Love the video and your choice of music. It's beautiful for our most treasured symbol. It's a daunting task given the importance of the building! Before the next Inaugural? LOL! We'll see!
Its only lasted 150 years with 1 partial restoration in that time. Too bad they didn't pick something more resilient in the 1860s, considering how many other materials were around back then. 🙄
Very cool. I remember that there was some debate about whether or not to proceed with the work and I was just floored. Of course, you must preserve this iconic feature of this iconic building. My first ever trip to DC in 2015, the work was still going on but by my 2018 return, it was complete.

This was a really interesting and informative video. It’s just a shame that the restoration had to end only to bear witness to a following terrible four years.
Yeah. We need to de-escalate America now. The restoration to a de-escalated state will be a project that will take quite a while, but it is necessary to preserve our Democratic Republic.
We Americans should take the opportunity to restore a liberty cap to the top of the statue on top of the Capitol dome. The cap was removed from the initial design by Jefferson Davis in the 1850s. It represents the freed slave, and Davis would have nothing of that. The liberty cap, sometimes on a liberty pole, was a common symbol in the first century following the Declaration of Independence for our highest ideals. After 150 years, it's time.
+Casey Bowman Although the original sketches called for a liberty cap, the statue as it is now is as it was originally cast. Shall we melt it down and recast the whole thing ?
I wondered what was under the dome. Because I watched a late night chat "under the dome " . Didn't under stand, under the dome by Stephen King. Although I have never read the book. Wonder what bullet train is? A lot of boom.
Japorikiskiswa Cruz The nation's prowess has nothing to do with the time taken to complete an architectural project like this. The shear magnitude of the project is why it takes 2 years.
It is the most beautiful building in the country and it hasn't been worked on since 1959 I believe. Now, do you honestly think this was a waste on money like the cost of welfare for young, able, people capable of working?!
it's a hell of a lot better than 2/3rds of the other shit they spend tax payer money on, like rooms at trump's golf courses for the entire secret service or hellfire missiles to bomb innocent people in the middle east or giant cash grants to oil companies destroying the planet.
wow. i really had no idea the dome was actually a paint cast iron kettle--like an old kitchen stove--and not made of marble!!!! i was so proud of its architecture. phew. so much for that!! another fake. needs to be replaced by a real marble dome
It cant be. Its cast iron made to look like marble because marble is too heavy and would crash in the roof of the capitol. and you can’t just tear down the beautiful and historic dome you idiot
@@definitely_notme4112 I am afraid not: Saint Peter dome in Rome (way larger than the one at Capitol Hill), or the one in Florence are both made of marble. You see, cheapness was the cause not the weight. Those other domes are also respectively 300 and 400 years older than the Capitol too. But to "idiots" like you, facts need not apply, but only idiocy and ignorance
@@TWOCOWS1 Ah yes because the domes in Florence and Rome were made the exact same size, the exact same shape, and in the exact same environment with the exact same brutal freezing and thawing cycles. You're very smart and you know *EVERYTHING* about capital architecture. Why don't you go get a job working for the NPS if you know so much?
Cut the crap! All this bullshit about rusting iron, flaking paint and rain leakage is just a smokescreen for what's really going on. Let's just say the next time some disgruntled postal worker tries to fly his gyro-copter anywhere near the Capitol building, he'll be the one getting a special delivery...of SAMs
+Deacon Verter I am surprised that you are not saying that the workers have been busy wiring explosives into the dome for future destruction. Some people just can't see that the dome was deteriorating and needed restoration, just like most buildings and houses.
Very interesting. It's a once in a lifetime thing to see the restoration of something this old, much like the Washington Monument repairs.
What a Beautiful Building. So, glad they repaired it to keep it beautiful!

they did a nice job repairing it after the flying saucer crashed into it

THANK YOU! I'm sure it will be even more beautiful and stronger than ever!
Nah b it got stormed

Who else is seeing videos from this TH-cam channel (“Architect of the Capital”) after, ‘2021 storming of the United States Capitol’?
Me
This was a really interesting and informative video. It’s just a shame that the restoration had to end only to bear witness to a following terrible four years.
I assume you saw what happened a few days ago.
And a riot last week

For anyone wondering what event is being referenced, look-up: ‘2021 storming of the United States Capitol’.
I wonder what vinyl siding would look like wrapped around the dome it's hard to make curves with that stuff though
Thanks for the info
so stunning
Ok I liked the outro lol. That was creative.
Amerlock 400? Wish I could have been part of the project.
I once saw a Capitol building. It was in Washington DC
good video. thank you
What is the background music in this video? It's wonderfully beautiful.
I know you posted this 2 years ago but it’s in the description haha
Nice video, nice soundtrack. What's it called? Thanks! :)

Considering how Congress behaves today, this structure should be torn down.
What do you mean?
For such a country like the US i think 2 years renovation is quite long don'y you think?
+Japorikiskiswa Cruz We in the building trades have a name for Government Jobs. We call them dairies.

Because the dome is very ornate, you want to get it right. Just like you wouldn’t rush a surgery
I didn't realise the dome was made of iron.
It is nearly the carbon Copy of the dome of Novara
Monuments repaired while institutions of government fail daily.

2021?
I hope all that hard work in the Capitol Restoration wasn’t marred by the 2021 Capitol Insurrection.
Nahhhhhh it wasn’t. Only a couple of windows were broken
Hahaha... "Fredom and Democracy". That's funny!
Especially today

The US Capitol has not had a restoration in its history. The last restoration was in the 60’s?
She said it is has not had a FULL restoration in its history. The one in the sixties was mostly on the portico, and only did a little on the dome
I so glad it gone done for Trump, its a good sign, rebuilt America will be complete by Trump and us real Americans!!!!!
their doing the work on weekends why the congress isn't there now this could be done sooner then lol
Magnificent structure...
But was that really the best way to spend taxpayer money...
What do you mean? Would you rather it collapse and kill people?
really?!
