  • The Mercur, Utah cemetery, nestled in the Oquirrh Mountains, is a poignant remnant of the once-thriving mining town of Mercur. Established in the late 19th century during the height of Mercur's gold mining boom, the cemetery served as the final resting place for numerous miners and their families.
At its peak, Mercur was bustling with activity as prospectors flocked to the area, drawn by the promise of great wealth. However, as mining operations declined, the town's population dwindled, and by the early 20th century, Mercur had become a ghost town.
The cemetery stands as a testament to the past, with its weathered headstones and serene landscape offering a glimpse into the lives of those who lived in Mercur during its heyday. Today, the site is both a historical landmark and a place for reflection on a chapter of Utah's rich mining history.

It's not even close to the oldest cemetery in Utah. The oldest is in Salt Lake City (goes back to 1850).
