N-ER from Air Transat is like an entirely new product. Its fresh, clean and looks very appealing, seat pitch is generous for a 7 hour flight from the UK. Not so sure about longer flights, Athens/Toronto is almost 11 hours. Felix, you and David keep pulling magic from your aviation bag, thanks so much.
@@semsemeini7905The 707/120B was 147 feet long and carried 110 passenger's 6 abreast in 2 classes, A321N is shorter at 146 feet but they pack in 199 passengers 6 abreast in 2 classes, seat pitch is 31 inches in economy/coach. The 707 economy seat had about 38 inches of leg room so you could stretch out, relax and really enjoy the experience. If your over 5`10 and doing a 10 hour flight, its not going to be fun, the true cost of adding 89 more seats to a smaller aircraft. You could of course pay for a *Premium extra leg room seat* - usually an emergency exit row, up front or bulk head seat, extra $450 for return flight.
We did transatlantic on Air Transat not long ago. While it was surreal to be crossing the pond on a single-aisle jet, the trip was every bit as enjoyable as yours and we would fly TS again.
Yes there are advantages with a twin isle, but when will the automatic haters realise that more than 90% of the journey is in your seat. I for one prefer the wider seats on the A320 series to the narrower 737, but give me an extra 2 inches of legroom any day! The overall in-flight experience is affected more by the quality of your seat and amount of personal space, coupled with the food and refreshments available or provided, along with the quality of service the cabin crew give - not the number of isles!
@Harold Yeoh the 787 was actually designed as a 2-4-2 but airlines weren't happy so it was changed to a 3-3-3 layout and has some of the narrowest seats of ANY commercial aircraft. Not fun on the Vancouver to Hong Kong route!
I went to Canada using Air Transat. It was my first long haul trip. Unfortunately I was so disappointed that it became my least favourite airline. I learned from that bad experience when it comes to choosing airlines. (That was over a decade ago...) My next long haul was a trip to Hong Kong and onwards to Japan. I chosen Cathay Pacific. It turned out to be the best airline thus made my holiday the best experience. I decided to watch this video to see if Air Transat has changed and to my surprised, it looked like it has changed a lot. I may use Air Transat again for future trip to Canada. Thanks for sharing your experience.
Nice trip report! I haven’t flown Air Transat in years.. I was surprised to see how much leg room you had and how nice the meals looked. Good stuff. Love the A321LR’s.
I honestly don't understand why people are so negative about narrowbodies going trans-atlantic. The 707 and DC-8 were narrowbodies. Increased chances of getting a window or aisle seat compared to a wide-body, and (at least in economy) pretty much the same pitch. The argument for widebodies only makes sense for those flying business and/or first class.
Howdy, awesome trip report as always and that seemed like a great flight! For non Av-Geeks, I don’t think there would be too big of a difference between an A321 and an A330 in Economy, it’s business class where you can really see the difference! Also, that pilot really buttered that landing, or Felix has super steady hands!😸
My last trans Atlantic narrow body flight was on a TWA 707 from JFK-ZRH 7/1974. My two sisters and mother sat about 3 rows behind FC on the left hand side of the aircraft.
I think overall with its extended range, comfortable interior, and some of the widest economy seats in the sky the A321LR NEO is really hard to beat in any category, even against the twin aisles!!! I know I would choose an A321 over a B787 any day!
@@Qatari2007 I guess I didn’t specify. I apologize. I meant the duty free on the aircraft. As you were in flight. Everything is done with credit card now on most major carriers.
Enjoyed the trip report, but would like to remind you we've been crossing the Atlantic on narrow-body aircraft for years, first with DC-3/C-47's, then Lockheed Constellations and DC-7's, and finally with 707 and DC-8 jets.
Air Transat, now that’s a name I haven’t heard in awhile! I mainly remember this airline for the a330 that had the fuel leak over Portugal. It’s great to see this airline still around and doing well today! I wouldn’t mind flying on Air Transat someday. Great trip report as always:)
The cabin layout and not the number of aisles is what makes the difference. You can cram a lot of people into a wide-body aircraft as easily as you can a narrow-body aircraft. Granted, a wide-body makes it possible to have a more robust premium economy section (with seats equivalent to US domestic First Class/Euro Business class), but there's a lot an airline can do with seating layout and service to make a long flight in a narrow-body aircraft more pleasant, or at least tolerable.
I hade last year booked a trip to Zagreb Split Croatia with Air Transat but it was canceled so can’t wait to book again my 5 year old boy he loves it . Nice job 👍

I have traveled the Gatwick to Calgary route numerous times and found Air Transat to be a great airline.
