Had one of these running a 50 Kw generator at a mine I worked at when I was young. Every morning I got to start that beast. Never gave a lick of trouble, ever.
Trabalhei com uma moto niveladora com um motor tipo esse , uma Patrol Trojam modelo MD , vendi a mesma em 2015 funcionando . Existe até hoje em minha cidade . Motor de quatro cilindros .
would like to have one of these with a lever to switch from compressor to generator. It is already a large unit, could imagine having a genset on this also. Would have to be a large unit but you could easily turbocharge it for less fuel consumption or even better would add a wood gassifier and no turbo. This engine really runs sweet. Would be the ultimate survival power source for your whole farm. Would take you 20 minutes just to get everything running and fill a hundred gallon air tank to 150psi, and have a 35kw genset.
When I was about eight or nine years old my neighbor, best friend’s father acquired a TD6 that started on gas. We quickly found out that it had no power on gas ,but on diesel it ran fine.
No it was made like that because electric starters were really just in their infancy. Nothing was really powerful enough to spin the diesel on its own.
the gas side has a small "anti chamber" that contains the gas ignition stuff, that is then sealed off when switched over, so the plugs dont meet the diesel.
The spark plugs are in the upper chambers behind the starting valves. To start on gas, there are small valves that open up chambers to enlarge the combustion chamber and lower the compression ratio to start on gas. It is in these upper chambers the spark plugs are located. So when in high compression, the starting valves close and that conceals the spark plugs.
They did make a UD-16. The UD-18 is the 6 cylinder version of the UD-14, and the UD-16 is the 6 cylinder version of the UD-9. They also made a UD-525 which is the 6 cylinder version of the UD-350. The D350 engine is found in Super WD-9, 600, and 650 tractors as well as the TD-9 91 series.
@@tyfrank3427 Just out of curiosity my Grandfather owned a Steel Erection company when i was little and he had a TD-24 Dozer.Would this have been the same engine that powered it..?

Thats a really cool engine
I finally understand how that works. Thanks!

Wery smooth & nice Sound 👍
That's the coolest shit I've seen all week

The gasoline side is for starting only. They aren't designed to operate on gas.
How physically big is it? Wondering if one will fit in a truck, if it's a similar size to a dt466 it would be awesome in an old international truck
Didn’t these motor become Dresser Heavy Equipment later on? Thought the early Dresser’s started like this?
Awesome 👍
one of the best sounding engine's , i wish i could build a small version on my Dnepr :D
Amazing.
Was it built like that to be able to start in very cold conditions ?
No it was made like that because electric starters were really just in their infancy. Nothing was really powerful enough to spin the diesel on its own.
want to sell it?
Do you still have this engine?
Interesting. Running it on diesel doesn't foul the plugs for when it goes back on gas?

Whoa, around 2:20 I thought I was on acid.
Wow
👍👍👍🤛🤛🤛
iv heard about these that thing is fuckin cool tho!! I'll definitely b setting up a few ebay watches
That's definitely a ud18, they never made a 16, it's the same engine thats in a td18 crawler. 692 ci
Yes they did make a UD 16, look here: th-cam.com/video/aCq_Be6p1t0/w-d-xo.html at 1:40

UD 18
Its ud 18 not 16 i have one some one put in a td18
Sir, it really is a 16 or 525 or 554. The 18 injector pump is set back from the front gear train and driven by an exposed shaft.
Put that in an M farmall
