  • Designing and building my own tiered, indoor plant stand for a windowsill plant/succulent area.
I moved all of my plants to a windowsill a while back with the intention of starting a really nice plant area. Instead, my favorite plant died, the new spot was harder to maintain, and I couldn’t ever seem to find the right plant stand/set up. Shortly after that, my replacement favorite plant died and, clearly by the state of the “plant corner,” I gave up for a bit.
Recently, however, I’ve been working on my confidence with using different power tools and was inspired to try making my very own plant stand. I wanted something that would fit on the windowsill and not be visually intrusive but still have room to hold my watering can and plants.
I took some measurements and used SketchUp to create a 3D model of what I wanted to build. I also tried to use common wood sizes to keep the cuts simple and to design something that could be built with the tools we already had. There was a lot of trial and error involved but I learned a lot during this process. Although there’s room for improvement, I’m really proud of the results.
    Main Supplies Used:
    1” x 2” - 8ft Select pine boards
    ¾” x 36” - Square dowels
    1” x 12” - 8ft Common board
    Titebond III Ultimate Wood Glue
DAP Plastic Wood All Purpose Wood Filler (Natural)
    easyLiner Clear Classic Shelf Liner
    Measurements:
The overall size of my plant stand ended up being about 30 ½” tall, 14 ½” wide, and 11 ¼” deep.
