the whole starting at 5th year does sound odd from a lore stand point, but from a gaming stand point it makes sense, I mean imagine trying to write this story for an 11 year old for 1 game. Also i get the feeling we might already know a little bit going into hogwarts since we seem to have natural control over out powers as it is just don't know the details.
Yeah, since hes not a gamer, Ill let his gripe pass. But I was just thinking, "well what did you expect?"
you either have us start older at year 5, or have an 11 year old able to battle dark wizards and all this other stuff.
I initially didnt like it either bc it does ruin that immersive first year house experience. But I think its a necessary sacrifice.
The only thing I would have recommended (and maybe they thought about it but it didnt work with the story) Is for us to create our character (as a 5th year) use technology to age them down a bit, and let us do first year stuff like exploring diagon alley and the sorting ceremony, and then like right after youre sorted and the hat comes off it like transitions into the title screen and when it comes back we've time skipped.
Also, 11 year olds do not deserve to be brutally abused and forced into slaughtering people. Which is exactly what happens in the game. You're mauled by random enemies, forced to fight them violently, and then expected to kill them, or at least close to it before you learn the literal Killing Curse later on.
Video games need to make a MASSIVE change. We should never allow games to feature the main character as a serial killing child. We should never allow games to use child abuse as a character development tool. Not even the Harry Potter books, which originally created the idea of a Wizarding World, do that. They do include child abuse, but it's not character development at all for Harry. He's still the same kid, even when he has access to a massively rich vault of money and better home life at Hogwarts.
I do agree however transferring is not unknown or impossible as we see in the beginning of Half Blood Prince where Draco talks about possibly transferring to Durmstrang.
So I do not think it is fair to point it out as an odd thing/negative about the game to me
Supposedly the main character's backstory is a mirror of harry's except he experienced it at an older age, he survived something incredible due to obscure magic, difference being he remembers it

Although rewatching the film series a year ago reminded me why I loved this franchise to begin with, Hogwarts legacy is the most excited I've been for anything new Harry Potter wise since 2011

About the player starting 5th grade, he may have been homeschooled and something happened that made him need to go to hogwarts or transfer from another school, studying in hogwarts is not mandatory and enrollment of all witches born in the region is registered I don't think that just because you didn't get into the first year it would deprive you of changing your mind later
Would be cool if the school transfer was a part of our character's backstory during the character creation to determine our starting skills. For example if we we transferred from Dumstrung, we would have a character with good basic knowledge of the dark arts etc
yeah, as long as we werent completely ignorant of magic (like harry) before we start at hogwarts ill be more satisfied.

I'm leaning towards home-schooling. Logic dictates that home-schooled children in the wizarding world, while presumably capable enough to become productive members of the magical community in due time, wouldn't be quite at the level of a Hogwarts student on average. Learned scholars with years and years of teaching experience and accumulated, specialist knowledge vs- someone's parents - one needn't be some kind of genius to figure out who'd have an advantage in terms of educational level. I don't think it's a transfer from another school, though. Or if it did, Avalanch shot itself in the foot: Wouldn't that demean whichever wizarding school that would be? Why would someone who attended a foreign but equally prestigious institution as Hogwarts need to "catch up"?
@@ninclow5421 I can see that. I was only just re reading Harry Potter 7 this morning, and I was reminded that they only just made attending hogwarts mandatory. So it's definitely feasible that our character was schooled outside of hogwarts and doesn't even have to be any other school, and then has his accident In which I assume your ancient power is revealed So then we go to hogwarts to learn more about it
I'm really excited for this game and it seems like the wizarding world is in good hands. It just seems like the ones who did it know and love the wizarding world so much.
It's gonna change Harry Potter, but in a good way, I think. I'm a big RPG fan and this is a dream come true, a Harry Potter game that doesn't make you play as Harry Potter himself, and rather allows you to be who you want to be. Awesome!
As much as I like the idea, I just wish either you start as a first year or have a online aspect where you get to do all 7 years.
But I would also like to see a more book accurate versions of 1-7, but with some of the og games influences

@@dragonfang9462 idk why they’re having you start as a fifth year considering that’s the year students take their O.W.Ls. Not exactly the best year to coming in late. Unless they make up some excuse like being from a different school for the first 4 years. But personally I have my fingers crossed they’re gonna do like a GTA online thing where you’ll be able to go through years 1-7. Though idk if they’d have it be like real time with the year, or have the years sped up

And 5th year is the most stressful because of the exams, so having someone start their school year at such a stressful term is kinda weird. But that’s going by what we were told about the game premise. And an online feature can be added that would let you have more of the average hogwarts student feel. I’m excited for the game don’t get me wrong, I just see the potential of this game because we know a online version would kick ass like gta online or the old republic game.
I think you forget that in the second book Gilderoy says he's been given permission to "restart" the duelling club, insinuating that it hasn't been around for some time. Which would easily explain why they "added" it to the game. I imagine in the 1890s duelling was a more popular form of diplomacy than verbally hashing it out

I think our character might be a decendend from Merlin!
There are numerous times when Merlin is mentioned and explained that Merlin used ancient magic at hogwarts, and our character can use ancient magic.
There's more, for some reason we are just like Harry famous when we start at hogwarts, this can be because we are the decendend of Merlin.
And last but not least, there has to be a reason why we are such a powerfull wizard but we start in the 5th year.
I love this theory because every time I imagine myself at hogwarts I imagine that I am the most powerful witch because I am a descendant of Merlin I just wish we could have had his backstory of what Merlin’s life was like before he met King Arthur.
As a gamer myself, I learned that mechanics and story parts should always serve the gameplay. The gameplay is so important because it must be fun. So I expect that some unlogical things or mechanics will happen to make the game more fun to play.
This could give some weird things in the lore, but I think we should not take all parts in this game too seriously. Just enjoy the fact that you can start your personal adventure in the wizarding world!

It's a game with lore, just like other games with lore. Why can't it be book accurate _and_ fun? Why must the lore be compromised for people who don't care? This is why the movies are pointless.

It's called Ludonarrative Dissonance. Like how in GTA, or other games like that, when you go around murdering civilians it's obviously not canonical to the actual story/canon

As children, we always dreamed of certain games or TV shows that the creators always seemed to refuse to give us. But now that we are the adults and we are the ones in charge, we can finally get what we always wanted.

@@tgiacin435 we kinda did actually considering the Hufflepuff common room was shown on Pottermore and every single illustration in there was created by essentially recreating drawings jk Rowling draw herself (I don’t think she draw a version of every single thing in there however 100% of the art work in it had to be approved by her so I assume the logic should be that every single illustration you see in pottermore is visually canon with the books, the Hufflepuff common room in the game looks identical to the pottermore illustration of it).

The one thing I would LOVE if they added it would be magical abilities like when you customize your character you can become a metamorphmagis or you can make it so you’re a parseltongue
Thats a cool idea but that would probably change the storyline completely cause if you were for example battling the basilisk as a snake boss but you are a parseltongue, you could potentially talk to the basilisk and convince it to not to hurt you.
Maybe you could learn Parseltongue? Not be born with it?

I'm honestly traumatized by Hogwarts Mysteries (for obvious reasons) and when that game I came out I was pretty young. My heart straight up got crushed by the game play. So this trailer really surprised me. You can actually do what you want and change the story depending on the decisions you make. Besides that the map is HUGE and I feel like you could just get lost in this game without the storyline. On that note tho, the story is really interesting. Having the possibility of ending up in a very dark place instead of being a benevolent hero is GREAT. All the Easter eggs and riddles seem cool too.

Well about them not using the Duelling-floor at 9:00 ... They obviously used the one in the great hall, because Lockhard thought that his Duelling Club would be the most well visited admired thingy thing Hogwarts has ever seen... Of course he had to prepare it in a room that could house every single student! The classroom would have been to small.

I think he's already the Hogwarts Headmaster during this time. He became Headmaster in 1847 until 1925.
Allen Lim no. He was born in 1847 & died in 1925. He was in his late 70s when he died. We don’t know what year be became Headmaster but he probably would’ve been named the position in his later years.
I assumed that the character transferred from another magical school and that’s why he started at Hogwarts in the 5th year. I suppose we’ll see when we play the game. I would like to see the other magical schools featured more at some point.

One thing I wish they would do is on the PC version make you draw with your mouse the way you should move your wand to cast certain spells, would be great. Harry Potter always had alot of potential for the game, magic system, a great location, good lore/world, and creatures/characters.
If you watch the leaked version of the trailer for the game, it shows an aiming system kind of like that, but that was years ago, so it could be changed 🤷🏿♂
I would imagine how annoying that would be 😂, I feel like only real HARDCORE. Fans would want that, maybe just as a one time thing, but for continuous gameplay? That would be annoying, but I’m a console player so what do I know.🤷🏽♂️
I literally cannot wait to play this, although I am dreading the price, but this is truly the closest we will get to truly experiencing Hogwarts. The visuals and graphics fit right in with the more recent games like Cyberpunk 2077 and Elden Ring. I'm still surprised this is probably the first Harry Potter/ Hogwarts games that looks this modern and realistic but from what they have shown I do not mind the wait as It looks truly phenomenal. I'm almost certain you will be able to choose your own house as people get very protective and defensive about their own houses, just wouldn't make sense if you couldn't. Either way, I can't wait!!!

The graphics and art truly are amazing!!! That being said, it’s obvious to me they also took inspiration from the original pottermore! To say we’ve never seen the Hufflepuff common room isn’t true because it was drawn and described in pottermore, and also the prefects bathroom for example was inspired by pottermore rather than the movie

I think Hogwarts Legacy going to heavily expand The Goblin Rebellions and hopefully goblin culture also I have a theory that the main character is a transfer from another Wizarding School witch is why we are starting out as a fifth year
But of that were teh case why does the protag need to play catch up?
Well to further my theory I think that all wizarding schools have different curriculums depending on the school so what would be considered fifth year in one school would be considered third or fourth year in another or my back up is that he is of fifth year age but had to skip a school year because of his family moving closer to the UK or another theory is that our protagonist was homeschooled until he was 15 in which he was sent to Hogwarts
@@theblastzone3037 I’m not sure about this theory, because In the trailer sabastian sallow refers to us as a “beginner”. In my eye we can take that three ways, 1.) muggle born who gain his powers through a magical accident that occur they only those with magical abilities could survive. 2.) we come from a pureblood or magical family, be we were believed to be a squib with no magical abilities. 3.) the classic Voldemort and credence story, born from magical parents/family, but orphaned and grew up in the muggle world, and is going to hogwarts will be all about us discovering our magical legacy and ancestors, where we find out we are descendants of Merlin. I just thought of a 4th option, maybe it was just poor choice of words and I’m taking it to literally and maybe “beginner” was referring to us as the player and not the character himself.
You should do a walkthrough of this game and point out all the details would be cool
some things I'm confused about:
1) isn't the unforgivable curses legal in that point of time?
2) can we become an anti-hero, and what would we be called if we were? the In-betweens, the night-casters, anti-wizards?
3) Do we choose what house we'll be in or is there a quiz?
4) what happens if we choose our last name to be Potter?
5) if there's DLC, would we see 1st Year Dumbledore?
6) What if the explorable map was the old Hogwarts Grounds?
7) Will the Characters pronounce some names or will it all be "hey, boy, read this" or will we get a nickname to go by?
I honestly think that you maybe aren’t 5 years behind but you’re just a transfer student from one of the other wizarding schools (ex. Ilvermorny, Durmstrang, Koldostov, Beaxbatons)

You can always watch other people play it on youtube, that's how i got through halo, mass effect, war for cybertron, most all legend of zelda games, most all pokemon games, both spider-man ps4s, star wars fallen order, the arkum series, telltale batman, minecraft story mode, sonic mania, tomb raider, uncharted and the simpsons game to name a few
I'm not a gamer myself. But I do love it when you can write your own story within a game. And the great graphics are a plus!

This game looks amazing and could be groundbreaking for the HP franchise! The only small issue i have with it is the voice acting, which can be of and doesn't really match for certain characters... but again this game will be phenomenal if they keep their promises and take their time.

I heard a rumor last year that the story of the third Fantastic Beasts movie, The Secrets of Dumbledore, may make a few references to Hogwarts Legacy.
The CaC would be likely in his/her late 40s to early possibly mid 50s by then as his/her school years at Hogwarts were from 1890 to 1892 with 1892 being the year Albus Dumbledore started as a 1st year student, and we learned from the Fantastic Beasts films that Dumbledore was one of Newt Scamander's professors during his tenure as a Hogwarts student.

If the game takes place in 1890, and Albus Dumbledore was born in 1881, then we should meet Albus at Hogwarts in 1892 when the main character is in their 7th year! 😁
But will the game go past 5th year.
They specifically are making it so no big name well-known characters over shines ours so we will not be seeing Dumbledore. It would be cool for like a DLC but that hasn't been a confirmed concept.

I'm so conflicted. On the one hand, I want to play as a Hufflepuff because that's my own house. On the other, I kinda want to become a dark wizard in the end, but I can't reconcile the two because Hufflepuffs don't go dark. They're traits are Kindness and Loyalty, neither of which work for a bad guy.
Any trait can be used for bad things,
If you really want to be a dark wizard, you just have to angle them right,
Kindness - Who are you kind to?
Loyalty - Who are you loyal to? Who do you trust - are they the wrong person to trust?
Kindness can be a ploy, but I’ll admit that feels more slytherin
You can work it - your traits influence your decisions sure - how much influence do they exert? Towards which decisions?
Do what you want, being in a specific house isn’t indicative of overall goodness/badness - I think all our resident Slytherins have fought very hard on that front
In summary do what you want - when it comes to people, everything is possible bc humans are messes
I mean Peter was a gryffindor which traits are courage and bravery, yet he was a coward and died a coward. Griffindors are also stubborn and minds not easily changed, but Peter was easily influenced.

Customizing your character is just like in Dragon Age: Inquisition, never planned ones before. I’m gonna get this game🎮 like a month after it comes out, or if its close to the holidays 🎄 then it’ll b the best gift 🎁 to receive. I have a PS4 and not gonna spend $500 on a PS5 while it’s that much.
Hi, Morgan! On the topic of Hogwarts Legacy, I'd like to recommend a lesser-known channel called Retro Raconteur. It's been sharing updates about this game from the beginning and also did a lot of digging that fans like us will enjoy.
One thing most people don't know is that: there is an official Hp card game by Portkeys released in China last September (Harry Potter: Magic Awakened) which I personally like both the authenticity and the creativity of the creators. It has a totally different art style and a nice fan community. I think it's a unique mobile game that is already 100x better than disappointing Hp mobile games released previously. Then Hogwarts Legacy will carry on and take the experience to a whole new level. I love how the creators, who really know their source materials, now take liberty to generate even bigger world and storyline for us to explore while remain faithful to the original story (which is extremely hard tbh, that's why I'm so impressed).
Bottom line, this era of Harry Potter games are in good hands now. Kudos to the devs and everyone working there. Very well done! 👏

I mean it’s not too improbable that you could start Hogwarts during your 5th year, Hogwarts has always been non obligatory. You (or we) could come up with a scenario that you started late due to personal reasons, your parents trained you at home, or didn’t want you to go when you were 11 cause it was too dangerous, idk that’s just me, super hyped for the game!

I've personally always wondered about transferring schools in the wizarding world. I think it would be a very cool customisation if you get to choose what school you are transferring from and that decides your starting stats.
Honestly I'm really excited for this game and I'm glad JK had nothing to do with the creation or production of this game. It makes me really sad that a lot of the fandom has gotten to a point where you get judged for still being a fan of the series despite all the awful things JK has said and stood by saying. Unfortunately I have several IRL friends who are like this thinking it makes you a bad person for being excited about this game and not doing everything to not support the franchise or be a fan of the series as a whole anymore solely bc JK's a garbage person because there's never going to be a way to affect JK personally by one singular person refusing to buy merch or go to the Universal attraction or buy this game when it comes out. It makes me sad that there can't be a separation of still enjoying a series and its content while not agreeing with or approving of everything the creator's said or done, so I'm only hesitant to get this game because I know I'll get crap from my friends for spending money on it and playing it. But watching the trailer breakdown video was still really interesting bc it's clear the studio behind this game has put so much care into making this the best game possible even if we have to wait awhile for it.
