Gabriel Fauré : Élégie for cello and piano (Pierre Fontenelle / Marie Datcharry)

- I had severely underestimated how difficult it is to play Gabriel Fauré's Élégie convincingly. Two examples : Fauré asks for "Molto Adagio", though cellist and pianist should naturally try and create an endlessly flowing sensation throughout the whole piece. The opening cantilena is played four times throughout the whole piece, and each iteration should naturally conjure up a vastly different emotional soundscape (the tragic and traumatic first outburst, the stiffled second supplication, etc.)... One can't simply understand Fauré's emotions, one has to truly feel them (harder said than done!).

Marie Datcharry : Piano

Formidable. Very well played. Very moving too.
staggeringly sad and so beautiful - a legendary performance Faure would have loved it - the great tendency is to overdramatize this piece - you let the music speak maestro -no theatrical flourishes - it remains overwhelmingly sad and absolutely musical BRAVO maestros.
Magnifique. Et le bonheur de les écouter dans la chapelle des Ateliers des Fucam. Que du bonheur. Merci.
@2:48 God i love Faure, and Ravel...But no one does what Faure does here....ecstatic, and your interplay is so tender, like lovers...
my! i just listened to 3 other professional cellists of repute, and for me, this is the best....i love the warmth, sensuous tone , but especially the slower pace, and that the pianist plays with such great reserve, no banging at the beginning. Bravo!!
I had to listen to your performance again it is so amazing an that final open C string - who could not be so moved.
I feel like the Cello is a tragically unutilized instrument when it comes to solo works. Stunning.
I heard this live a few days ago and I’m enraptured with the Beaty of this piece. This is definitely the best recording I have found. Thank you 🙏
My favorite interpretation of this piece, and the reverb makes it even more impactful. A lot of versions rush this piece, especially the most impactful parts.
yes!
Bonne continuation.
This is amazing, and beautifully performed. Thank you!
Sublime...
MERCI pour ce très beau moment musical
Absolutely beautiful! Awesome performance!! Bravo!!
ああ、とても抑圧された美しい音から滲み出る悲哀と甘美。なんてつややかな音色なんだ…
So handsome😍
You made my heart melt ! So beautiful
What a charming comment from a charming young man 😆
beautiful!
Magnifique...
De toute beauté ! Bravo à tous deux !
Tres beau
Trop chouette:)))
I’m too distracted by the glasses 😭
Just HORRIBLE.
How so?
It wasn't though. You don't know what you're talking about.
beautiful, beautiful
WoW. C’est tellement beau ! Émouvant. Superbe. Merci.
