Great interview. The writer/director of the film Allison Anders had a pretty traumatic upbringing. Her father abandoned the family when she was 4. She was gang raped at age 12. She moved to Los Angeles when she was 15 with her mom but had a mental breakdown and went to a psych ward. She was eventually placed in foster care. She was somehow able to get on her feet and earn a film degree from U.C.L.A. and shortly after graduating in 1986 she was living in Echo Park.
I was tripping out when I noticed Jesse Borrego who played El Duran was also the artist painter character in Blood in Blood Out.. knowhatimean jellybean??
That’s one thing that I’m curious to see will ever change. We definitely need more representation in Hollywood, but we also need different roles. They gives us the same roles over and over again.

I’m so damn tired of us being maids/cleaners and gardeners.
We’re the majority minority and haven’t moved as far as we should have by now.
