- A quick chat about the Beaudens Portable Power Generator, how I use it and how its been for me in the month that I have owned it.
Link to the place I purchased it is here... (I am not selling this item I am simply just chatting about it)
Hello and thank you for this test.
Before buying this energy station, I need to know one particular point. Do you mind doing a simple test please?
1 - Connect this station to the electrical network of the house.
2 - Connect a 12V device to the 12V-10A output.
--> Can this station supply 12V equipment while it recharges itself on the home network?
--> Does the 12V equipment continue to operate without brownouts if a power failure is simulated by unplugging the socket connected to the home network of the house?
Thank you in advance for your answer.
PF
Cheers for this mate. So many things I want aren't reviewed anywhere, so this is invaluable. I'll get one to charge my ebike 👍🏻
did it charge up your E bike
I’ve got one of these it’s fab. Had a power cut in the house a month back and it lit up 2 x 12v lights until the electric came back on. Use it in my camper van. I’ve got the solar panel too, they sent me a £20 money off voucher for it, when I signed up on their website. Haven’t tried the solar yet as the U.K. is going through storm season, but looking forward to using it when out in the sticks in the summer. Highly recommend it!
Interesting bit of kit and thanks fro sharing - is it possible to charge it from a 12v cigarette lighter in the car? Thanks
Hey buddy, yes you can charge it from the 12v point in a car, it will take longer than the mains but it can be done ;)
@@Yorkshirepoptopadventures great stuff 👍 thanks alot for taking the time to reply - much appreciated 👍
No problems bud, I've since moved on to the EcoFlow units (a lot more power) but still use this one when I'm off grid and need a super portable charging bank in my bag..
I love this little power station. It was my first portable power station.
Thanks for the helpful tips. Was on the fence about this one, but you pushed me off and I now have one on the way. :-) Thanks again.
My absolute pleasure, I have just finished installing a solar panel on the roof of my van to power it and the rest of the van... The video should be up soon ;)
@@Yorkshirepoptopadventures Did you installed your Solarpanel? I really like my Beaudens. Works like charm, but it has one problem: if you charge it via Solar, it wont charge the next day by itself. It seems, they cut off the MMPT-Charger, when sun is down. But it does not come back the next day, you have to unplug an plug the panel again when there is light again. Otherwise it does not recognise, that there is a panel. The beaudens is on somehow.. .the display is on, but without the panel-symbol, and it wont charge. Its really annoying, So you cant use it as a real whole solarstation, because you manually have to plug it everyday by hand. (or you build some relay-stuff which will do that for you... But that has to be powered from another source.)
@@sonntagskind84 I found that out today... im gutted... i am in the process of doing an updated video showing the changes. I have splitter and am charging the generator via solar and the leisure battery direct via the CTEK split charger. Seem to be working well... ill tag the video on to my updated video from the solar panel install video which is on my chanel now
@@sonntagskind84 Hi, can you explain this a bit more as in, I'm just looking at going off grid for a little while and in a van, but want basic living. Does this not work well with a solar panel or do you mean every day you would have to wake up and charge again?
@@coyi3884 Okay, let me explain it with a van-life-example: You arrive at your destination. You place the solar panel outside, plug it into the beaudens, an it charges. Fine so far. You can also use it, while it charges, no problem. Then the sun goes down. You leave the panel connected over night. The charger in the beaudens cuts off, of course. The next day, sun rises, lets say at 6am. And the beaudens does... Nothing. It just tells via display, that a panel is connected, but it does not charge. You have to unplug the panel, and plug it again, that the beaudens starts charging. So if you drained the battery of the beaudens in the evening, it will still be drained, when you get up at 10am. Otherwiese you have to get up at 6am, unplug it, replug it and go to bed again to have some energy at 10am. The beaudens will not start recharging by itself. You have to unplug and replug. (or use a switch in the cable of the solar panel). Hope its a little bit more understandable.
Excellent informative & common sense video. That’ll be perfect for my caravan! Many thanks! 👍
Hi, thanks for the video, very helpful, just about to buy one of these in expectation of the supposed power cuts that might be coming our way in the UK. Will watch the solar one when you do it.
We Love your videos, better than TV and informative....Great!
Just purchased! Can't wait for it to arrive!
Cheers for the review. I was looking to power a heater but I guess its not possible. Could you use a kettle on it or would that need to much power?
Hey mate, it definitely wouldn't power a kettle bud. Try the EcoFlow River or Delta would though ;)
Totally forgot to add the link in the description ;) ooops www.amazon.co.uk/BEAUDENS-Portable-Generator-Phosphate-Emergency/dp/B07MC7TV2G/ref=sr_1_1?keywords=BEAUDENS+INVERTER&qid=1581090899&sr=8-1
Thanks for info would it run a 10 inch TV or at least charge my 10 inch TV ,what size solar panel would one get with this I bought eco flow and solar panel it all had to go back no good thanks for your help 👍🤗🙏💖🇬🇧
It probably wouldn't run the TV for long enough. Maybe an hour at best. It's just a small unit for emergencies like charging phones or running smaller 240v appliances maybe once or twice for a short period of time... I think I need to do an updated review on it though as this was filmed a long time ago
@@Yorkshirepoptopadventures Thank you look forward to Ur update 👍🤗🇬🇧
Thanks, been looking at this exact model. Total newbie to solar and have a couple of Q's : (1) So the solar panel connects to the station and charges the station. You can then unhook the station and move it around the house and hook things up to it to charge, yes ? (2) Is there a display on it that tells you how much charge is left ? (3) Can you recommend a 100w panel to go with it ? (4) If it's rainy , are the leads going to be long enough to run from the panel, which is outdoors, to the power station, which for example you might put inside the kitchen (5) Are there special cables to hook from the station to your phone, ipad, etc...what are they called and where to buy them ? Thanks :)
Hiya,
1. Yes it does (it comes with the connectors to do so
2. Yes you can unhook it whenever you like and take it with you
3. There is a simple display that shows you how much charge is left
4. Not 100% sure on a solar panel as I have yet to buy one myself
5. As long as you get a lead long enough to go from the panel you will be fine in the rain
6. Just use your normal charging leads for your iPads and phones as they just plug in to the USB ports as normal.
Hope this helps.. ;)
@@Yorkshirepoptopadventures Thanks so much ! You've really helped :)
Am I right in thinking you could power multiple devices with an extension cable through this generator?
Yes it could as long as you don't exceed 150w
@@Yorkshirepoptopadventures Brilliant! Thanks for the reply.
Brilliant.. might have to be getting myself one of these.. good video and info. 👍👍👍
Do you have a link please to a solar panel charging system? On that has the right connectors...
I've just bought this and can't wait to try it! Your video convinced me! Can you hook it up to your Leisure Battery directly to charge? Also would you recommend their 100W solar panel?
Hiya Charlotte - Thats great news - I have another video on my chanel showing the installation of a solar panel to charge the generator - There have been a few changes but in essence yes, you plug your battery charger in to the Beaudens generator and it will charge your leisrure battery ;)
Hi did you tried solar panels ?
If yes which one you was used
Thanks, helpful 👍🏼 Do you think it might run a microwave oven for short bursts during a powercut?
Hiya, sadly not. It only works for appliances up to 150w and microwaves are 10 times that power. ;)
I like your style of presentation, easy to understand and very amusing.
Thanks for the review, Will this run a Toaster in the Plug part ?
Hiya buddy, sadly not!
Hi iv got one of these power stashon but mine won't change do you now how to reset it thanks
These are finally back in stock (20/06/21) I`m gonna order one now :)
How did you get on? ... I just bought one the other day (25/08/21)I read now some people say the battery meter isn't accurate at all? Thanks.
Colin. Just come across your video on beaudens. Do you think it could charge a ebike. Could keep it in bike rack
Hey buddy, sadly it wouldn't, you'd get some charge but there isn't enough in the battery to do a full charge sadly! ;)
I am preparing for the power outages planned for wildfire season in northern California and am wondering if this can keep my Dell laptop powered for an 8 hour work day then maybe recharge it from my car. Can this do the trick? Pardon if this is a ridiculous question.
Hiya, it all depends on the power of your laptop. My laptop lasts about 4hrs (of intense use) on its battery. The power generator can recharge my lap top twice over so in theory would be 12hrs of battery life... I would say 8hrs would be fine fepenfingnon usage and power of laptop
Can it be charged from Mains 240ac
Also can it be left permanently left on charge while supplying power to Home Router and CCTV as a backup due to power cut/failure?
I think so yes, I left mine on charge for about 3 days once accidentally and it was fine... Double check with the manufacturer though mate
Good review m8 helped me out loads thanks m8
Helpful and informative.
Thanks for your review. It seems the AC output is not a pure sinewave. Did this pose challenges for your laptop charging or small home appliances? Thanks
Hiya thank you bud...
I haven't had any problems so far
I have had the following working/charging on it
Lap top
TV
All my chargers for photography
Low wattage blender
Phones
iPad
Other tablets
Lamp (running LED light bulb)
Photography LED light panels
Hope this helps
@@Yorkshirepoptopadventures thanks for your help
Does it come with a charger for generator to charge the electric way with a plug if so how many hrs does it take to charge thanks 👍🤗🇬🇧
It comes with a uk plug to charge it and usually takes around 2hrs to charge :)
Thanks for the videos I’ve been enjoying them. Question on this unit. Do you think it would run a small tube heater (greenhouse heater) thinking of one for my VW Caddy Maxi - they are 60-80w ?
Hiya Micky, thanks so much, glad to be of help.... If its under 150w it should run it fine mate. I am not sure how affective a 60w heater is going to be though but nevertheless it shouldn't have any problems powering it (my laptop is 65w and thats totally fine)
Hope this helps bud and take care...
Thanks for the reply. I’ll let you know when I know 🙌 thanks!
It would be great to see how that works with solar. I'd like to know if you can plug a solar panel straight into it.
Hi Robert, there is another video on my chanel showing me installing a solar panel bud!!
Two questions mate. And excuse me, I'm new to this. A. What was it like with solar and B. Could you use a TV with it?
Hiya mate, it is ace with solar, my 100w panel fully charges it up during the day and yes you could run a TV off it providing it draws under 150w (it should do)
i have this model and sad to say its not any good for mains output usb and 12 volts outputs are ok but after owning it for a year the ac has stopped working
not happy with it as its now a phone charger.
Good morning , is there another series of Beaudens more than 166 wh ?
It was so good that I would like to buy another one but they are all sold out everywhere! The only one I can buy cannot be delivered to Portugal. I wonder what is happening to Beaudens, does anybody know?
I think they have discontinued this one now and have updated it - Not sure what to though - I also wanted a second one but cant find one anywhere for love nor money! :(
Hi mate, me again, not sure if I’m doing anything wrong with the generator, but the maximum time I’m getting out to power my 12v cool box is 2 1/2 hours, I’ve recharged it twice and got the same result, what do you reckon?
Hi mate, it all depends on how much power your cool box pulls. Have a look in the spec to see if it's a high power one. Lots of variables with power....
Yorkshire Pop Top Adventures Ok mate, thanks again
Is it still going strong? Any visible battery degradation or any other problems?
Thanks
Hiya bud, yep it's still going strong, still charges and discharges at the same rate! :)
@@Yorkshirepoptopadventures thanks for the update!
I have been using a solar panel and a charge controller hooked to a bike battery and it is time to upgrade, specially because it got wet last night and it isn't working properly....so.... I was considering either this one or the ecoflow river and I want something that lasts.
When you got this did it come with the AC point on front panel looking like uk setup as mine came and is Europe set up 2 pin.
Did you buy an additional adaptor or is the unit your holding as you got it.
Mine is brand new from ebay
Any advice would be helpful
Cheers
Dave
Hiya dave, mine came with a UK plug hole in the front.
@@Yorkshirepoptopadventures ok thanks for the reply, I'll have to send mine back.
Cheers again mate
Hi there :) I'm new to electronics and camping! When I'm out on the road, how can I charge this up? Could I connect it to the cigarette lighter in my van and just charge it from there when the van is running? I don't have a leisure battery or anything like that. It also seems they're completely sold out! Could you recommend other similar power stations? :) thanks!
Hiya Maria, yes you can charge it from the cigarette lighter port. I'm not sure how long it would take though. They sell out really fast, then come back in to stock so keep a keen eye out for one on Amazon :)
Not sure about others, I have been told that the Power Oak is amazing but its quite a bit more expensive
Did you ever get round to sourcing a solar panel?
Yes mate, I have a panel on my roof and a portable solar panel by EcoFlow ;) there are a few videos on my channel explaining the set up now bud ;)
@@Yorkshirepoptopadventures I saw your vlog on the ecoflow river pro so which portable ecoflow solar panel are you using, and will it also charge the Beaudens?
Hiya I bought this one uk.ecoflow.com/products/110w-solar-panel and yes it works on my Beaudens as well ;)
how do attach this to your leisure battery? When on solar does it charge the leisure battery and itself and run your fridge? Thanks in advance
Hiya buddy, there is a video on my channel explaining how it all works (inc diagrams for downloading etc) way easier than trying to type it all 🤣🤣
how much time it takes to charge the station from solar panel and from the AC curent ?
About 4hrs on a good sunny day with a 100w panel and about 3hrs on AC ;)
Hi could you tell me what type of heater I could buy to plug into this thanks
Hiya Amanda, sadly it's not powerful enough to power a heater of any substance. For heat you're looking at least 1000w and this only allows you to power items up to 150w ;)
Is it stable enough to charge a macbook? How long is the 12v charge lead?
Hiya Craig, sadly I don't know as I haven't tried the mac book with it. The charging lead is about 0.5m
@@Yorkshirepoptopadventures many thanks. So no issues with the modified sine wave output when charging your laptop?
No problems, no issues with my HP laptop at all!
Do you remember how much you paid for this one? Seeing them out of stock everywhere but occasionally see one listed for £140
It was £139 so that sounds about right bud ;)
What about a 12v cooler. Can I charge that
Yes absolutely, the length of time it will last is down to how much power is drawn by the cooler... (and as long as it draws no more power than 150w)
Excellent Thanks
While I have you. Did you ever try a solar panel with it. If so which one
Yes I have a 100w solar panel from Amazon plugged in to it. There is a video on my channel showing me installing it and hooking it up :)
From a full charge, how long wlil that little white LED night light on the front of the unit stay on?
I havent tested it bud but it's super low power LED so it should stay on for more than 24hrs at least. I'll do a test and let you know
Can you charge it and run a device at the same time?
Yes absolutely bud
Im wandering is it powerful enough to charge something like electric bike?
Possibly although I'm not 100% sure as I don't know how many watts the bike pulls. If it pulls less than 150w to charge then yes it will work fine ;)
batteri on my bike is acctually 317 w, it wouldnt work :/
The bike will be 317w but the charging pull might not be. Check on the charger pack how much it pulls to charge (ie a laptop draws 65w to charge and you can find it on the back of the brick part of the lead) check that and you'll know ;)
great info.cant see a link?
Cheers bud, its in the top comment :)
@@Yorkshirepoptopadventures must be missing something lol
can it work on keeping my tv on in a power cut
It will if your TV is under 150w matey, but it probably wont last too long :)
Hi. Pass through charging? Thanks
Yes.
You can charge a power bank from it, I assume?
Absolutely
Is that a bodhrán on the wall behind you?
Yep, it was my granddads (from Sligo) I'm a drummer so he left it in his will for me.... good spot mate!
Could it power a printer 🖨/ scanner ?
As long as it doesn't draw any more than 150w it should do :)
Avoid buying. Mine broke with in a year. As soon as I connect something to AC (anything Im pretty sure the W are under the limit capacity) it starts beeping very loud and stops feeding energy. There is no way to contact their support, I cant even find the user manual anywhere online
@juanjoserodriguezponce9788 that's bad mate... I hope you get it sorted... 4 years on and I'm still using mine.
Can u charge it with a normal UK plug ??
Hi Ali - Sorry its taken AGES to reply - Yes, you can charge it with either a plug, the 12v adaptor (in car) or via solar power (all the leads are included)
helpful vid
Could you run a dremel off it
Only if the Dremel is under 150w bud :)
Shame they aren’t available now, good videos though mate 👍🏻
i've just bought one off eBay, i'm hoping it's the genuine article when it arrives next week.
I ordered one a few month's ago and it got cancelled due to no stock. Just checked again last week and it was available on Amazon. Came 2 days after ordering. Worth keep checking now and then I guess.
Hello, I just purchased one of this mini converter on battery, i was thinking it was 50Ah for 12V as it was indicated on the website I bought it and just seen it's only 10Ah for 12V, 52 is for 3,2V... Well :/ ok I have to search better.
1/Can we charge another battery with it, like a 52Ah one directly without any problem?
2/If yes can we charge it during its proper charging, and via a solar panel?
3/I plan to make a folding camping table with 100w pannels, can I charge this battery with the 4? Or one? (It's indicated on the instructions 1Amp for charging, and seen a video of one of the panels I want to use delivering 5A, maybe it's too risky?)
Oh, yes also, do you think we can run a webasto with it, to heat a tent or a mini water tank/bottle to get hot/warm water to take a shower without lighting a fire in places where it is forbiden and if yes how many time? Ty for the answers
@@andydegaugue Hiya matey, I am not really the one to ask as I only use it as a back up generator/charging bank etc...
I would definitely advise you not to use it to power the diesel heater though as if it runs out of power the deisel heater wont have the power to shut down properly and you will have over heating issues (potentially a fire hazard)
You can charge another battery with it (I charge my laptop batteries, leisure battery etc) but its just a top up not a full charge. My solar panel charges the beaudens up as0 well as the leisure battery at the same time but not fully, its a good "back up" if your power is running low over night etc...
Its not that powerful and it sounds like you are going to need something way bigger to power your ideas...
Hope this helped a little bit bud
@@Yorkshirepoptopadventures you have 100w panels?
@@andydegaugue Yes mate, just one though
@@Yorkshirepoptopadventures ty a lot
Their (Beaudens) website isn't even working. They offer a 10 year warranty, but their company doesn't exist already. Goto Beaudens.com . It hasn't been up since I first checked a few weeks ago. Plus they haven't posted anything on their Facebook page since January. This company seems sketchy to me. Plus their own 30W solar panel doesn't charge this item? That is stupid. Returning both the unit and solar panel.
I know its been a month since you commented (sorry, just catching up) - Thier website seems to be working fine now- I bought mine from Amazon and I am currently running a solar panel to charge it (video of me installing and setting it up should be up soon) ;)
Hi mate, Do you know if it will power an electric cool box (12v)?
Yes mate, it powers mine fine... just make sure your cool box doesn't draw more than 150w and you'll be totally fine
Yorkshire Pop Top Adventures Thanks for the speedy reply mate, I’m not clued up on electrics, all I know is it’s a 24L Hi Gear electric coolbox from Go outdoors, with the option of plugging it into your 12V cigarette lighter power socket in the car or into the wall socket (240V), roughly how long would I get out of it?
I managed about 12hrs from mine before it ran out... its not a replacement battery, more a back up battery
Awesome mate, thanks for your help, best go buy one now, cheers and happy camping
Tried and tested now, works a treat, do you use a solar panel to charge the Beaudens generator, if so which one?

Would it run a diesel heater
I haven't really thought about it. Having said that if I could I personally wouldn't because a diesel heater needs to be hard wired to a leisure battery.
Could you use a hair dryer with this? (Asking for my GF )😂
🤣🤣 no mate, they are way too powerful
