Blessings to the person who was in the right place at the right time to alert you to Spot and save his life. Sorry can't disagree with you more about not having a dog if living in town. A dog can have a great life in town with an owner who loves dogs, cares for it properly and treasures the relationship one has with one's dog. From someone who goes to over 2000 farms with my job I can tell you there are many farm dogs who have a rough life, very little attention, full of mats and so many elderly dogs whose life ends being accidentally run over in their yard. Livestock farmers whose dogs live in small kennel runs or sheds, some don't get out for days when the sheep/cattle aren't being moved. A dog can be happy living with someone who loves and properly cares for it, regardless of in town or on the farm.

We have always appreciated your honesty, so thank you for sharing the story about Spot. It made my heart ache for you. Anyone who has watched you with your animals and your family would know that you would never harm any of them, even accidentally, without beating yourself up endlessly! You'll need to focus on gratitude for the outcome, and lessons learned, then move forward without blaming yourself forever. It's great to hear that you are healing after your surgery, and having a banter and a laugh with Iona always helps. Take care. We love you all.❤

It's always good to be together for a good blather.
    Perfect merch hoodie.
Tears to my eyes every time you tell the Spot story. The way you both are together with the sheep and you call him son . That makes us love Spot as well as Meg and Fern. Nothing like a good dog and shepherd team. Of course you would share. They are a part of your family.
Yay Iona! To be fair, Iona has a knack for reading the questions very fast. She could have got a couple more questions. 🎉 Great Craic

Cammy, let me tell you a quick story.
Many moons ago, my little Dachshund and I were in an elevator.
The elevator stopped, the doors opened and we got out together.
But Dachshunds being the stubborn little sausages that they are, she turned tail and ran back INTO the elevator just as the doors closed.
    So there I was.
Holding her leash - the end of which ( with her on it ) was now behind a closed elevator door . . . and MOVING UP. 😳🫣
I darned near went into cardiac arrest on the spot !
It all worked out, thank God, and she was completely unharmed but it did give me one HELL of a jolt.
And I watched her like a HAWK from then on anytime there were elevators involved.
    Lesson LEARNED, right ?

Never be afraid to tell others about your mistakes. Everyone is capable of screwing up and especially when you're multi-tasking like mad. Few professions have more potential for accidents than farming, because there are so many things going on at the same time. One of my favourite farming channels is "Farmer Tyler Ranch". He runs a small cattle operation in Nothern California. Most of his work is by himself only assisted by his two dogs for companions while his wife is working the home front with their two young children. He's great at maintaining everything himself doing a lot of welding and other building projects. He recently had a very tough day while working long hours processing his own meat chickens. Distracted late in the day, his lovely German Shepherd pup managed to wander off the property and was struck by a car. On top of that he lost the 40 birds he'd just got in the freezer, after the panic over the dog caused him to not notice the freezer wasn't shut properly. He shared the whole heart breaking day with his viewers, so others could learn from his mistakes. Cammy has that same integrity, in not hiding things just because something went wrong. Bravo.

Greetings! I’m thankful Spot survived this horrible mistake. I had a similar incident about 20years ago. Please let this be a serious warning about keeping a close eye on your children. A local farmer in our area ran over his 5yr old son with skid steer totally by accident. His son came running out of the barn to ride with him as he was reversing. He never saw him until it was too late. Please be more careful and aware. If a simple lapse of attention can happen with spot, it could happen with your children as well. Life is too precious and too short for that sort of horrific tragedy.
    Blessing to you and yours

I live in a city but everyone owns their own single family home on a quarter acre of land. Everybody walks their own dogs, big, small, miniature. Everybody picks up after their dogs, puts the feces in a little bag and carries it proudly all the way home. It's a point of pride, carrying a bag of dog feces, because it shows the world that you're a high quality person.

That was a brave and honest story to share. It’s the pits when we make a mistake like that. You’d rather suffer yourself than inflict it on another. No one could punish you more than you’ll punish yourself and your regret is obvious. Dogs live in the moment, though and Spot seems to be bouncing back. He’s such a goof ball.

I've always been scared of this happening to myself as well. In recent years I've only tied to the hitch if I know for sure my rig is not going to move for at least 24 hours or if wherever I'm at I have no way of approaching my rig but from the back as I return. I have some times use the step bar on the side of my Dodge, unfortunately my Corolla doesn't have anywhere except for the spoiler on the back to tie to.
When I was in college had a family friend who is working outside and told their dog to lay down and stay in the driveway. The obedient dog stayed, the friend forgot, went inside did some stuff, and an hour or so later got in their rig to go to the store. Backed over their beloved dog. 99.9% of dogs would have not stayed in that same place for that long of a Time, 99.9% of dogs would not have gotten ran over, but theirs did. Grief and guilt last a long time😢
