Congratulations, Lynn and Arnie! The Knockout boy is a knockout himself! The ewe lamb will catch up in no time. I had to laugh at myself when the ewe turned around, I saw her mucus for the first time, and I blurted out, "Pretty mucus." You know you're a sheep farmer when you pay close attention to the color of the mucus and dare to call it pretty. 🤣🤣🤣
I loved the video so much I'm watching it again!! Something just came to me as I was watching. I've been watching you and Arnie farm your sheep for a few years now. I can literally count on one hand the number of sheep you have lost. Some of those were clearly due to old age!! When viewers are watching, sometimes I don't think they stop to realize that you guys at all times have HUNDREDS of sheep!! That CLEARLY shows how well you tend to your sheep!! That just came to my mind as Arnie was talking with the vet office on the phone and I had to share!!❤
Thanks Cindy. We take our jobs as shepherds very seriously and try our best to ensure low mortality rates in our sheep and lambs. I'm glad you pointed this out because we do have hundreds of sheep and I think we have very few losses. I was happy to hear Maryanne at the vet clinic say basically the same thing too😁
A sheep in labor makes a deeper sounding baa. One of my favorite sheep sounds. That and the little grumbles she makes as she's cleaning off the lamb. I call them mommy noises. Also love the sheep turning selfie mode.
Oh my goodness. Yippee yippee babies are here. Glad the ewe is looking better. And I always believed you checked with the vet about you animals. Oops Knockout is still young and wonders what is going on. She is a very pretty ewe. That baa really is distinctive. Happy birthday little fella. Boy there is some heavy licking happening. The ewe decided it was her turn to be on video. Kind of cool that Knockout could see the babies he is responsible for. What a super wonderful extra video. Heartwarming. Thank you for sharing. You guys are amazing. Enjoy your evening. 🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🎄🎄🎄🎄❤️❤️
Agreed, of course they do…plus a bunch of experience of past years checking with vet. Where you know their recommendations for certain situations already.
Awwww what a lovely gift. Thank you for sharing this one out of order. :) I was working with my sheep this morning, and one of my two remaining lambs got startled and went to leap over an obstacle only to collide with my face. Never quite had a full horned sheep collide with my face before. I'm looking forward to lambs out of my ewes. My ram departed today, so now I'm going to discover just how busy he was before he left. The youngest ewe is 9 months and my flock is too small to keep them separate, so she might have been bred. About 5 days ago I noticed my wether trying to get frisky with her, and I'm wondering if it meant she was cycling. I figure that of my 7 ewes, the 9 month old one, and the one who gave birth in July are less likely to be bred, but the other 5 ewes, including the three that didn't get bred last year, are quite likely to be bred. I very much appreciate all you do, all you share. I love the six kittens too..... I keep thinking the russian blue should be called Tuna and one of the black ones should be Luna. Oh, quick question.... We're still in the L year, so will these lambs get L names, or will they get M names like Minotaur, Minnie, or the first set of triplets can be Meenie Miney and Moe. :) Just curious. I'm starting up my M-name-generator. Like it will be super cool if you get a Knockout Ram Lamb who you can call Maximilian, or you can call one Money, or Mischief, or Misery, or Moo..... actually, my 7 sheep are Bits, Kits, Ivy, Leelu, and Mouse, Moo, and Midge. :) Bits is Kits mum, and Midge is Moo's mum and Ivy is Leelu's mum.
Technically this is still L year until January 1st but these lambs are all in the 2024 cohort so are closer in age with this group than the lambs born last winter. So these will all get M names 😉
I'm so glad you posted this video. It's been a tough couple of months with serious family illness. This was a real spirit lifter. It's always so amazing to see those little new creatures.
So Knockout stayed with that group from beginning to end, no cleanup? Thanks for showing us this video! I thought we were going to have to wait until Christmas.
Thank you Lynn & Arnie I love this time of year when lambs are being born, & knockouts first son & daughter is born, well at least you know he has done his job 😊
Maybe Knockout was trying to help with the Delivery of the Lamb lol 🤣 Just kidding, Ferdinan is flirting with the pretty pregnant ewe there aww so cute 😍🥰 Do you check all the ewe's to see if the placenta comes all the way out and doesn't retain or some get stuck inside her after the birth? I watched a TH-cam video of a dead pig that had had given birth but some of the placenta was still inside her like 2 weeks later causing a toxic shock syndrome or septic infection leading to death?
It really is the greatest time of the year. Thank you so much for keeping us right up to date with the lambs. Now you’ll have backup videos for when you’re need a break and tired. Those sure are a stonkn’ pair of lambs.
🎉 🐑 🐑 Thank you Lynn & Arnie for sharing, posting your first 2 lammies, right away. Beautifully done, went so perfectly perfect. What a Great start to your lambing season, so happy to wake up to coffee and video of lambing. Awesome 👏 Lynn
My experience (with goats) is that gloves aren't necessary as long as you don't go all the way up in there. The mom cleaning out does a pretty dang good job of cleaning everything out, no antibiotics needed as long as not way up in there and hands clean.
Yes, we were told that there is little risk of people contaminating the ewe because there is so much flushing out after she lambs. The gloves are actually to protect us from getting infections from the sheep.
Thanks soo much for extra video. Loved the extra edu but also really enjoyed just letting to camera record while you quickly squeezed in some work. Sheep are soo smart, wanting to do a selfie.
Awesome video. Let the fun begin. Watching each new lamb come into their own personality and have fun doing lambing races when they are a little older. That first ewe to lamb is going to be a great mama, she took to her lambs right away!!! Congratulations KNOCKOUT on becoming a papa. Two cute lambies.
Just finished the majority of my wrapping and now have a slice of pecan pie with some caramel ice cream to eat while sitting back and enjoying the show.
Congratulations, Lynn and Arnie, on your first pair of sweet lambs! The ewe was amazing in her first moments of motherhood. The selfie ewe had me lol! 🐑 Knockout is one beautiful daddy. His babies are going to be showstoppers. 🥰 Lynn, I love long videos and all the pertinent info you and Arnie give us. 😊 Will you still be using L names or will this lambing session be M? 🐑💛
Yes, the selfie was hilarious and she didn't even knock the camera over!😆 This is now going to be the M year. Technically it starts January 1st but a few days early usually doesn't make a difference for names. I consider this the M group since the few early lambs are much closer in age and more related to this group than they would be to the lambs born last winter. So start thinking of M names 😁
Congratulations! Loved the detailed longer video. Thank you for thinking of us. Can I ask, how many Suffolk and likewise Dorset Ewes have been exposed? And approximately how long will your lambing session last if ewes all are bred currently? Also in some animal rings in livestock it is preferred that show stock be born after 12/31 but as close to January 1 as possible.... is the show ring or livestock breeding sales the same in sheep? Only asked the later for hopeful future purchase of show sheep. I assume for quality registered breeding sheep D.O.B isn't a concern... am I correct? Apologies if this was addressed in prior videos. Been watching older videos but not through them all.
We have approximately 300 ewes exposed this year. The majority will be born January-March. Show sheep are usually from the first born in the year only because by show season, they are larger because they ate slightly older but it gives them an edge at the shows. Any age is registerable though
@@EwetopiaFarms thank you very much Lynn and Arnie. I am so excited to follow your season of lambs! I wish for peaceful success for each moment and all the joy and reward just like this prefect lambing you brought us along for! She made it look so easy and prefect! Wishing you both a very Merry Christmas and a bountiful New Year! Helen
@EwetopiaFarms Oh no! Saying heart felt wishes today is a fluke for the season as a whole. Will wait for news on what happened before saying too much more but, I hope the Ewe is ok and for a miracle the lamb(s) are... as well as you and Arnie! Here is a crazy thought, is there any chance this is the mom of the other ewe responding? I love how you were able to spend the time filming this in length since your not yet overwhelmed and exhausted. I hope everything goes smoothly through the next few weeks.
Wow! What a great video! I loved your wonderful descriptive narrative detailing everything that was happening. Thank you so much for sharing this wonderful birthing process!
What handsome babies! 🥰 Maybe you already know this but FYI the YT censors have been all over another vlogger for showing body fluids during birth. I don't know if a warning or disclaimer would help keep them at bay.
There are thousands of TH-cam sheep channels, all of which show lambing with no issues. I think we are all smaller channels and have more clean, successful births. Probably all the tragic lambings on SandI's channel plus a million people watching them, is going to illicit more complaints. That is the downside of being so popular unfortunately.

Yes, we check placentas. They should be delivered within 3 hours of birth. If they retain them, they are immediately put on antibiotics

Question about the colostrum:
You call it sheep colostrum but the label says bovine colostrum.
Is it cow colostrum formulated for lambs?
If it is powdered, it is based with cows milk but formulated for lambs and kids
