A food forest is an amazing concept if the residents are committed to harvesting. If fruit is left though, it would fall and rot on the inaccessible parts of this building's structure and the ground and bring in rats from all around.
Make some gardening a requirement of application. How great of a community it would build, that residents in the morning and afternoon would congregate and gather food. Yes have a few experienced people to orchestrate the whole thing.

I just love this! I would live here in a heartbeat. What a beautiful peaceful design yet it provides clean air while saving energy and water. Excellent!
Probably not as much as we think. Those steel beams are left bare and the added tree shaped decorative elements would not be expensive. Instead of synthetic insulation panels they used enclosed brick chambers. The most expensive part of this building would be the mechanics in the basement. Using green energy pays for itself in the long run. I can't remember if there are solar panels on some of the roof sections. I could easily see solar 'trees' used that would not look out of place strategically placed on the roof. This is a real eye-opener to future urban design.
The most expensive aspect here I think, is all the unused space. They could probably have built way more units on that lot. Depending on the price of the lot etc.
@@hvah that always seems to be the trade off- build more units and make it denser, or leave room for trees and green space to grow. So many cities and municipalities are definititly willing to sacrifice the trees for more apartments. I'm glad this one didnt

The climate in Detroit is pretty harsh. Do you think Turin might be considerably more mild & thus they can get away with things we here in the Great Lakes can not? For instance it was 3ºF here in Rochester, while it was in the 40s in Turin. It looks like they may be up to 60ºF there this week! Can you imagine!? In January! :P

I hope for two things happening: 1) one day I gonna be in an a financial positions to afford buying something so cool, 2) or maybe environmental friendly housing gonna get cheaper and more popular and more people gonna be able to get in this kind on environment that is amazing to see and so functional to live in!
Exactly my thoughts on this kind of approach becoming cheaper and more widely available, because even though they didn't discuss costs on the video, it is pretty obvious that this is expensive. It just blows my mind how people can't see the value of trees and some even choose to remove them as soon as they get a chance. "I hate sweeping the leaves", "it cracks the sidewalk", "those pesky bugs". And then all of a sudden you get yourself a scorched neighbourhood completely devoid of trees, hot as hell, not a shadow to be seen. You tear down a wall or a whole house, in two or three months it can be rebuilt. You cut down a tree, it's gonna be decades or even centuries until a new one gets to the same size.
Kirsten, this is one of your best videos (other than your kids!). Thanks for sharing. I am ready to move in now! Sadly, there is nothing comparable to this in the USA, not even Portland, Oregon.
Very happy of the provided habitat for the animals. As awesome as this building is, the wilderness will always trump the city, every time. Would have loved this development to incorporate more of the edible species of trees, then again, they could potentially require more maintenance. Truly a more serene corner in the concrete prison we all know as the city.
It would be wonderful to take an existing strong structure such as the nearby car factory and use it to support the weight of soil and trees. The extra construction materials to support this weight is the Achilles heel of the new builds which integrate trees into an "eco" structure. With an existing structure that strength is free, so why not use it? This apartment complex is at least not too high so is not as burdened as a green tower and can support the trees in an external metal structure without adding concrete to the main building's mass.
@@samsmom1491 The problem with most multi unit/office buildings is that they're designed with maximum density whereas this building is deliberately built in a modular fashion with large amounts of space between many of units, which explains the availability of space for the tree containers and multiple terraces in all directions. In most cases it's probably easier to clear the ground and start from scratch. So many wonderful ideas here, though.
This is wonderful..lovely! Now I pray you can find a way to do this for the person with an average income..not only the wealthy. Imagine how peaceful surroundings might impact the lives of sooooo many...and create a better world!
All new buildings should be required to be built like this, also providing an ecosystem for all of nature, not just us humans. It would make us much healthier and happier.
Love, luv, loooove, love this concept. Every new construction project should incorporate this ideal. Awesome, powerful, authentic living closer in line to and with "our mother, the earth"
Trees don't encourage mosquitos, standing water does. As long as they aren't overwatering the Trees in poorly drained planters... there is no reason there would be more mosquitos. On the contrary, the Trees could reduce the presence of mosquitos, on account of accommodating those creatures which prey on them :]
Here’s a short video I saw about the one in China that’s plagued by mosquitoes. It sold out but only 10 families currently live there due to the mosquitoes.
Wow this is absolutely beautiful 😍 fantastic integration of trees with condominiums for the environmental health and health of humans and animals...GREAT JOB!!!

This is genius! I would so love to see more buildings like this built now and going forward. Turning the structural support beams into functional art that incorporates the tree shape as well as the use of living trees further invites nature back in to people's lives. I can imagine how lovely it is to hear the birds singing right next to you. The use of water harvesting (based on ancient techniques, advanced heating and cooling systems are very much what needs to be put into practice now! I am so impressed. The occupants are so blessed to live there and they appear to cherish their homes.

Kristen I love the videos you do with your family! I'm a happy subscriber of many years ☺️💕
Kirsten, this is one of your best videos (other than your kids!). Thanks for sharing. I am ready to move in now! Sadly, there is nothing comparable to this in the USA, not even Portland, Oregon.
a very close second to the Northwestern fairytale Air b&b
yet anyway....come on dreamers, humans create so lets get a dreaming and manifesting!!!
Impressive forest type flat with the water room making it run smooth. Very nice indeed.
Are you serious? We, my wife and I are literally moving to Torino next Tuesday, this came in like a glove hahaha
GREAT project- great camera angles! Thank you for your work
Fabuloso! Hope there is an "Archive of inspirational Architecture" where this gets archived. Thank you Kirsten Dirksen!
What an amazing building. A beautiful place to live in the city. More tree houses please!
So beautiful, and so fun! 😍
Yessss!!!!! Very beautiful and very sane.
Right off the bat When she opened up the door to the terrace , I got the biggest smile. It was amazing to see.
This may very well be the coolest building I've seen in several years. I'd want to live here if I were in Turin, Bravo all around!
So happy that you are still creating your videos! Go Kirsten & Family 🙌
Oh my god. It's wonderful. The stuff daydreams are made of.
With so many abandoned factory buildings and closed steel mills this might be a good idea since the ground itself is tainted from previous use.
Imagine a city of tree houses like this. People would be so naturally happy.
😍😍😍
This is wonderful..lovely! Now I pray you can find a way to do this for the person with an average income..not only the wealthy.
Imagine how peaceful surroundings might impact the lives of sooooo many...and create a better world!
All new buildings should be required to be built like this, also providing an ecosystem for all of nature, not just us humans. It would make us much healthier and happier.
Wow! such a beautiful place, and kudos to the camera crew for showing the space in all its splendor.
Love, luv, loooove, love this concept. Every new construction project should incorporate this ideal. Awesome, powerful, authentic living closer in line to and with "our mother, the earth"
Amazing. How has this building existed in a city center for so long and we’re just seeing it? Only concern is how they manage mosquitoes?
Trees don't encourage mosquitos, standing water does. As long as they aren't overwatering
the Trees in poorly drained planters... there is no reason there would be more mosquitos.
On the contrary, the Trees could reduce the presence of mosquitos, on account of
accommodating those creatures which prey on them :]
As long as the water features are flowing they won't attract mosquitoes. I could see the ripples, it looks like they're circulating the water.
Why would mosquitoes be a problem? All the water is moving and filtered.
Here’s a short video I saw about the one in China that’s plagued by mosquitoes. It sold out but only 10 families currently live there due to the mosquitoes.
It is still a Mediterranean climate.. not mosquito pronned as year round rainfall places.. California is the same..
I'm from Singapore, lived in 5 major cities and traveled around the world. I personally think that's the most beautiful building I've ever seen.
Love that terraceful apartment. cool architecture of the building!!
Wow! I love it, what a great idea that works beautifully.
Wow this is absolutely beautiful 😍 fantastic integration of trees with condominiums for the environmental health and health of humans and animals...GREAT JOB!!!
This is architecture. Respect for the environment and people
This building is stunning . The architect did a great job on this .
One of the best pieces of architecture I've seen
This is the greatest combination on the greenery and architecture. I think this is the building of the future where a human lives closer to nature.
What an awesome build.
I want to live in one of the top floors. I would really enjoy all those green trees ,grass and shrubs in my yard. 🌱🌻🌲🌳🍀🍃🌿☘️
Suffering from depression most of my life I would find it hard to be so depressed if this was my daily surroundings.💚
What a beautiful idea!! I would love to live here! So private yet convenient! Privacy and the quiet feeling of a treehouse! Love this!!!! ❤️
Simply fantastic! I love it! Such a great evolutionary architecture!
A businessman that cares for people and the planet. Respect 🙏🏽
Impressive building, very thoughtful design. It would be very pleasant to live in. Maybe we can start to see more building like this now that you have shown this.
Wow...amazing! What a stunning place to live...I can't believe that's in the middle of a city. beautiful!
❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️ What an incredible delightful place to live. Thanks for featuring this living sculpture + residence.
I feel happy just knowing this apartment building exists. How wonderful to think that you can just step outside and into nature. We MUST do more of this throughout cities.
That is so cool . City life at its finest . I could do city life if I lived here. My anxiety , I fell like I'm in the woods not the city .very calm . How did he get the permits to do this in the city in Florida this would be hard to do. I am in love with this building .
An absolutely gorgeous project 🙌and great tour!
This is most enjoyable. It looks like everything works fine. Now, maybe we can see this same concept applied in various ways.
