Houston played exceptional defense, they brought pressure and bottled up the short pass game. They have a strong defensive line, decent DBs and shut Miami's offense off like a faucet. This is exactly the kind of defense that Miami needs to beat but they must be much more physical on the line of scrimmage and establish the run.
Defenses are guarding areas where Miami tends to throw. Basically taking that away. No adjustments besides check down and bubble screens. Suspect there may be larger issues with consistently throwing other passes. Office looks hugely limited
@dustinstella6656 Usually, Tua has enough arm strength to make most throws on most levels of the field, but this year his arm looks weaker. It's true Tua lacks elite arm strength and is not a guy who can make late throws on deep outs or throw a deep ball late.
@dustinstella6656 Also, defenses are playing a lot of two-deep safeties/2 high shells to take away the deep ball/vertical game, whether they are playing Cover 2 man, Cover 6, or Cover 4, and even Cover 3/Tampa Robber. You have to run the ball effectively in order to get them out of the two high shell, and get them to commit a safety in the box, forcing the defense into single high, and we could not do that vs HOU. Mahomes (a big arm QB) and the Chiefs offense had to rely on dink and dunk, underneath plays and screens because of the amount of two high looks they were facing and the Chiefs really stopped being one of the most explosive offenses under Andy Reid. That's football.
Notice how Buffalo plays us, they give us an illusion sidelines and deep ball is open / once ball gets snapped they realign. Why do they do that easy answer they know Tua not that guy. He looks for his scripted reads rather than read the field so teams like Buff Ravens Texans 49ers know that. You can’t do that to a Pat or JA because those guys actually read and hit guys
@@iafigueroa91 Allen faces 2 high all the time as well but he can make plays off-structure and take advantage of breakdowns. That's where his big plays come from. Tua can't create and he's a spot thrower. So yeah, he can get the ball down the field with timing but safeties don't have to bail back further than they already are until the deep receiver gets to a certain spot. Doesn't open up the underneath as much as the two-high look should. Plus, as you said, the deep outs just aren't there.
This video has given me the inspiration and drive I need to get back into my own channel again. I lost a lot of faith and desire. But you’ve always been so consistent. It inspires me to want to do the same!
I always watch your film break downs Doug your one of the reasons I know so much about this team along with my dad who watched Dan the man Marino!keep up the great work Doug!
Yes, look at the 49ers as well. He has to put in the wrinkles and spread these guys out sometimes. Receivers have to get different types of directional routes that doesn't get them hurt
How can you put in wrinkles or call plays if your line sucks it all starts with the gm and building the trenches macdaniel and tua can’t do thier jobs properly if Tua has to scramble or run around every play and the coach can call different run plays when none work cus both guards cannot block I understand they have to try and make it work but when number 74 is getting called for penlities every other play aka Liam and is getting pushed around like a rag doll every play you no you have a problem
Thank you Doug. Your attitude is inspirational and I forget that you read the comments and they can be pretty brutal. I stopped watching the games but i still enjoy your channel.
23:00 we had 7 guys blocking 4. On top of that 2 of those routes were screens behind the line. We had one guy running a route into 7 defenders... Mike McDaniel genius?
When you have a shit O-line with terrible run blocking and are down one of your star WRs, their D isn't pressured to make radical adjustments. 4 in the box is enough to put pressure while keeping the remainder of the field locked down. You can be a football savant, but it doesn't mean shit if you don't have the front line personnel for it.
Teams have definitely figured out our starting Guards. They currently rank 88th and 106th. Everyone in the world except for Chris Grier new we needed guard help and he just laughed at the questions in the preseason.
Doug, let me help you out. I’ve been watching football for 50 years. You could come up with all kinds of schemes and trick plays with Finesse but if you can’t match up against your opponent physically, ultimately you will lose the game. Then, if you can match up physically, you have to run the ball and on defense stop the run. Ultimately this has not changed in years. Our GM built this team playing chess and finesse. that’s why we are fun to watch against bad teams and our heartbreak against the physical ones. Houston is not a good team, but they were physical. So when Mike McDaniel runs out of his magic ultimately we have to go back to basics and play Smash Mouth until defenses. Adjust to that.
I like these breakdowns showing OL lowlights. It brings attention to why the offense doesn’t have success more than why Tua and receivers did wrong. It always starts with the OL play. These would even show why running game fails. But it would be a long video. So much material.
@Doug Great analysis at 4:41 if you freeze it there and if Liam actually picks up that block, you'll see at the top Waddle has his man beat hand in the air. No way safety gets over in time with his speed that is a TD!!!!!!!!
Stop it at 4.41, stop it exactly at 4.41, yes Waddles arm is just going up. If you look at Tua, he is already moving and handing a stiff arm to a defender. At 4.42 both players are free but my guess and it's only a guess is that he [Tua] can't see him while running for his life. At 4.43 to 44 i think he can see him but while running and feet not set he decides to keep running.
Looking at the first interception. If Hill runs the route McDaniel said he was supposed to, the safety probably blows him up. You've seen the defense playing to take away your strength, why scheme/run a play that risks putting your receiver in danger?
Exactly because those are the only real plays and play action you can run when you have no time in poket and no blocking to run every one knows this cus our oline is ass
Doug, I quit this team that doesn't mean I quit your channel. This is one of the few things that bring me enjoyment out of being a dolphins fan. Just keep up the great work and I'll be here at 100,000 subscribers. The mistakes that this offense makes are just inexcusable.
You say you quit the Dolphins but later on in your post you say that you're a Dolphins fan 🤣....That sh*t is goofy....I've been a Dolphins fan since the 80s and never said I've quit being a fan of the team...Through good and bad times I've stuck by them.. I'm a Dolphins fan till the casket drops.
I watched Miracle last night. Watched behind the scenes and a podcast with Jim Craig talking about Coach Herb Brooks. absolutely brutal, this team is not built the right way and not well coached at all and after last season mike got exposed big time, defenses know exactly whats going to happen
at 20:55 tua had Cracraft for the first down. That is him looking at Jonnu when he should have been reading the field. The read was Cracraft all day! Corner was 7 yards off the ball!
No thank you Doug. Normally this time of year I would be depressed about being a dolphins fan. But thanks to your channel we all start looking towards next year together instead.
Every NFL qb misses those deep ball throws short from time to time. 50/50 ball with like 70% chance for DPI if the WR stops and comes back to the ball a little earlier.
Doug,we love you man! Just can’t for the life of me understand how we can always prove the haters right! I’m still a Phinfan but would like to win in December! Same issues Oline, QB play and tackling
Hopefully the new head coach opts to keep Weaver. He’s had a few ups and downs but has insane potential with some continuity and better depth on this defense
The NFL put a rule change in effect just before the beginning of the season, which farked an entire offseason of play design and messed with the older plays as well. The motions that the Dolphins were using was reduced. Nothing about the Tush Push. Just to Fark teams with significant motion in their plays. So - we have to change the way the offense was designed and how we play. Nothing more than that.
at 26:15 Tua panicked! it was a double move by Reek and he didn't stay on the read long enough. Sit in there and throw a spot throw to the sideline out of bounds for a TD to Reek.
It won’t change unless Ross does something about our gm. McDaniel should be coaching for his job. Teams have figured out our scheme and our o-line is terrible
Easier said than done. Tua is a good QB and is very good at running this offense. It's gonna be hard to replace Tua to run this offense unless Dolphins clean house and bring in a new OC and GM.
This is the product of Spot Throwing. He's not actually reading the defense. When spot throwing works, he looks like a top rated QB. When it doesn't work he looks below average. When it matters the most he looks below average more because competent defense's aren't going to be anxious when they know that you're spot throwing. They can't make adjustments because Tua isn't reading defenses either because he doesn't have the ability to which is a huge problem or the offensive playbook just simply doesn't have a plan B. It was all fun and games when they're running up the score on unorganized defenses but there's too many excuses being made when they face reality against a good defense. There's a reason why the Dolphins haven't won a playoff game in 25 years. Calling people haters and clowns for criticizing this team and this quarterback is ridiculous. Our fans look like the real clowns for all the excuses we make every year. Taking accountability is a huge issue with this orginization and fan base. It's getting really exhausting.
I’ve noticed this year that Tyreek is rounding out routes and being out of position. I understand that he isn’t know for being the best route runner but we are paying him to be and he’s relying on his speed (which he’s lot a step). Bad qb decisions, bad line play and depths, bad coaching with adjustments and clock management, penalties, and wide receivers are not running crisp routes. But these are the players and coaches we paid in the offseason
Grier has not done his job for far too long. He keeps looking for the "diamond in the rough" on the Oline and not drafting or signing guys with the clear skills needed. We have one pro-bowl-caliber offensive lineman (Armstead) and he's about to retire and gets injured all the time. Why do the Dolphins continually put a patchwork Oline out there, hoping it will work week after week, year after year?
So I coach defensive backs in college. This defensive secondary has been stressing me out all year they just look lost every game. I love Javon holland he is so much better than he’s been playing
That defense is call an inverted 2 and they called it a lot that game. That one play where the safety doesn’t even move and gets an interception tells you just how predictable tua and the offense have got
Two high safety to take away the deep ball, but they also don’t even need to stack the box because the OL is SOOO BADD. The offense needs the run game to work which is averaging 3 yards a carry. I’d bet any amount of money anyone wants to give me for this bet that if we had better OL then the offense would look completely different.
I've been saying that defenses figured out the offense 2 years ago. They are jumping routes and not playing honest. This has lead to them losing late in the season.
My 40+year relationship with the Dolphins is the most abusive relationship I've ever been a part of. I always expect them to let me down and basically they've killed my love of football. I even had 5 years of season tickets and never missed a minute of even preseason games. I really wish I could move on, but I can't quit them. 😢
Watching the Houston their front four was knifing through the interior of the Dolphins o line….. this offense is predicated through the running game this is the shanahan offense it relies on a strong running game. Teams are dropping there safeties deep.
Ultimately. The big guys up front win football games and championships... The rest os dressing. We don't have those guys (defo oline). Rushing 3 getting to the qb. Unacceptable. We might look good from time to time. Long term. Obvious disappointment.
@27:40 , just a TERRIBLE read and throw. Mike McDaniel just HAS to say tyreek ran the wrong route because he CANT in NO WAY shape or form , bring down tuas confidence
Tua should never throw a ball over the middle again😂😂 look at hills 2 catches and look when TUA throws the ball. Hill is not open. It s called anticipation. Is Jonu smith open on the 4th down TD when TUA throws it? No. It’s called anticipation. When u have short midget WR’s who rely on speed and there is a small window WR has to be there.
Things we need two guards cut Liam trashcan cut Robert jones we need a running back similar to Derrick Henry cut mostert and Jeff Wilson Cut Chubb try bring back values Campbell one more year cut armstead and draft another tackle Incase of injury
I knew Doug wouldn’t get that last interception. Sure he should have led him more. But tyreek had both hands on the ball. You grab it and turn your body away from the defender. Not pull it straight down. That was on tyreek.
Proud to say that Mcdaniels isn't no Mcgenius. Defenses has figured out Mcdaniels offense. Not only that, mcclown doesn't know how to make in game adjustments. He's not ready to be headcoach. He soft and made the team soft as well. Pretty sure Mike vrabel would do alot better as head coach and leader for this team. Also drafting a legit qb who can take over when fragile tua is out. We all know he's one concussion away from playing football again. So dolphins need to draft a qb.
In 2023 with 11 wins it appeared that the Dolphins were on the way back to dominance in the AFC East. We could run the ball. Not only that but we were damn good at running the ball. But fast forward to now and you see that the Dolphins haven't built anything resembling a winning team. Im a life long Dolphins fan and losing each year is hard. I mean my family sees that I literally go into depression. Every fan I talk to about it says the same thing. Fire the GM. He is worse than the GMs Detroit had as they sat in last place.
you know doug.. watching your video if you really see good teams... and they are like covering everthing in the middle,,, great olines and running games exploit that and two teams do it best are the eagles and 49ers
When you basically run 4 plays, with different motions all game long......Not too hard to figure out. Hey look!!! They're throwing it behind the line of scrimmage AGAIN. Imagine that. When I watch a Dolphins game, then any other game, it's daylight and dark between the difference of offensive play. Totally different style than any other team, and I don't mean in a good way. Very predictable offense, from the offensive "genius".
In answer to your question, YES and NO. On 1st and 2nd down lots of cover 2 and cloud coverage, on third down lots of pressure with only 3 or 4 lineman means that we can't let plays develop. This is fixable with a............drum roll............a OL that is league average.
Definitely, yes. There was a play where Texans rush 2 against 5 Phins blockers and they still committed a holding penalty. Shouldn’t you call a run play? Can you pass successfully with 9 pass defenders with 2 rushers? It seems their OL consists of big, slow, unathletic, lineman trying to block leaner, faster D lineman that can easily avoid the blocks. How many times have you seen defenders make tackles unblocked? Yes Tua had a bad game but maybe the pressure of carrying the team in spite of all the things working against him finally caused him to crack. On the TD play to Jonnu, you said that’s the Tua we need. Correction, that’s the OL blocking we need. We have that Tua. He just cannot be the Tua we need because he doesn’t have time to allow his fast WRs to get open where Tua can throw to. Imagine an offense that gives him that much time to throw. Phins would easily be contenders.
Nobody has figured out our offense, it's because somehow, they still get pressure rushing 3 friggin guys and playing zone with the other 8 guys ffs! Our O line is shxxxxxxt
I Hope all Miami fans admit tua is not the answer to the dolphins niether is coach Macdaniel, they are not good enough for the fins to take the next step and that is an honest fact happy christmas everyone
Hey @Dougliedowrong I'm tired of people saying Tua is the problem they seem to believe that qbs should never have bad games that they should not be allowed to make mistakes they forget Brady, Manning, Brees, Marino no qb in NFL history has been perfect. I'm a strong believer that Tua isn't bad he will never be a qb to carry the team on his own but the narrative that you can't win with him baffles me Tua is a qb that to win I believe he doest need amazing recievers. If they were to get rid of the whole o line except brewer, paul and possibly jackson also trade Hill and mostert get a big target in the draft if one is available a target like a Justin Jefferson or a Mike Evans someone that can go up and get the ball and win 50/50 balls. That will give Tua the best chance to win. Make the team a run first team and have Tua manage the game make the throws when he has too the one thing no one hasn't talked about is how defenses have been playing us and the reason why. They know our o line is horrible which now they don't have to bring people into the box which also makes our run game irrelevant which hurts our pass game because we become one dimensional and then Tua looks horrible because the defense doesn't respect our run game and just worry about Tua throwing
I think we need new players. Our WR do not get open for being so fast. Our Linemen are basically College Level players so that does not work in the NFL. I think we need to move to a zero screen offense. Miami's offense is very simple to beat and yes everyone can beat them.
The good defenses and well coached teams figured out our offense in December of 2022.
Started with the Chargers loss if I remember
As far as the o-line it is an indictment on McDaniel that he keeps putting Eichenburg, Julian Hill and Jones out there every game
We're in this perpetual pain roller coaster of a fandom together Doug lol.
McDaniel is not HC material
If he only managed the game and someone else called the plays we’d know for sure.

Pure comedy Doug. The O line has been pure comedy for years

That would be okay, if only they brought in some REAL muscle for the o-line.

The offense relies on teams being fooled which good teams dont do and nor will teams late in the season. Fins rarely run high percentage pass plays.

36:09 RT should never play for them again knowing that big of a mistake could cost Tua his career
The defenses have figured out a screen play every other play. Not very difficult. The guy can't call a play anymore, he is seeing ghosts.
They should hire this guy 😂
@8:12 he doesnt make that throw on the run. he has an average to below average arm he needs to set his feet for that throw
Mcdonalds figured out mikes offensive game plan
Watching the Houston their front four was knifing through the interior of the Dolphins o line….. this offense is predicated through the running game this is the shanahan offense it relies on a strong running game. Teams are dropping there safeties deep.
Ancient Dolphin fans say yes....
Doug the Dolphins know what the problem is they refuse to fix it. You can't fix stupid
Ultimately. The big guys up front win football games and championships... The rest os dressing. We don't have those guys (defo oline). Rushing 3 getting to the qb. Unacceptable. We might look good from time to time. Long term. Obvious disappointment.
👍 yup, isn’t it obvious……
@27:40 , just a TERRIBLE read and throw. Mike McDaniel just HAS to say tyreek ran the wrong route because he CANT in NO WAY shape or form , bring down tuas confidence
We see what happens when his confidence is low 😂
even if that was the case Tua should not have thrown the ball
@@iec7587 tua not READING , he just spot throwing that specific play 🤦♂️
@@iec7587 tua BEEN throwin those INTS since rookie year 🤷♂️
Tua should never throw a ball over the middle again😂😂 look at hills 2 catches and look when TUA throws the ball. Hill is not open. It s called anticipation. Is Jonu smith open on the 4th down TD when TUA throws it? No. It’s called anticipation. When u have short midget WR’s who rely on speed and there is a small window WR has to be there.
They figured it out last season.
Doug tua had an average of 4 secs per throw. The offense is designed for 2. Most of his sacks were 6 or 7 secs.
Where did ya get your information cause he is ranked 50th with 2.31 TTT
You said ado😂😂
Things we need two guards cut Liam trashcan cut Robert jones we need a running back similar to Derrick Henry cut mostert and Jeff Wilson
Cut Chubb try bring back values Campbell one more year cut armstead and draft another tackle Incase of injury
It would not if they had an offensive line to be able to run the ball. But when your one dimensional they got you
I'm glad you mentioned Holland, Doug.
He's an absolute bum.
Nobody speaks about it.
Even last year he was horrible.
you know doug.. watching your video if you really see good teams... and they are like covering everthing in the middle,,, great olines and running games exploit that and two teams do it best are the eagles and 49ers
Not just that they know we got alot of 2 d and 3rd string on the field so they can beat them... but they have figured his scheme
Maybe he had a concussion
Nobody has figured out our offense, it's because somehow, they still get pressure rushing 3 friggin guys and playing zone with the other 8 guys ffs! Our O line is shxxxxxxt
Use the wildcat with Achane. Do something different
I Hope all Miami fans admit tua is not the answer to the dolphins niether is coach Macdaniel, they are not good enough for the fins to take the next step and that is an honest fact happy christmas everyone
Nothing to teach us Doug, we just simply suck.
I don't think nothing will change.
Hope I'm wrong.
Please let me be wrong!!
Our team is in a sad state when we need Tua to be 100% perfect to win a game
Doug, If teams have figured out McDaniels..Do you think Tua can thrive under another system or another coach?
Yup
Doug, Are we still more worried about the offensive line then they are? 😅
I think we need new players. Our WR do not get open for being so fast. Our Linemen are basically College Level players so that does not work in the NFL. I think we need to move to a zero screen offense. Miami's offense is very simple to beat and yes everyone can beat them.
They definitely did to bad we can’t figure out how to beat good teams-
We need guards bad and I think we need more proven corners besides Ramsey
Short awnser : DUHH
