    Bought separately the tools, etc would cost $388.94 - so you save almost 23% buying the toolkit (and you get a free toolbox to store them in). Not a bad deal if you're starting from scratch. Not sure if I like including the book though. I have the book and it's OK - but as a new-ish mechanic myself I find Park Tool's own videos (and some other youtubers) much easier to follow.

    15 years ago, I decided to stop paying my LBS to tune up my bike and I spent the a few years worth of tune up fees on a (much earlier version) of this tool kit from Park Tool. I don't remember if it came with the BBB or if I bought that separate. It was a game changer for me. I tuned my bike much more often, and after the first 2 or 3 tune ups, I was better at it than my LBS mechanics (probably only because I was taking all the time do everything "just so"). I've added so many tools (mostly blue ones...) to that kit over the years that I need a full sized rolling tool chest to fit them all. Many thanks to Park Tool for a decade and half of rewarding evenings and weekends obsessing over my bikes. It all started with a Park Tool kit like this one.

    I’m sorry Park, I love your products, but I think AK-4, which included the Adjustable Torque Driver, was a better offering... and what self-respecting bike mechanic can own a toolset without the Park Tools bottle opener?
    BUT... I have the AK-4 kit, the quality is amazing and this replacement costs less since there’s no torque driver. I love what you do, Park Tools!

  • @jen3800

    i adore Park Tool, but this is not Advanced
    I only recently discovered that the reason my best attempts at repairing rear shifting may be because I need a DAG 2.2 to analyze the frame before If my attempts to adjust were to take more than 5 minutes. I am talking about beater bikes, not new.... Now my routine would include using that after said 5 minutes. After that I would proceed with normal adjustments. Next tool is the dropout alignment tool. then the full wheel building kit including TM1
    if I had all that I could really call myself advanced. Even then, there are loads of tools and there is so much to learn from PT tutorials that it would take an entire year for me to get close to advanced.
    Awesome channel, killer tools !
    baby steps. i will get there! i share all this with my clients !

    • @peterjv8748
      @peterjv8748 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      DAG is an essential tool but imo, old, entry level bikes don't benefit much at all by having perfectly straight derailleur hangers. If the hanger looks straight enough just by eye, I'd leave it alone and only try to reset it as one my last options to try and improve shifting. If it's obviously tweaked I'll straighten/replace. Higher end bikes (esp newer ones) benefit a-lot more from the hanger being perfectly true. again imo.

    • @Murgoh
      @Murgoh 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Agreed, I would rather call this a basic kit. A person moving to "advanced" category would already have most of these tools so no need to buy them again.

    Nice kit - it's taken me about 25 years to accumulate all of these plus some additional ones, and I'm sure it's cost me more than buying the kit. The obvious glaring omission is a torque wrench. I also have a couple of pedal wrenches, a truing stand and WAG for wheel building and truing, various bottom bracket and headset tools, including a bearing press, and a DAG.

    i wish Park Tool would do a video on tool maintenance ! you can't maintain a bike with the best tools in the world , AKA Park Tool if you do not maintain them. I am sure I am not the only guy out there to realize things like that need attention one bad day, when a tool you have not used in a while needs serious attention !treat those precious Park Tools like you would a bike ! I know from experience.
    Consider the bike stands. We use them to de -grease and wash bikes and all sorts of crud gets in there. inspects, clean, hit with rust buster and lubricate. remove and inspect quick releases on the stand . clean as needed and ensure everything is aligned. Oil your tools daily with a rag after every single use. then dry them off and store them properly.
    Please do this , Park Tool, those types of videos ! Maybe I missed them ?

    "crucial to have to installing the unique slotted nuts found on most front chainrings" Yeah, or you know a big flat headed screw driver like they where initially made to be used with.
    I love you guys at park tool I really do, your tools for lock rings and weird proprietary bolts and fixings and your wheel calibrating tools etc are all top notch, but that really feels like re designing the wheel you know!
    Plus you rubbed our faces in it and made a pizza cutter! I rip my pizza to shreds like a real man!

    I have some Park Tools, they're good quality, but I could put that toolkit together for a lot less than that. If I was going to spend $300 for a basic kit it would at least have a nice metal box. Of course, I just made my own chain whip tool for about $3.
