Over 85 years of Varty family history are tied to Londolozi and its legendary wildlife. Formerly a hunting concession for royalty and presidents, the owners underwent a fundamental shift of consciousness in the early 1970s. Renamed Londolozi, the Zulu word for 'protector of all living things', it became one of South Africa’s pioneering game reserves and through progressive conservation policies has placed itself firmly amongst the world’s leading safari destinations.
But what really sets Londolozi apart from other top reserves within the Sabi Sands is the remarkable relationship it enjoys with leopards. Typically the most elusive of Africa's large predators, leopards are more easily encountered at Londolozi than anywhere else on the continent. Three decades of research have built up a wealth of information about each individual, and over time these notoriously shy predators have become relaxed around the reserve’s game viewing vehicles and offer exceptional sightings.
