I picked up a used Yakima Carbonite Skybox 21. A used one costs a decent chunk of cash also. New is nice but it'll eventually get scratched up and sun bleached if you leave it on your vehicle for extended periods anyway. Also if I decide to resell it, hopefully I won't lose too much. Although the Thule XT Xl is a nicer looking box I gotta say. Storage wise it was pretty much the same as the Yakima 21 cubic feet wise. But don't get fooled by going on just cubic feet as a measure of what you can fit in these boxes. You have to look at the shape and dimensions and see what would work best for you. The Thule starts to slope around mid section towards the nose thus reducing the height of objects you can place throughout and towards the front. The Yakima pretty much stays almost consistent till almost the end of the nose before it slopes thus giving you more consistent height throughout the box giving you more useable space throughout.
I purchased during one of their seasonal sales with 20% off Thule products or use one of their 20% single item coupons. There is a sale going on right now, which has this.

Ive got one of these. Essential for week long family camping trips!
My local REI's price is $1,050. Wonder how yours is $900.
