      Thank you. I don't always feel courageous, but I suppose in some ways I am.

    I love that the town is embracing you and that you're embracing the experiences! I usually travel alone to Italy, and every single thing scares me - from the bus to the train, ordering food in my still-broken Italian, etc. But you're right in that some of the best experiences might be simple ones but ones that we overcame our fears to do. Cheers to you!

      It certainly isn't always without its hiccups. But the reward and the experience itself far outweighs the fear...not always easy to overcome the fear though.

      Traveling alone I think definitely presents a unique challenge. You have to rely on yourself, your phone, and trust that in general people are willing to help.

      It really was an honor, or at least i considered it a honor to represent them at the festival. It is kind of like a homecoming.

      Weather permitting I’m helping harvesting olives this weekend! Give me a week or two and I’ll try to get something out there.😊

    Kristen, I stumbled upon your Chanel and absolutely love it. You are a naturall on camera! My husband’s parents were both born in Bocchigliero, in Cosenza , Calabria. My in laws moved to Canada in 1962. My husband was born in Canada in 1963. My father in law just passed away October 2. We have their original birth certificates and marriage certificates, also father in laws Canadian death certificate We also have found some previous documents that showed the family owned property there. It was sold years ago. Would these documents be enough to acquire dual citizenship? We are looking to retire in late 2025 hopefully. We are 55 and 60 years old.

      Thanks for watching and your kind words. I am not an expert on Italian law and the years they immigrated seem out of the years I investigated in my own journey. I would connect with dual citizenship Facebook groups who would have more expertise than I would.

      I am working on it! Though my Italian is more Tarzan Italian at the moment. Being from Peru, what made you see Italian citizenship?

    Seeing them take you in and welcome you with open arms is beautiful 🩷 I have so much hope for when I go to the town where my great grandparents were born. Question for you? So I'm looking for both of my great grandparents birth certificates. I'm sure they are in their communes...and I am working with a lawyer in Palermo but the charge will be about 1,500 euros each for the time,taxes,fees to find them. Is their a way you suggest I could try on my own? Or is that why you are there yourself? Also, how did you end up getting the original birth certificates from your genealogy guide in Caccamo? I would love to see/hear more of your process getting the documents there in Sicily! Have a great day!!

    • @anywherewithkristen

      I know this is not the typical expat experience and attribute this to the fact that my ancestors are from this town and I still have family here, though I did not know many of them before I got here.
      Regarding birth certificates. It true the person helping me in Caccamo did show me the original, but we managed find a digital copy before I came. Being here has certainly opened a wealth of about my family that I did not know. I did not use a lawyer in my case to find them, but if you are having trouble locating them yourself, a lawyer might be the way to go.

    • @cathleencrobons

      @@anywherewithkristen Can I ask how you found the digital copy? I do see where I can ask through an Italian form, online. Do you have any insight on this or website I might use?

    • @anywherewithkristen

      Here is how we did it:
      1. Family Search: www.familysearch.org/search/catalog/481396?availability=Family%20History%20Library You will have to create an account first but it is free...no charges.
      2. The second way is directly from Sicily ...the Antenati or Ancestors Portal antenati.cultura.gov.it/search-registry/?archivio=227&descrizione=Archivio%20di%20Stato%20di%20Palermo&s_facet_query=localita_ss%3ACaccamo
      With both you have to go year by year and you will have to go to the back of each "book"...look for the index and then find the name of the person you are searching.

      @@anywherewithkristen Thank you! I’ve been using that too, unfortunately their birth certificates weren’t on there. But I do appreciate your response very much 🫶🏼
