I was wondering how they pulled 7 bitplane-like effect in 4-bitplane mode (gird part). From comments on soundtrack I guess they were 'racing the beam' using timers... and I'm still puzzled. It should be limited by 4-pixel per memory cycle ratio, but it isn't.
