I explore Mercur Cemetery, The Oldest Cemetery in Utah!
The Mercur, Utah cemetery, nestled in the Oquirrh Mountains, is a poignant remnant of the once-thriving mining town of Mercur. Established in the late 19th century during the height of Mercur's gold mining boom, the cemetery served as the final resting place for numerous miners and their families.
At its peak, Mercur was bustling with activity as prospectors flocked to the area, drawn by the promise of great wealth. However, as mining operations declined, the town's population dwindled, and by the early 20th century, Mercur had become a ghost town.
The cemetery stands as a testament to the past, with its weathered headstones and serene landscape offering a glimpse into the lives of those who lived in Mercur during its heyday. Today, the site is both a historical landmark and a place for reflection on a chapter of Utah's rich mining history.

It's not even close to the oldest cemetery in Utah. The oldest is in Salt Lake City (goes back to 1850).
I still remember the first time I died.
I've never seen an uglier looking graveyard!

I love exploring places like this and wondering who lived there, what they did and what their lives were like. If walls could talk!
It's so peaceful, sombre, and interesting! If you're like me your imagination runs wild trying to imagine what life was like.
Yes, Large ' cities ' are the cause - of ' stress '. WE ARE MADE, TO BE ON THE ' LAND '. NOT bunched up, in a NOISY - POLLUTED /AIR CITY. ! '' each man, under his vine and fig tree ''. is WHAT WAS MEANT - FOR US. ! WHICH , is why, YOU become / feel / more ''...at P E A C E WITH YOURSELF '''. GET back , to the ' good 'ole days, of yesteryore......and get healthy, mentally and physically ! THEN,...stay that ' way '. Cities = the manmade curse, and all for what ? '' for the l o v e of money.......' cities = one , large very vast area, of GREED, FUELLED BY LUST .......for ' more '. And, the more $$$ people have, the less ' human ' they / we become - Thomas Jeffersons' quote (1 of many ) '' for the selfish spirit of Commerce ; there is NO homeland, NO feelings, NO compassion........ONLY GREED '' . Nothings' changed, in the last 6,000 years . Still the same , only now Technology , allows for ' instant gratification ', and social media = POISON of the human Spirit ! What'up~fantastic . Abandoned~🤩
So sad but so fascinating to see this. I spent so many fun days there as a kid in the late 80s-early 90s. Remembering when I finally worked up the courage to go down those two super-tall super-steep slides when I was 12, felt so proud of myself. But yeah, the last time I went there was when my ten-year-old was a toddler, and it was getting pretty run-down then. People hoped being bought by Seven Peaks would bring a face-lift or renovations, but it didn't happen. Just so many memories. I think I went to a birthday party there one year, must have been 10 or 11. This place and the 49th Street Galleria, kinda miss them both.

The Fish eye makes me a bit dizzy. Have you ever done any without it?
It's an action camera so it only has a wide lens. I will experiment with filming as we go but the majority of the clips will be with the action camera. It's small, lightweight, and provides a first-person viewpoint which is what I like. I will experiment with other cameras as I go along though. I appreciate the feedback!
