I Rode a few International S series school buses when i was a kid growing up in the 1990s one of the ones i rode for the most part of my childhood to and from school was a manual transmission blue bird international S series 1800 bus with a green ceiling

    Well, they're pretty old units but the first one certainly looked nice and healthy, no nasty smoke or anything when it was going down the road so that suggests it's certainly been very well maintained. The first truck with the big auger and crane for installing poles is likely to have been worked the hardest so the fact it's running so well is a very good sign that it has all been kept in top condition so it should be plenty suitable for your building project. The bucket truck won't have been worked anything like as hard and it looks like that one was set up for stringing power and phone cables, the section on the back is a cable spool, they run the cable off the big spools, up to the cherry picker bucket and then on to the insulators on the top of the poles...

    Either my memory is fading, (probably), but I don’t remember seeing this one.
    DT466....same as the semi tractor I drove locally for an unnamed Trucking company just 3 blocks from where you got these utility trucks.
    I really liked that IH semi I was assigned, even more when it was being used by someone else for a year and I had to drive a cabover IH. When I got it back after I hooked a set of doubles it died on I-205 in Oregon City. The other driver had dropped a rubber tarp strap in the fuel tank. I sure was glad I pulled over when I did before going onto the bridge over the Willamette River and causing a huge backup of traffic..

    These rigs bring back some BAD memories for me. I once worked putting up pole barns and steel buildings and my boss had one of these that he used for raising the trusses and we would have to climb out on those trusses while there were being "steadied" by the crane to put the purlins on and nail them together...kinda spooky when the "crane" always had leaks so the they tended to drift down, while our boss was yelling at us to hurry up cause he couldn't hold it... Very encouraging when you are working in the cold and 20-30 feet up in the air...

    • @ClassicTruckRescue
      @ClassicTruckRescue  6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Fortunately the crane doesn't leak down. Buck truck leaks slowly, but not enough to make it scary. Thanks Fer Watchin'. -Rick

    Rick, looks like the bucket & line pole trucks are going too be a valuable asset in the construction of you guys new shop. Look as though the bucket truck is 4wd and is or was setup with a winch, hydraulic or PTO driven I cannot tell. The winch on the pole truck must be hydraulic being 2wd... seemingly at any rate. Heck once you get your shop up... who knows maybe Rick & Lance might get some side work too. I can see Rick making a rope swing with the bucket truck. LOL good times.

    Good luck with utility trucks. You are entering a world of puzzle but if you get em fully working they will be really handy for the task. Have you got the use of a lazer level. They make setting out height levels over distances much simpler than using a water level.

    my dairy farm neighbor bought a big bucket truck from the power company it's got hydraulic stabilizers and a hydraulic pole saw plugs into couplers in the bucket. you could make money with this. around here tree trimmers make $1000 per/tree. but i live in the midwest so there's summer storms & ice storms in winter. my farm the 48x150 pole shed went up 1986 cost $27k. cement was $45/yd back then. one worker fell off a 12' high truss broke his leg. the contractor never finished the doors, door hardware and non of the wiring. my brother & i did it with ladders. not easy stringing all that 12-2 copper. just recently i replaced all the door trolleys & fiberglass roof skylight panels. i had to replace all the 20 amp circuit breakers with 30 amp to run the chop saw & air compressor anywhere in the building instead of just by the service panel. the concrete has cracked in 1 spot and settled about 1 ft because the contractor had dozed over the old hog barn and buried it right under the new pole shed footing.... good luck. take your time. be safe. do not get broken bones.

    Ok, Rick, I wish I was able to come out there to teach you how to use the line truck and bucket truck safely!!! If you have not looked yet I have and there are some videos on TH-cam that should help you some. Let me say this after 39 years as a Lineman for the power company here, DO NOT just hope up there and start yanking levers or anything else. Both of those trucks can get you hurt or killed if you have no clue on what you are doing. If you know anyone who works for the power company there or phone company ask them to help you or teach you. Even if you have to pay them, trust me it will be worth it. Take Care and God Bless!!!

    had same boom truck crane years ago. Had 24 inch auger drill and 50 ft boom. Did alot of poles and barns.G grapple only made to steady pole not lift.
    It is called a "digger Derrick"
    Second truck a " bucket truck" not for heavy lifting.
