That doesn't make us bad people.
It just means we're too broke, because the capitalists that the workers are toiling for are in competition with the capitalists that are largely responsible (long side the bought federal government) for exporting our jobs.
Of course there are a billion other factors that exist in relation to the current situation.
      Gotta love trickle down.

Just one thing to remember folks. It's all well and good if you want to boycott Cort and their products for political reasons, but remember this. Boycotting Cort guitars puts Cort employees out of work, which also keeps food out of their refrigerators, and if children are involved that makes it worse.

You have a choice to buy apple products or not and you have the choice to buy clothing from companies with humane working conditions.
Smartphones, tablets are luxory items. If you are so broke, you could choose from a lot of budget phone makers or choose a regular phone.
Don't blame capitalism for your choices.

@@onpsxmember where do the "budget phones" come from then? same if not worse conditions for the workers. if all you can afford is cheap shit then you don't have the luxury of choosing a company based on their labor standards. the cheapest clothes & phones are produced through atrocious labor conditions. its perfectly reasonable to blame the structure of our economy that made this exploitation possible

These issues, while bad, are not limited to Cort, or Asian guitar builders. Most of the companies I have worked for (in Australia) are exactly the same. Minimum wage, employing people as "casual workers" so they don't have to pay penalty rates, unfair dismissals etc..the list goes on. I'm sure many of you have also worked for similar companies with similar attitudes. The Apple factory has been found to be far worse yet we buy their stuff without a thought for their workers, some goes for our TV's, Computers or any Chinese/Asian made product. We all want everything cheap, we're all to blame.

    • @impalax327

Yep, sadly universal. It's about profit no matter what. When the labour wakes up and realises they make a good product and should be paid more they close down and move to the next emerging economy and exploit those workers. Cort "ghost builds" many BIG name companies' guitars and it's those corporations that hide behind the exploitation world - wide.

I worked in a Honda factory in America. Literally, people would pass out on the production line and they would drag them off and yell at everyone to keep the line running. A guy died of a heart attack and they found him only a few hours later. I've worked at a DuPont warehouse and had two co-workers get crushed to death by their countertops.
This is the "norm", unfortunately. The working class are modern slaves. It doesn't matter what country you live in, what product you make. It's all the same. The overlords keep their foot on our neck while the machine chews us up and spits us out.
But at least I got that $4000.00 guitar that cost two months of my salary. And I'm in America. So basically and almost literally the same situation except in a different place. 90% of the world is experiencing this or worse.
Believe me, there is no refuge, no dim-lit escape. Unless we're willing to let everything burn.

Do not mistake them for a Charity. They are not. Surviving in Business makes people and corporations extremely ruthless. They can always build a new factory and find some more Employees...
Consumers are at least partly to blame. They want everything as cheap as possible..

The main problem is not about working conditions actually. They're fired because Cort Korea factory bankrupted! :) And now they sue Cort and trying to collect some support for their case, telling some other unknown issues. Checking the net, I've read Ibanez stopped working with Cor-tek, Fender and some other brands still working. Why do you think long-time Korea manufacturing of Squier moved to Indonesia and China. If it wouldn't be cheaper in Asia, Fender would choose tho produce them

I'm seeing a lot of people making some fucked up comments, and a lot of people who are smart enough to actually see the serious social issues behind this video. These workers are working hard at their job because they can't afford to lose it, yet the large corporations somehow believe that denying their workers of basic human rights is a just decision (especially when it's maximizing their profit). As fellow human beings, is it not our job to care for one another? Or are we going to buy into it, shoving the idea out of our head because we have convinced ourselves that, because we are not directly committing these heinous acts against human rights, we are not doing anything wrong. These people are reaching out to us. Are you going to ignore their plea for help?

Many companies are, but most companies aren't set up to provide as much as possible to their employees. It's just a fact of life, and the place to go to change that is the governments where the companies operate. Going direct to us with labor disputes, we'll never know enough to form an opinion.
I worked in a cabinet factory for the equivalent of $11 an hour when I was in college. People there worked at a pace you can't imagine, and with 500 employees, you only did one narrow thing over and over all day and down the assembly line the cabinet went, the next one showing up behind it (and you'd better not get behind and slow down the line - the rest of the employees knew a stopped line was trouble and they'd come down on you).
It's the reality of working in production, or retail, or anything where the labor market isn't that competitive.
I also worked in a tile factory and would've killed to work at Cort for that same period of time. In a month and a half, I ingested endless amounts of dust and drove machines I never should've been on at speeds (trying to keep up) that nobody ever should've driven. They were overloaded and I was stacking multi-ton bins of ceramic dust without being trained to do it. I wish the workers well at Cort, but don't have any interest in forming a definitive opinion that in reality will just put them out of work completely. As in, if Cort makes a guitar in Korea and you boycott Cort, the workers are out of work. If they make a guitar in Korea and you demand improvement in labor standards that don't allow Cort to make any profit while selling low-cost guitars to greedy distributors, then those workers again will be out of work when Cort changes their factory location.
Guitar making (of the lower quality guitars, which are still quite good) is a dog eat dog business, and the biggest issue in all of it is consumer greed. Try to make a guitar yourself. It costs me $400 in materials to make a good telecaster style guitar. The wholesale price for a guitar like I'm making is below the cost of materials because consumers demand it. We all want something for nothing.
I personally have bought guitars in the multi-thousand dollar range many times, but not many people will do that. The people who say they will don't do what they say when nobody is looking.

Any factory is the same in every country, is what it is, its a job and its a company, never seen a company that cares about its employee's, though they ALL say they do but at the end of the day they will shit all over your life and not even give it a second thought , Like I said, it is what it is. (and I still love my Cort Panther)

what i dont understand is why if they can produce so much and keep the price low..why cant they produce enough food and housing so that those prices are low also..if prices of things are low then even if one has a low salary then they have enough money for what they need and to buy other cheap things. Much of the problem is that the governments create money to do what they want which causes the value of money to fall, and this hurts the workers who do not get an increase in their pay. It is a bigger problem when the government that is supposed to be working for the people actually works against the people.

I just purchased a Cort "Matt Guitar Murphy" the other day. Got it on eBay (about ten year old guitar, very nice condition) for only $198.00 plus shipping. The ONLY new guitars I ever purchased were: Gibson Les Paul Std, Gibson SG, Taylor 214CA, a few Tele and Strat copies, Raven West Strat, and Epiphone Les Paul. All my others (about 50 or more) were used gear.

I have bought some Chinese, Japanese, Mexican, USA and India instruments , I have not bought any Cort they just don't do it for me. And although we all wish for originality, damn man a lot of these copies are even better than the real thing, there's no denying Gibson & Fender have slacked in their workmanship, I love Dave Murray's black strat which I could never afford but I can make one if I buy the parts at lesser costs, that's a better option for me.If you and I like the playability of an instrument I'm pretty sure we'd buy it if we can afford it, the instrument market is flooded with fakes for at least 100 years if not more.

I sold my Cort for an Estaban, which I sold for a First Act, which I traded for a Daisy Rock. I traded in the Daisy Rock even for my latest guitar which is a Hexomorph Volcano. The Volcano utilizes a stunning Koa top and Tone Shaper circuitry and has a AAA flamed maple compound radius neck, a Jason Lollar 52T and Lindy Fralin Hybrid Blues pickups along with 4-way switching. I think I'll trade it back for another Cort. No wait, I won't.

Word "wage" can be confusing at times. You might be paid weekly there, (if that's what you mean by wage) But in Turkey, European countries, Arab countries and Asia, we all have it "monthly". There is no other word for getting to be paid monthly or at least she doesn't know that, so that's why she uses "wage" (I might be wrong about the statements, don't have time to search) I'll be glad if you confirm it.

I'm so happy I bought my new guitar!!! Made in INDONESIA and proud not made in USA. AS much as I support our economy and the quality of U.S made guitar I discovered the sweat shop conditions guitar factory workers go through in order to make you a $4000 guitar for a 1/4 of the price. It took blood sweat and tears from dozens of humans all ages, 80 hr weeks minimum wage, inadequate conditions U.S workers take for granted, working non stop getting fired for the smallest details. Respect what you got and DONT LOW-BALL foreign made products as they work their lives off for you just to survive in this fkd up world economy of supply and demand. Thats why I didnt buy an overpriced U.S made guitar.

that difference is not only because of the wood quality of course. At least half of that price change is because of what american, mexican and chinese workers have been paid. Cheaper guitar, usually less payment to workers. Working hours is not an issue here, cos they don't get paid for hours. Remember it's monthly...

Some of it might be. But it's very one sided. Just the other day on youtube, I saw a guy visit a factory in Indonesia that was probably Cort affiliated. It wasn't the open spaces one sees in America but it wasn't a hellhole either, and the workers seemed well, like your average manual labor workers. This video seems more about the two factories that Cort suddenly closed down without warning in the early 2000's.

    Actually, no.
If you work 40 hours a week (minimum amount to be considered full time).
At $7.25/hour (minimum wage in Iowa), one week's wages is $290.
Multiply that by four and you're at $1,160/month.
But I get your point. It's not that different. But maybe living in S. Korea costs more?
