    No offense mate but NO you cant make bassline like that with simply software! That sound that Optical use to get on his basslines was purely from Analog clipping his Sequential Circuits synth directly into his analog mixing console. Whether you disagree or not mate, anyone will back me up when I say you cant emulate analog clipping on software (not humanly possible!). So yea mate, I do know what Im talking about as Im obsessed with that sound!

      Nothing, and i mean nothing, can EVER sound as good as the old analogue equipment. Digital has ruined everything.

    • @chakko007

      What is obviously hard to mimic is analog distortion and non-linearities. I wouldn't say nowadays productions are worse though, rather the opposite. They're a lot louder and fatter. But, hey, each to his like. And, it has nothing to do with the actual music and composing.
      This stuff and other stuff from the same era also are quite muddy when it comes to the bass. Much better and more "pro" sounding nowadays.

    • @WillyJunior
      @WillyJunior 6 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      an experienced producer can use distortion in a way that would make you think it was analog. It's fun to bang on about how you can never recreate analog sounds but that's getting less and less true with current software.

    Just amazing!! I can see why alot of labels back then would'nt have been on this level, probably due to the fact that no other producers were coming with beats this well produced & engineered! Its all about the breakdown into 2nd drop in my opinion!! The bassline switch up is just insane, something that cant be done on a laptop!! sorry kids, dont bother... its all about the hardware ;)

    Remember I drew ALL over this bout 6-7 years old when I 1st came round DNB & vinyl w JUST a pencil. Nothing too bad looking, but I’m still pissed that I did it. Years later, I decide to put the 2nd drop in a mix on my IG. I can’t actually understand for the life of me to like all the other remixes on this SPECIFIC original. The best executed original of a DNB tune ever imho

  • @marsensound
    @marsensound 12 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    Honestly, the fact that software is used so much nowadays isn't directly responsible for the way music has shifted... it does have to do with the fact that you can so easily over-produce stuff to sound all shiny and synthetic, but there's really no requirement. If you've got the songwriting ability, it's not about what you use, but how you use it. You can make original sounds with practically anything. Granted, really sick analog synth sounds are pretty hard to replicate a lot of the time.

    • @ShadowyFigure83
      @ShadowyFigure83  8 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      The modern Drum & Bass drums all sound so "Muted" & soulless. Hollow, empty, lacking of something important...
      (not all of it obvoiusly. But over-all it sounds very much like the newer generation have gone soft) "Safespace Drum & Bass" lol.
      I've got a DVD, regegade hardware, maybe, where one of the Cutting Room guys described Drum & Bass as "The New Punk" because of the energy, the anger, the ruff soundscapes ect"
      That's what's been lost & watered down.

    Techstep vs. Neurofunk?
    Ed Rush & Optical are DnB. So, *that means Netsky is also DnB* right?
    To me Netsky is the Liquid variant of DnB where it's very uplifting (specifically transcending) and can be seen as a very bright colored skies & a walkpath bridge over a neat pond that's not really pink but more so blue.
    So Techstep is darker DnB (remember the brief subgenre called Drumstep) and I guess Neurofunk is a very very specific type of techstep whether it's either seperated by vibe or how the drums and melodies are used, you tell me.
    For all I know is I have the following labeled - "Dubstep vs. DnB":
    - Drumstep vs. Dubstep Neurofunk
    at this point it's all a vibe sense thats' the easiest way to tell, because i'm not here calculating drum patterns next to my ant farm.

    • @jannawrocki6465
      @jannawrocki6465 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Neurofunk is generally dark too. Thing is techstep is practically dead subgenre of d&b since early 2000's and it was a precursor to neurofunk, which was called after its more melodic bassline that has a funky vibe to it. Great example of very first neurofunk tune is Ed Rush & Optical "Funktion". You can easily tell the difference by comparing this tune to anything from Ed Rush's "Torque" album which is a techstep classic.
      Basically, you can tell that neurofunk is the cleaner version of techstep because it use more smooth drum and synth samples, whereas techstep got more clinical atmosphere and raw processed drums as well as dirty reece basslines. It also got usually slower bpm than neurofunk - around 160-165.

    • @VladTheSour
      @VladTheSour 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      yeah, but you cannot name the modern dark dnb neurofunk, it's nothing funky about it anymore. I think the modern output of Audio, EdRush&Op, KillBox, BSE, etc etc etc is utter shit...only noise noise noise. I would call neurofunk/techstep inspired for example the latest KidDramaxDLRxUlteriorMotive release Dredger/Unforgiving. Both sides are belters.

    • @NFMHACKERS
      @NFMHACKERS 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @R. M it's not really about what you use, as much as how you use it. you could give a moron some expensive synths and a novation bass station and it would come out like trash. granted, these basslines do sound heavy and 'organic', but don't miss out on all the experimentation that's going on nowadays.
