"They were all bigger than Edward." That line makes more sense in the Railway Series books as Thomas and James weren't introduced yet all the engines in the book are tender engines that are all bigger than Edward

2:31 the original railway series books didn't introduce Thomas at that point so Edward was indeed the smallest engine of the bunch 2:55 Edward's whistle is out of tune 4:48 this is because the original shot was too short for the scene, originally they just made a fade to a different point of the emerging steam, but on the restored version they just played the missin bit backwards 7:00 the left red stripe on henry's cilinder is pealing away 7:52 the steam generator is still going after Thomas leaves and you can clearly see where the steam comes from as a result 8:29 Sir Topham's mouth is pealing away at the very right end (you can see it because of the shadow) 10:34 as a result of the metal rod the trailing wheels don't move while the driving wheels do 14:16 and 14:18 the people teleport from being right in front of the ticket room to way back near the edge of the station floor 15:05 this one is very particular because the set that you see where Thomas stops at the signal is only used once, ever, never to be seen again, in this part of the episode, the reason is unclear as to why they changed it, because the original scene took place in the set that we usually see, so the set in the shot where Thomas is zoomed in 20:35 the track layout makes no sense whatsoever 22:41 i don't know if it's only this shot but Gordon's cilinder is chipped 22:46 the original story wasn't interpreted properly, what actually happed is that gordon was in deed rushing towards percy, but the driver and fireman didn't just jump out, they tried to reverse Percy but because it wasn't quick enough that they jumped out, by the time Gordon put on the brakes Percy already started to move slowly backwards and was out of the way, ), that's why Gordon thanks Percy at the end; by the time Gordon stopped Percy was out of reach for the driver and fireman and BECAME a Runaway (so this means that he didn't runaway only because he was scared) 23:06 BIG OOF an outtake was used, in the original scene henry did rest on the siding (without ramming through the station wall) and edward moved to take charge of the train 23:54 this is due to the fact that they had limited budget at the time so many coaches are painted so one side is tan and the other is regular, this explains why coaches in many episodes are very often flipped (aka the break coaches or annie and clarabel) 24:37 the left red stripe on henry's cilinder is pealing away 24:50 the edge of the set is still visible but is not so bad like the very first episode of the season 25:25 Henry rams through a bush, you can make it out if you look at the right side just above the bridge 27:47 bottom right corner there's visibile camera lens radius I suppose? 28:34 Gordon's tender is badly derailed 30:42 I wouldn't consider this as a goof just a limitation, the lights are out of scale with the props
Most of these goofs can be attributed to the fact that they used heavy amounts of stock footage in the first season. When production was underway, they didn't have much in the way of budget, so they had to make due with what they had, which even included conserving camera film by reusing stock footage. Thankfully, this series' success would allow for a larger budget in the next season.
The wonky eyes are the most common goof in the model series, I guess they got so obvious they to transition to CGI, and I don’t blame them, but maybe a bit more model series would have been great.
A good number of the studio equipment/edge of set ones were introduced by the restored versions where they didn't bother zooming in the shots as intended. Not to mention somehow using an outtake.
No, railroad tracks do not bounce in real life, but they can bend or warp in hot weather. I don't think I saw that one comin'…
This good tho.
2:31 the original railway series books didn't introduce Thomas at that point so Edward was indeed the smallest engine of the bunch
2:55 Edward's whistle is out of tune
4:48 this is because the original shot was too short for the scene, originally they just made a fade to a different point of the emerging steam, but on the restored version they just played the missin bit backwards
7:00 the left red stripe on henry's cilinder is pealing away
7:52 the steam generator is still going after Thomas leaves and you can clearly see where the steam comes from as a result
8:29 Sir Topham's mouth is pealing away at the very right end (you can see it because of the shadow)
10:34 as a result of the metal rod the trailing wheels don't move while the driving wheels do
14:16 and 14:18 the people teleport from being right in front of the ticket room to way back near the edge of the station floor
15:05 this one is very particular because the set that you see where Thomas stops at the signal is only used once, ever, never to be seen again, in this part of the episode, the reason is unclear as to why they changed it, because the original scene took place in the set that we usually see, so the set in the shot where Thomas is zoomed in
20:35 the track layout makes no sense whatsoever
22:41 i don't know if it's only this shot but Gordon's cilinder is chipped
22:46 the original story wasn't interpreted properly, what actually happed is that gordon was in deed rushing towards percy, but the driver and fireman didn't just jump out, they tried to reverse Percy but because it wasn't quick enough that they jumped out, by the time Gordon put on the brakes Percy already started to move slowly backwards and was out of the way, ), that's why Gordon thanks Percy at the end; by the time Gordon stopped Percy was out of reach for the driver and fireman and BECAME a Runaway (so this means that he didn't runaway only because he was scared)
23:06 BIG OOF an outtake was used, in the original scene henry did rest on the siding (without ramming through the station wall) and edward moved to take charge of the train
23:54 this is due to the fact that they had limited budget at the time so many coaches are painted so one side is tan and the other is regular, this explains why coaches in many episodes are very often flipped (aka the break coaches or annie and clarabel)
24:37 the left red stripe on henry's cilinder is pealing away
24:50 the edge of the set is still visible but is not so bad like the very first episode of the season
25:25 Henry rams through a bush, you can make it out if you look at the right side just above the bridge
27:47 bottom right corner there's visibile camera lens radius I suppose?
28:34 Gordon's tender is badly derailed
30:42 I wouldn't consider this as a goof just a limitation, the lights are out of scale with the props
During the part where Edward backs up to Henry's coaches when Henry goes to a siding you could see Edward's eyes jitter a bit
Most of these goofs can be attributed to the fact that they used heavy amounts of stock footage in the first season. When production was underway, they didn't have much in the way of budget, so they had to make due with what they had, which even included conserving camera film by reusing stock footage. At the end of James and the coaches when SIR Topham is addressing James there is a tree moving in the background.
5:07 When I was a child I thought that the purple hand was because of the excuse that his doctor wouldn't let him pull/push
The reason for the backwards brake coach in some scenes is that the other side was a different color.
