    Very interesting. It's a once in a lifetime thing to see the restoration of something this old, much like the Washington Monument repairs.

    What a Beautiful Building. So, glad they repaired it to keep it beautiful!

    Love the video and your choice of music. It's beautiful for our most treasured symbol. It's a daunting task given the importance of the building! Before the next Inaugural? LOL! We'll see!

      Its only lasted 150 years with 1 partial restoration in that time. Too bad they didn't pick something more resilient in the 1860s, considering how many other materials were around back then. 🙄

    Very cool. I remember that there was some debate about whether or not to proceed with the work and I was just floored. Of course, you must preserve this iconic feature of this iconic building. My first ever trip to DC in 2015, the work was still going on but by my 2018 return, it was complete.

      @@sk8head343 Physically stronger actually. Politically... Chumpee told his lacky Capital police chief not to worry, which among other things that smell, delayed reinforcements. And apparently this event was kinda planned and went too far for most there. !8 ppl have been arrested already and more everyday.

    This was a really interesting and informative video. It’s just a shame that the restoration had to end only to bear witness to a following terrible four years.

      Yeah. We need to de-escalate America now. The restoration to a de-escalated state will be a project that will take quite a while, but it is necessary to preserve our Democratic Republic.

    We Americans should take the opportunity to restore a liberty cap to the top of the statue on top of the Capitol dome. The cap was removed from the initial design by Jefferson Davis in the 1850s. It represents the freed slave, and Davis would have nothing of that. The liberty cap, sometimes on a liberty pole, was a common symbol in the first century following the Declaration of Independence for our highest ideals. After 150 years, it's time.

    • @brihooke
      @brihooke 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Casey Bowman Although the original sketches called for a liberty cap, the statue as it is now is as it was originally cast. Shall we melt it down and recast the whole thing ?

      Japorikiskiswa Cruz The nation's prowess has nothing to do with the time taken to complete an architectural project like this. The shear magnitude of the project is why it takes 2 years.

      it's a hell of a lot better than 2/3rds of the other shit they spend tax payer money on, like rooms at trump's golf courses for the entire secret service or hellfire missiles to bomb innocent people in the middle east or giant cash grants to oil companies destroying the planet.

    wow. i really had no idea the dome was actually a paint cast iron kettle--like an old kitchen stove--and not made of marble!!!! i was so proud of its architecture. phew. so much for that!! another fake. needs to be replaced by a real marble dome

    • @definitely_notme4112
      @definitely_notme4112 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      It cant be. Its cast iron made to look like marble because marble is too heavy and would crash in the roof of the capitol. and you can’t just tear down the beautiful and historic dome you idiot

    • @TWOCOWS1
      @TWOCOWS1 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@definitely_notme4112 I am afraid not: Saint Peter dome in Rome (way larger than the one at Capitol Hill), or the one in Florence are both made of marble. You see, cheapness was the cause not the weight. Those other domes are also respectively 300 and 400 years older than the Capitol too. But to "idiots" like you, facts need not apply, but only idiocy and ignorance

    • @ffggamestuff3724
      @ffggamestuff3724 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Cut the crap! All this bullshit about rusting iron, flaking paint and rain leakage is just a smokescreen for what's really going on. Let's just say the next time some disgruntled postal worker tries to fly his gyro-copter anywhere near the Capitol building, he'll be the one getting a special delivery...of SAMs

    • @dougdiplacido2406
      @dougdiplacido2406 8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      +Deacon Verter I am surprised that you are not saying that the workers have been busy wiring explosives into the dome for future destruction. Some people just can't see that the dome was deteriorating and needed restoration, just like most buildings and houses.
