DIY Mosaic Tabletop Using LEFTOVER Floor Tile Samples and GLITTER Grout | Side Table Makeover
Experimenting with glitter grout additive and breaking up forgotten floor tile samples, leftover from a past home renovation project, to create a floral mosaic design on the top of a round metal accent/tray table.
I often find myself with a variety of leftover materials following renovation projects and instead of letting them go to waste I like to try to find a creative use for them. In this video, I take my renovation leftovers to a new level.
After forgetting to return some FULL-SIZE floor tile samples and moving them out of my way for the millionth time, I decided to get creative and turn my “oversized doorstops” into something functional and beautiful. I’ve always wanted to try mosaics, so this seemed like the perfect time to makeover an existing table by adding a mosaic design on the top. This also gave me a great excuse to finally try glitter grout!
This project, like most of my others, involved a bit of trial and error and learning experiences. My main takeaway though is to make sure the tiles are installed level. I started with small tools and less adhesive since they were small pieces, but the varied thickness of the large floor tiles made them come out unlevel. I didn’t notice this was happening until I was almost done. Switching to a bigger notched trowel and more adhesive made a huge difference.
I also discovered that tile adhesive is harder to remove from tile surfaces than I thought. Although I tried not to, once I realized they were unlevel, I got a lot of adhesive on the tiles trying to readjust them. I figured I’d deal with the extra clean up later, but I won’t be making that mistake again…
Aside from that, this was an extremely fun and rewarding project! I’m also happy to report that the glitter is very visible in real life. I hope you enjoy this video, and it inspires you to look at leftover materials in a new light! Thanks for watching! ❤️

TRIMMING hollow core DOOR HEIGHT after new tile FLOOR INSTALL to allow carpet/rug clearance
มุมมอง 3.4K2 ปีที่แล้ว
Resizing an interior hollow core door by trimming the bottom side to compensate for increased height of new tile flooring and provide additional clearance to stop door from catching on bathroom rug. When placing a rug (bought incredibly far in advance) after a lengthy renovation process, I realized the new tile flooring was considerably taller than the previous flooring and the smaller gap unde...
Giving My Sad Excuse of a Plant Corner a MAJOR Makeover | DIY Wooden Indoor Plant Stand/Shelf
มุมมอง 4062 ปีที่แล้ว
Designing and building my own tiered, indoor plant stand for a windowsill plant/succulent area. I moved all of my plants to a windowsill a while back with the intention of starting a really nice plant area. Instead, my favorite plant died, the new spot was harder to maintain, and I couldn’t ever seem to find the right plant stand/set up. Shortly after that, my replacement favorite plant died an...
DIY Mirror Frame | Transforming an OLD Bathroom Mirror with a DIY Wood Frame
มุมมอง 34K2 ปีที่แล้ว
Updating the look of an old, frameless, bathroom mirror with a simple wooden frame. As with many other parts of our bathroom renovation, we faced the decision again of either replacing or attempting to update something ourselves. The existing mirror had a lot of scratches, discoloration, old decals, and a good amount of desilvering. Luckily most of the damage was located around the edges of the...
Transforming OLD Bathroom Cabinets to NEW SHAKER STYLE Cabinets | DIY FAUX Shaker Doors | NO Router
มุมมอง 78K3 ปีที่แล้ว
Modernizing the look of our bathroom by updating cabinet doors and drawers to a shaker style look with limited tools and budget. During our bathroom renovation, we explored various ideas to transform the existing cabinets. We considered having them redone or replaced but I was intrigued by what we could change on our own while saving money in the process. Since they were so old, we really didn’...
Using Leftover House Paint for Art | Cloud Painting Time Lapse
มุมมอง 2043 ปีที่แล้ว
Making use of leftover house paint from a bathroom renovation by painting a picture of clouds on canvas. A video of the renovation project that resulted in the extra paint will be COMING SOON! So don’t forget to subscribe or check back in to see it! : ) Renovations usually end with a few extra supplies, but a mix up involving cabinet paint during our bathroom renovation resulted in an excess of...
Fix/Disguise a Miscut or Broken Tile Without Replacing It | DIY Tile Repair
มุมมอง 4K3 ปีที่แล้ว
Used a tile repair kit and scrap tile to fix/disguise a miscut floor tile near the base of a toilet. After installing new tile floor in our bathroom and while reinstalling the toilet, we discovered there was a miscut tile behind the toilet. While researching possible solutions, I couldn’t find much on my specific problem. A lot of what I found on tile installation mistakes or damage involved re...
Repairing Torn Drywall Paper Damaged from Countertop Removal
มุมมอง 3.7K3 ปีที่แล้ว
Repairing damaged/torn drywall after countertop and side splash removal ripped into the brown drywall paper underneath. After removing old side splashes from a bathroom counter and tearing the drywall, I needed to repair and seal the exposed area before installing a new countertop as well as smooth the gouges that would show above the new side splashes. This project seemed intimidating at first...
Fix OVERCUT Door Frame GAP at Base of Door Jamb/Casing with WOOD FILLER
มุมมอง 176K3 ปีที่แล้ว
Used wood filler to fix gap between door frame and floor from overcut door jamb and casing after new tile floor installation. After installing new tile, one of the door frames ended up being overcut at the bottom. This created a significant gap between the frame and the floor that was a bit too big to fill with just caulk. After a lot of searching and not finding very many tried and true soluti...
Question... if you filled it completely with wood filler, how was the gap created where you slid the tape under?
Your a lifesaver. I have same cabinets w the stips. Excellwnt. Ty ty ty😊
Wow! I agree with many of the other commenters...best job I've seen on You Tube for this type of repair. A bit amuzing that several people were giving you advice. Not needed. Perfection.
What did you do for the actual door now being high ?
This video was so helpful! What did you lay down to create the tiny gap under the wood putty?
Plastic wood filler, took 10 minutes, then sanded painted, undetectable
I cut all these pieces and glue them in then spackle and sand. I always have scrap 1x wood around for the jamb and door stop and try to have scrap trim for casing, this was also the basic colonial trim that you can buy for cheap everywhere. Very easy if you do trim carpentry, if not use the plastic wood.
Not bad 👍🏽just remember folks to always prime your raw materials first before painting. This includes, drywall, brick, concrete, wood, bondo, wood fillers, spackle etc. No paint and primer in one will not do the trick.
Love the video! Very helpful. To calm my anxiety, did you use any special blade on the circular saw or just the standard one that came with the saw?
But what do I do if the trim is oak, and have hardwood floors?
How much would you charge for this service?
Awesome! Thanks for sharing. Be safe.
Great example and logical use of materials. Thank you
Thank you so much! 😄 You’re welcome!
1:02 is giving infomercial 😂😂 i seriously laughed out loud! Super cute use of the tile!! Love the glitter ✨
Thank you so much!!😁I’m glad you liked it!!💖
No gloves would’ve been a power move.
Okay that's one. Now the 15 other jambs in my house...
Thank you!! So helpful
You're welcome! Glad it was helpful! 😄
This was top tier 😊
Thank you! 😄
Whats going to be your next project?
I ❤️ it Thank you. Great job 👍
You're so welcome! I'm glad you liked it! 😄Thank you!
So much better ❤❤
Thank you! 😊
Where did u get thoese noodle things amd how thick are they?
I got them from Home Depot and they're 1/2 inch thick! They're called, Frost King Poly Foam Caulk Saver (1/2 in Diameter x 20 ft Long)
Thank you for this !
You're welcome! :)
Thank you for sharing every single step! This was awesome! I am going to redo my bathroom cabinets and this is going to be very helpful.
You're so welcome! Thank you! I'm so glad to hear that! I hope everything went great or goes great if you haven't done them yet! 😁
I am going to try this, never thought about MDF thank you!!!
The frame sits about a quarter inch off the wall, right? (Whatever the thickness of the mirror is). That gap is obviously not visible along the sides and the bottom but is probably visible along the top. Does it look Ok along the top? A “real” framed mirror would have all its edges sit flush against the wall…
Who is looking from the top other than someone 7' tall?
How has it held up so far? Any cracks?
nice job
Thank you!
Looks good I’m just glad to see this is a way to recycle those old cabinet instead of send them to woods recycle to be grind or even land field
Bondo also works well and hardens quickly.
That's useful to know! Thank you!
I find bondo for wood sands easier.
This is exactly what I want to do in my kitchen. So much more affordable and gives me something to do.
me too!
Me too. I am going to start from bathrooms First and get my hands set. Freaking inflation… everything is so damn expensive
Thank u for this video!! But i wonder if yiu can change the hinges to a soft close one on this type of door :|
Looks pretty! What kind of glue did you use?
Thank you! I used Loctite Power Grab All Purpose Interior Construction Adhesive!
Great video! How did it hold up over time?
Thank you!!
You're welcome!!
Shout out to your dad who did all the work
What’s with the music?..
Tysm for showing us this! Been looking all over for something similar bc i hate all the detailing in our bathroom cabinets! They get so dirty and are difficult to clean! 😭 I am hoping i can use my same cabinet doors and that i can make them just straight up *flat* and repaint with easy cleanup kind of paint 😅. Sounds like a lot to ask for but I'm hoping!! 🤞
I did this with my kitchen as well. Came to watch a video because I kinda miss having a diy project lol. But just a tip for anyone doing this: strip the paint and sand the doors/drawers before you attach the shaker trim pieces. That way you’re not having to do it all by hand to get into the corners or tight spaces. 😊
Use putty first, wipe it back slightly, skim coat with caulk, move on quicker.
Your work is second to none may God continue to bless you and your family outstanding job
I need to do the same exact thing on about 10 door jambs but the problem is it's on top of floating floor so I can't clock it to the floating floor at the end of the fix nor can I have it super tight since the flooring needs to move
@jcallesano can I ask why with floating floors it can’t contact directly? I don’t understand why the floor needs to move.
@tamerachan7462 expansion and contraction if you do not give this type of flooring room to move you've made potentially wake up to a buckled floor
We got a new house and the room with picked for our son to have has this terrible gap space near his closet. This will definitely help fix it. Thank you!!!
Is the top of the frame uneven because of the clips?
This is what I’ve been looking for! Awesome transformation.
Brilliant. Glad I wasn't the first person who was gonna try this. Looks great and I'll proceed.
Very nice
Thank you!
Very well done video-thanks for the inspiration!
Thank you! 😄 You're so welcome!
That turned out great!
Thank you! 😄
