I genuinely envy Stephen because, as a friend to John, he gets to keep in touch with him.
I’m not pretending that just because I watch his show or have seen his public face that I know him but... I can’t help but feel like even if you genuinely got to know him there’s just something inherently _likable_ about him.
The no bullshit mentality, the willingness to call anyone and everyone out on their hypocrisy, the way he seems to legitimately care about others. I’d love to have a drink with this guy.

I would guess that Jon has the same idea at least part of the time. It's gotta be hard to have an outlet like he had and then go back to being quiet on his farm during the worst Presidential term in history. I believe Colbert when he jokes about drinking more. I think all of us need an outlet for the horrors we see on the news!

    • @samanthamay6714

Literally had the exact same thought. In the last week I found myself actually kinda longing for the days of Bush (he was simplistic, an idiot, ignorant, but not cruel...). I saw a Jon Stewart meme and I just really missed him, he had this ability to lessen the anxiety (in a way that connected with what he was saying, even though he had a team of writers behind him). I would be surprised and appalled if Trump wins 2020, I hope by now there are enough Republicans who actually hate him enough to vote for another candidate, and the democrats get their s**t together. Or maybe, there might be more than two distinct choices one day. Crazy thoughts....
(BTW, I am Australian, I don't even live in America, but the politics of the USA have this knock on effect around the world, so I feel that a bit).

Dani Kbob I'd go with Jon on this one, in that with Trump in charge, we're now "acting as an Axis power". Most likely because Putin's pulling the puppet strings, and wants us fighting with our allies, especially NATO. The more we're fighting with ourselves, the better he does.
I'm just glad Trump was so hamfisted in his machinations (particularly in his treatment of our intelligence agencies) that he triggered the Mueller investigation. Just wondering how much "foreign influence" rot it will expose in our political system (at this stage, I'm guessing it's a lot, can't wait for the clean-up process!).

Like the old white men in control of government and the Republican Party? How about the Parkland teens and Sandy Hook parents who were accused of being crisis actors as a counter example? No, the blame lies with the generation in power who is seeing it but is too scared to fix it. If you're calling for Millennials to do something besides protest and vote, you're asking for violence and assassination attempts. Very few Millennials are in positions of power. We haven't reached that point. Yet.

    • @caroline10081
      @caroline10081 6 ปีที่แล้ว

I'm just stating a fact by saying old white men are in charge. Look at the photos. It also does not have to be all or nothing. Power can and should be shared. Social media affected the last Presidential election. Its effect will only increase as people learn to harness its power. For all I know, you could be a real commentator. Or you could be a paid troll. That is where we're now. Some Millennials are billionaires because of social media.

I would like to see Venus Williams. Venus successfully negotiated women's equal pay across the Tennis tour internationally. She's internationally known and respected. White supremacists have hated for years and she can't be any more threatened than she already has. Jon Stewart makes a good top of the ticket because he knows his stuff. Let Colbert keep his current Platform until 2028 when he can run as Venus's VP or with Serena. Rosario Dawson is excellent on the campaign Trail too and could be a fine match up for the older Mr. Stewart.

Problem with the left is they shout bloody murder on everything good or bad from the right and defend the left no matter how bad. If you cry wolf so many times you are no longer listened too or respected. This was also the main power of Jon, he was pure comedy but above all he tried to be fair. Call out crazy bullshit of the left or right and applaud good things from the right or left.

This is the internet. Getting what was advertised is a surprise.

He is right but we cannot simply just not yield, we must stand up, band together and Fight. Fight by calling out politicians, fight by protecting our fellow Americans when we see racism, sexism and hatred in our streets, and Fight by voting in EVERY election. National politicians start at home, they start as councilmen, they start as state representatives, they start as Congress. Vote this November and EVERY election from here on out.

You are right, and it worries me that this response is not heard enough. Unless good people take back the system, by voting and making sure our voices are heard, no amount of outrage is going to make a difference.

Ilmenheru Terikson well, damn. That was... unexpected, and kind of illuminating. O.o Thank you for having the courage to share that...
I'll search it up later... I hope there's more to it than that, cause... well... when we've got nutbars advocating for ripping toddlers from the arms of people legally seeking asylum... I find it difficult to fathom that _you're_ the criminal one somehow, just over a tolk. God that seems like such a little thing weighed against the other... even if the law is the law is the law.
If you're legit, write some letters, see if anything comes of it (if you haven't already)? Who knows, maybe one of those appeals could net you a lead?

One of Tennyson's many great lines, ambiguous in its mix of exhaustion and aspiration -- an apt choice for these days when Trump's endless degradation of our democracy, his disregard for human compassion, his bigotries, and his sheer boorish awfulness as a person exhaust us, yet we cannot imagine ceding our nation to his fascist autocratic impulses. Too much is at stake.

Look the history of regimes like this. They do not stand and the people who supported them are shamed by their connection with them. You are on the wrong side of history and your children and grandchildren will be ashamed that you fell for the fear and hatred promoted by an obvious con-man. You aren't "Making America Great Again," you're rejecting every value that made America great in the first place. You will regret your support for this wanna-be dictator, but sadly not soon enough to stop the damage he will do. We will all suffer from your gullibility and fear.
