    15:45 The whole time up to now I was saying to myself "I don't like that martini glass sitting right there in front of everything."

      Hahahaha… 😂 Right?

    I agree that the pawns and bishops look too similar. It would be ok on a regular board where you're looking across the pieces but in this game perspective is a big part of the visual experience.

      Agreed... especially when pieces are hiding underneath the smaller platforms.

    Thanks I liked this video don’t see anyone playing the game learned a lot

    It's not a party until something gets broken. Lol
    Really enjoyed watching and it taught me a lot.
    Thank you.

      That’s a good motto to live by! I’m glad you enjoyed it!

    I would love to see hikaru or a grandmaster play this. It's so much more technical.

      At first I thought you meant Hikaru Sulu! 😂

    The first mistake you made is that you put the pieces on the wrong board levels. White is always on the lower level and Black is always on the top level.

    • @ChamaelCorp
      @ChamaelCorp  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I wouldn’t call it a mistake. Which color sets up on which side doesn’t impact the game.
      An oversight when setting up? Yeah.

      In a practical sense playing informal game, sure, set up and play anyway you want. But as per 3D (and 2D) rules for pre game setup of the pieces, black Q on black square and white Q on white square, the white pieces would always start on the low board and the black pieces would always start on the high board.

    Just wanted to point out two things. You set up black and white on the wrong sides. Also a rule in set up that Carrie’s over from regular chess is that Queen gets its own color so your kings and queens started on the wrong squares.

    My intense focus on the game made me oblivious to my precariously placed martini glass until 15:46...

      I still maintain it was all part of your strategy to throw me off my game.
      It clearly worked.

    Standard Chess openings (AKA Sicilian, London, French, Queens Gambit, etc) do not seem to apply here. Are there possible "Openings" for Star Trek Tridimensional Chess? I think the attack boards make Openings less significant. Also the constricted 4X10 (+attack boards) format makes this a totally different game! IMHO

    • @ChamaelCorp
      @ChamaelCorp  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      While we are definitely not skilled enough to employ any opening strategies, I would agree. The constricted board does change how you play.

      @@ChamaelCorp I am thinking of constructing just a flat 4X10 chess board with attack boards and trying different "Opens" from a simplified version of Star Trek Chess... The tournament chess players tend to be kind of physical! The 3D Tridimensional chess board does not look like it is up to it... I do have one of these "Lynn R. Johnson Three Dimensional Chess" boards coming in the mail, but even though that is more sturdy, I still see the pieces falling off the board if Magnus Carlson were to play on it! IMHO

    • @ChamaelCorp

      Would be an interesting experiment! I’d be interested to hear about it 😊

      @@ChamaelCorp I tried drawing a 2D "Tridimensional Chess" board on a piece of card board. The placement of the King & Queen on the attack boards seems to be the most problematic aspect of Tridimensional chess. I have yet to really explore "openings" and "gambits". ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~. I am now thinking of a new 3D type chess game to explore the land, sea, & air aspects of battle. It would be an 8X10 board on top (AIR), an 8X8 board in the middle (land) and a 6X8 board on the bottom (sea). The new "Unicorn" piece in the Raumschach 3D chess from 1907 is interesting. But maybe there would be a PEGASUS for the AIR board, and a SEAHORSE for the SEA board? "SPACE" could be added some how... To me SPACE has theological aspects, so it would have a SKY PILOT(evangelist? Prophet? Angel? Star?) piece. A SKY PILOT piece would add or subtract strength from other pieces from the AIR board some how... Then there is MEDIA... I don't know how media, and propaganda, would figure in to any battle...
      It seems that all the attempts at 3D chess started out trying to add an AIR & SEA element to traditional chess, but ended up getting lost in some new, cartesian structure... Star Trek Tridimensional chess is better.... But it started out as a prop, and is still trying to get beyond being a display piece... It's pretty neat though! IMHO

    Good game! And when you said the fans say that you can only move the attack platform if a pawn is on, that is incorrect. You can move the board as long as you have at least one pice on it.

      Appreciate the rule clarification! Thank you!

    • @sanepete

      Not quite true.
      The rules used by the World Tri Dimensional Chess Federation, which has hosted large tournaments before now, only allows attack boards to move if occupied by a single pawn.
      The noble collection rules are derived from the original Bartmess rules but are ignored by most players as they were clearly cobbled together just to sell the board.
      With regard to the comment at 7:23, advancing all the pieces save the end pawn is no more difficult than in classical chess.
      Here are the official W3DCF rules:

    In the video you had the Queen and King on the wrong side. If you are facing the board with the white pieces in front of you on the lower level the King is on the right side and the Queen on the left. The King has a pointed top while the Queen has a dome shape.

    The more I think about it... the more I think you wouldn't be able to jump from platform to platform, because there is a break in squares. Just my thought, but again... you can homebrew this however works for you! There are no official rules!
