    SUMMARY
-People who experience sleep paralysis wake up when they are still caught in the REM sleep cycle. This is the reason why they are awake and mostly conscious but unable to move or speak. Their muscles haven't received that important signal from the brain that can let them move freely.
-You don't have any control over your body. You feel like you can't breathe and you can’t speak. Hallucinations can be spine-chilling.
-Sleep deprivation and altered patterns of sleep trigger sleep paralysis. Eating heavy, fatty, or sugary meals before going to bed can also trigger sleep paralysis. Sometimes this condition can be caused by something as simple as sleeping on your back. People with such psychological conditions as bipolar disorder can have problems with sleep paralysis. Even leg cramps that occur at night can worsen the situation.
-Children and adults from 10 to 25 years old and people with mental disorders such as PTSD, depression, or anxiety are at a higher risk of experiencing sleep paralysis.
-To keep sleep paralysis away, first of all, get enough sleep. Try not to have big meals in the evening. Try chamomile tea. Meditation has a similar calming effect. Don't use any gadgets for at least an hour before going to bed.

Completely helpless. I used to be terrified of going to bed when I was younger and stayed up so late every night to avoid it.

I have experienced it one time..
Sleeping on my back next to my wife I woke up one night and could not move, I could clearly see my wife lying next to me. As i rolled my eyes to the other side of the bed i could see what appeared to be a dark figure standing next to the foot of the bed.
The figure was blocking out the small amount of light that was in the room. I couldn't make out any details on the figure, but could tell something or someone was there.
First thing that went through my head was someone had broken into our house. I tried to scream to my wife to warn her but, could not move or speak. As my eyes rolled back to the dark figure it was closer to me. The figure felt like it reached out and poked me in the chest, it felt like when someone pokes you with 2 fingers in the chest. About 2 minutes later I could finally move my body. I jumped up cut all the lights on, woke up my wife and told her that someone was in our bedroom. I searched the whole house and found nothing out of the ordinary.
It wasn't until years later that I learned about sleep paralysis.
It hasn't happened again since that night...
    Very spooky..

I have experienced sleep paralysis many times before. I don't remember when or why it started but I completely believe in the spiritual side of things.
I recently experienced it whilst sleeping on my side, not on my back.
I could hear "somebody" rattling with my bags, and I felt them climb onto the bed, slowly crawling up behind me, step by step.
Once it was close enough, I felt the whole bed move, like it was constantly wobbling.
This probably lasted around 2-3 minutes, and it happened within an hour of me trying to fall asleep.
The annoying thing is, it was just after a dream where I was "swimming" outside of my bedroom. I was calling out to my partner who was sitting in the lounge with the door closed. Of course he couldn't hear me, and because the water current was pushing me further and further away, I wasn't even close to opening the door. I was frightened of where this current was taking me.
As I "woke up", thats when the paralysis occurred. After it faded away, I couldn't find the strength to actually go to see my partner, and I felt the tears run down my face. I fell asleep afterwards and told him about it the following day

I used to experience this whilst sleeping on my back and ever since then I always had to remind myself to sleep on my side. and I really thought that it was just a science thing like this video for example. but then things got really messed up, it didn't matter if i slept on my side or not i would still experience it, only this time I would start to see things that were beyond me. I would even hear screaming. and no matter how hard i tried to get up it was just impossible. I still experience sleep paralysis till this day and some people may think its just your brain reacting differently but these something sinister behind this.

@@s_a_s_h_a_.__I got sleep paralysis two days back while sleeping sideways. It was preceded by loud vibrations followed by something heavy lying on me for a few minutes. After that I changed my bed for a sofa in the hall where I slept for an hour or so but again felt someone trying to hold and pick me from behind like a wrestler move. I can't explain why it happened nor does this video. I think science has limitations and this is something else.

So interesting. My personal experience with sleep paralysis was in 2020 when the pandemic had really started effecting everyone’s lives dramatically. I didn’t see any demons or shadows like others have explained, but when I woke up my eyes shot open wide, I couldn’t move and was gasping for air, my heart was pounding fast, I immediately panicked in my head and tried to say my fiancés name but couldn’t get any words out. I thought I was paralyzed and that induced more panic, after idk how long I came out of it and starting bawling. I will say it was out of the normal for me to have panic attacks and a unhealthy sleep schedule but during that time I did have a lot in 2020 from the pandemic I believe that triggered the sleep paralysis

Yeah exactly true! Altering of sleep shift or deprivation of sleep causes sleep paralysis. Today i experienced twice sleep paralysis within 6 hours of sleep from 3: oo am( At night) to 10: 00 am( at morning) because i altered my sleep routine recently . I used to sleep before 12 o clock. So the same thing sleep paralysis happened with me twice one by one after 2 hours.. At first sleep paralysis; i felt a very sever burden or weight over my thighs( i mean feeling weight below my bellybutton upto my legs) , my eyes were closed, i couldn't move my hands toes or feet. I was struggling and finally after 15 seconds i woke up .. Because i was feeling really sleepy so after 10 mints again i slept. Exactly in the same fashion the same sleep paralysis again happened with me after 1 hour sleep, feeling severe burden over my thighs then again woke up after 20 seconds of sleep paralysis. Thanks i didn't hallucinated or saw the demons in front of me which is the severe form of sleep paralysis!!!

+Jane Woodwards I just had a similar experience. The night before last I awoke to see a head/face about ten inches from my face floating above/beside me. The face had stereotypical alien like features and appeared to be female with dark eyes and a thin nose with hair pulled back - its expression was definite, but did not seem human or readable. I don't recall there being any body attached to the head. I looked at the face and it was looking deep into my eyes. I closed my eyes hoping I was having a dream, but when I consciously reopened my eyes my visitor was still very much there. At this point I freaked and pushed it away from me, so I was able to move my arm. This caused it to travel upwards where it stabilised just before hitting the ceiling and then continued watching me for a few more seconds before disappearing. The experience seemed very real, so I can imagine how you must feel - particularly as your presence is not so innocuous.

I've had them my whole life. Don't scare me as much as they did before, but still makes me feel uneasy seeing and hearing things that aren't there. For anyone who wants to get out of it when it's happening just breathe in and out of your nose rapidly. You'll be awake in 2 seconds.

I just had 2 SP’s in a row. I’ve experienced them since childhood and they only happen when I accidentally fall asleep in a sitting position. I’ve conditioned myself to get through them by yelling in my mind “wake up, wake up, wake up!”…over and over again. Unfortunately, for whatever reason, the first one ends but I never fully recover before another one hits. After the second one I finally wake up. During the paralysis I can’t breath or move and I feel intense, horrible pain in my back and neck and my lungs burn. I’m completely wide awake and suffocating. But I focus on knowing I’ll wake up soon and just keep focusing on the words “wake up!” It is a very unpleasant experience.

The first time I had sleep paralysis was when I was 12 and it started with a tingling feeling that started at my toes and when it reached my face my eyes jolted open all the shadows in my room look like they came to life and I immediately knew what it was and I was terrified because I just read the Dear David story a couple nights before. I was terrified and tried to scream for my mom but I couldn’t move my eyes were going everywhere and I was panicking. I closed my eyes and started praying. It felt like it would never end but when it did I didn’t bother to tell my mom until the next day. The second scariest thing that has ever happened to me and I still have it every so often and it is still terrifying but the first time it happens is definitely the scariest

When I was about 3 or 4, I remember “waking up” in the middle of the night. My room seemed normal. But I could only move my eyes. I looked over to the door and it opened. A creature with blacked out eyes and a gaping mouth walked into the room. I tried to scream but nothing but air came out. It ended up staring down upon me. I could feel myself physically crying and trying to call for my mum. After a while of this, I fell back asleep and never forget about it. It’s scared me so bad that I sometimes get scared that I’ll have the same dream so it prevents me from getting the extra couple of hours of sleep. And it’s hard to believe that I could remember that from a young age but it literally scared the shot out of me and I am scarred. It changed me forever. I hope nobody has had that at that age.

I have it every night and its not that bad if you know how to deal with it.
Now, i dont know if it works for others, but when i notice that i can't move and have trouble breathing, i just try to relax. That helps preventing the scary part in most cases.
Now, if you manage to relax during the scary part you can still get your brain back to sleep and wake up normally.
