    Thanks so much, 3 years later! We had to remove and reinstall our microwave due to replacing cabinets damaged by a burst pipe. My husband installed the microwave last year, but he had forgotten one part of the installation. He found it around the 14-minute mark, and all is well. Surely appreciate it!

    Looking at replacing our built in microwave now. Watching this video was helpful. To tell the truth I'm not very happy with GE. Why can't we have a Stainless model that's built in capable? Frustrating that I now have to have a Gray faced microwave over my Stainless faced oven, even with the trim kit they still do not match. The LED display isn't even the same color! AND Why can't the new models be made to fit the existing trim kits, which would save so much time and hassle and save me from having to drill how many more holes into my cabinet! What will happen when I need to replace it again? there won't be any more room to drill new holes! And Lastly, with it being this big of a PITA, why does GE not even offer installation for these???

    Your sentiments at the 26 minute mark are summing my life up right now. Centered everything and it doesn't screw in.

    Thank you - two years later this is still quite useful. I saw what I needed in the first minute of the video. Once I knew how to remove the trim kit it was smooth sailing from there. Well done!

    Trim kit has 4 long screws in the corners that must be removed. Once the trim is removed, there are 4 short screws holding the mounting brackets to the cabinet. When these are removed, the microwave can slide out of the cabinet. Flip the microwave upside down and remove the brackets from the bottom of the microwave. there are two screws holding each of two brackets onto the bottom of the microwave. Attach the brackets to the base of the new microwave using the screws. Pay attention to the arrows on the brackets. they point towards the front of the machine. Once the brackets are on, the machine can be slid back into the cabinet and reattached with the short screws that were removed earlier. Replace the trim using the long screws. This is for microwave model pem31sf4ss and trim kit model jx827sf1ss.

    This could be my husband and I. We just put a new microwave and trim kit in. Note it is crazy that every time you put a new microwave in even if it is the same brand you have to buy a need trim kit $250. Minimum. This is the last one . I will make this hole cabinet space and buy a cheaper microwave and NO trim kit will be needed. Not going to this expense again or trouble at 75 years old.

    Pulled out my old microwave, and tried to install the PEB. Looks like I now have to cut my cabinets to add height to the microwave cut out. Why the fuck couldn’t GE just make the replacement microwave installation design consistent with the model it replaces? Sooo frustrating

    Thanks for this video! Your thoughts and sentiments were IDENTICAL to mine. I bought the same microwave and same trim kit. Tried to install today, was done in 30 mins and did it perfectly like you and the door rubs on the trim????? I tried realigning it. I took it all apart, did it again and got the same result. I guess they said it takes 3 hours because you also have to go and buy a dremel tool to adapt the trim to fit. COME ON GE!! Get your act together. This trim kit should work fine and you also could very easily keep the same trim kits for years. INstead, you keep changing up the microwaves just enough that when the thing breaks, and you buy a new one you have to buy another trim kit for an extra 250 bucks. AND it doesn’t fit the microwave. Frustrating.

    So the reason why you were having trouble is that this microwave (PES7227SLSS ) is NOT built in capable. Instead, you should have went with model PEB7227ANDD which is the correct model for a built in installation with this trim kit. The hinge is built differently between these two and is the reason why it rubs on the trim.
    GE designed these new built in microwaves with a dark glass front so that they match their wall ovens when installed above. Kind of shot themselves in the foot for people wanting an all stainless look with this form factor. The only solutions right now for keeping the all stainless look within the GE brand is either Profile model PEM31SFSS or Cafe model CEB515P2NSS. The Profile PEM31SFSS is a shorter microwave/trim overall and has only 1.1 cu.ft. internal space while the Cafe CEB515P2NSS is taller overall, has 1.5 cu.ft. internal space, and is much more expensive. Well, the PEB (the "B" means BLACK) is Black and we got rid of our Black appliances and went all stainless. The PES (the "S" means STAINLESS) is what I had to choose for that specific microwave - the GE Profile like the Black GE Profile it replaced. We did not want any other microwave, and had no idea that GE would eff the trim kit up like that. I give their test unit an "F".

    • @Joshc09
      @Joshc09 4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @@ClemsonTiger75 That is incorrect. The "B" stands for built in capability and the "S" stands for countertop only. This is per the GE nomenclature. The two letters at the end of any given GE model is for the color.

    • @ClemsonTiger75
      @ClemsonTiger75  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Joshc09 All I saw was that the PEB was only available in Black, so I could not choose it. I looked a long time and I even think the PEB was cheaper, but I never saw an option to select it in Stainless. Maybe I missed it. But the PES one sure sucks IMO.

    • @Joshc09
      @Joshc09 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@ClemsonTiger75 again, the hinge is different between the PEB and the PES models. The hinge on the PEB accommodates the trim kit and the hinge on the PES interferes with it. This is a design/asthetic choice GE made to not have a stainless microwave inside of the trim.

      @@Joshc09 I got the GE microwave over the range, can I put it into a built in? Thanks

    There was a lot of discussion about which model we chose. If anyone that states that we should have gone with the PEB model, please include a link showing a PEB model that is STAINLESS. We had a perfectly good BLACK one, and we changed out our BLACK for STAINLESS. I could never find a trace of a PEB anywhere that was STAINLESS. Since the PES model was ONLY available in STAINLESS and the PEB was ONLY available in BLACK, that is why I assumed the "B" meant BLACK ONLY, and the "S" meant STAINLESS ONLY. I will be glad to concede the argument once I see a PEB model in Stainless in the link that you provide.

      GE includes an easy to use filter on their website that allows you to sort by countertop, built in, over the range, etc...also by color.

    If the above listing of the model number is correct as shown (PES7227SLSS) and not a typo, then it is the wrong microwave to install as a built-in..
    In the article entitled "MICROWAVE - PEB7227 / PES7226 STAINLESS OR SLATE OPTION" from the GE website, it shows the correct model M/W as PEB7227SLSS. The article clearly states that "The PEB7227 microwave is intended to be built-in with a trim kit, rather than installed on the counter. While it can be used as a countertop model, the appearance and design makes it a better choice for built-in installations. . The trim kit will not work with the PES7227."
    The M/W model PEB7227 is intended for built-in installations only.
    This is why the gentleman in the video and @highpoint7625 had a problem with the door rubbing.
    I just installed M/W model PEB7227SLSS and its trim kit JX7230SLSS without any problem with the door rubbing.
    From reading product literature on these models, GE could sure do a better job in emphasizing with nice big font size whether it is countertop only or built in only and also the correct trim kit for a specific M/W model.
    I hope this info might help someone in the future.
