    I like that San Martin are starting to use enamel dials for that glossier look. Unfortunately the black enamel always seems to be paired with gilt. I like that look sometimes but not always. Anyway the blue enamel dial is really good because it is really dark and in dim light it looks black, but get some bright light on it and it's a nice navy blue. I have also tried out the green enamel dial and while nice, it does look a bit "murky" green. I have owned Tudor, Rolex, Omega, JLC, Breitling and some others, but starting to prefer the cheaper San Martin and Baltany pieces now. Don't have to baby them. The clasp is good enough - especially the newer on the fly adjustable one. The only thing I like more on the Tudor is that the bracelet felt "oil dampened". They must put some kind of fluid or something in the links. Although I pull a Tudor out i hadn't worn in months and had kind of gummed up, but it soon loosened up again.

    Omg I just received this watch (Tudor) 2 days ago, i bought it second hand nearly mint conditions for 2k and I now understand the meaning of luxury watch, it is completely another planet, another feeling, another wearability, I am in Love with my BB36 and It is definitively worth the money. The side case of the San Martin has the oyster perpetual shape which I like more but you cannot be disappointed with the Tudor if you try it on.

    Great points on both and iam sure if I could see the tudor in person the little nuances would be very present and have much gravity but... I actually lean toward the design cues of the SM. I just ordered the dark blue with the sw200 mvnt for the 11/11 sale. Really looking forward to this piece. Thanks for the comparison and close ups.

    Weirdly, despite the San Martin being an extra 1mm in size, in most shots the Tudor actually looks bigger to my eye. I think it's a combination of two things: Not having the domed crystal distorting the sides means that you see more of the dial on the Tudor, plus the 19mm lug width makes the watch head appear slightly wider than the straighter lines of the SM.

    I have a lot of Chinese watches Inc SanMartin but sadly they nowhere close to each other. The SanMartin fan boys are Delusional. The quality of the Tudor is in the details. As you point out the ceramic ball bearings etc are the small details that make the difference. The San Martin is a fantastic watch for the money. I have it and love it.

    I have the BB GMT on a leather strap, and yeah - that clasp is SOOOO satisfying to operate! My only beef with the leather one is that it threads in the "wrong" way - long side from the top - and it takes some getting used to. But what it does is allow the clasp to face you right-side up, looking like the Tudor logo on the shield. Very cool. Cheers!

    Domed sapphire is actually way more expensive to make than the cheap version that Tudor have.

  • @scottparis6355
    @scottparis6355 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    Interesting comparison. Thanks.
    Funny that the San Martin isn't closer to the Tudor. None of the differences that you point out would be particularly difficult or expensive for San Martin to copy. They have lots of watches with flat sapphire crystals. They have watches with enameled dials, although that would cost a little extra . (But hardly $2500.)
    The San Martin clasp is an off-the-shelf component that they use on lots of their watches. It doesn't match the Tudor's, of course, but is way better than, for instance, the ones that Seiko uses on $800 models.
    The division that makes San Martin cases also makes cases for relatively high-end European manufacturers.
    I've handled a lot of "luxury" watches from Tudor, Longines, Omega, etc, etc. Of course they are very very nice, with careful attention to details. And the labor cost in the EU is much higher than in China. Still I have a hard time believing that there's really 2 or 3 thousand dollars worth of added value in the luxury watches. $2000 would represent 20 hours of work at $100 an hour. Do they really spend 20 extra hours working on each watch? Half a week???
    As you say, they're worth the money as long as someone is willing to pay the money.

  • @H0kram

    The stark contrast of white against the glossy black looks better, so the Tudor wins in that department. I don't know why chinese brands usually insist on adding some kind of other color or a loghter shade of black, to that perfect match.
    I said no to a 1800-2000 dollars one right before it jumped, lol. Oh well.

  • @jims4539

    Take the SM and add $500 materials. Better movement & better clasp. Dial color, lume color and crystal are all production decisions not additional costs. Now the SM is $800 still far below the $3,000 for the BB36. I have luxury watches that exceed the Tudor in price but the Chinese watches have come a long way for just 5 years ago, a long way.
