After not having an electric guitar for twenty years and playing classical only which I love I want an electric again and this is the one I think will do all I need.Thank you for the demonstration.
Beautiful guitar, have been a Yamaha fan forever. My first big purchase back in the 80s after I graduated high school and started working was a Yamaha RGX, it was my first nice guitar, it was stolen but I still have fond memories of it.
After watching this review and your amazing playing, I got the RS420 in black. It’s great, it sounds very nice although I’m just a beginner. You are such an inspiration, my journey had begun!
My Revstar Upgrades: Chrome locking tuners, Chrome roller bridge, Chrome Duesenberg tremolo, Dimarzio SONIC ECSTASY engraved pickups, Seymor Duncan Triple-Shot Rings, mirror pickguard and truss rod cover, Chrome knobs, magnetic slide bar, killswitch, decorative stickers... with TLC the neck is great now.
I don't know how well these guitars sold (the RS420), but I picked one up used and absolutely love it! I really think this particular model is a hidden gem without a doubt!
@@JonIsJustTooLoud Yes, I am. Months ago. I'm also waiting for my Revstar RS420 soon. I haven't finished paying for it hence the guitar isn't in my possession yet. But I can't wait to have it soon. That's why I'm just searching for TH-cam reviews and play through, at the moment. 😊
I watched six revues of this guitar and 5 out of 6 were all positive. The last video I watched before your's hated it. But after watching you play it and revue I ordered me one. Glad I listened to you. I'm quite pleased with the sound, quality and value.
I really like my p90 loaded rs502, even against a few much pricier guitars i own. Actually i'm looking around for a 2nd hand rsp20cr, the japanese made top of the line Revstar. Handled one in the past and it was flawless.
The split sounds are just as nice as the blooming full. Not a bad price either. Color is OK and the shape is nice. I just got to the part where you said it is not a split, but a frequency shift. Interesting.
Hello Jonathan, I do like those pick ups as well, very clear and articulate. They convinced me to buy a Revstar RS820CR, few years back. This Indonesian make is of good quality. The dry switch , I have no use of it as it is so subtle an effect. I like the comfort of this Revstar, especially the neck with some meat to fill the left hand, not chunky, not slim, just right. It is as heavy than a Les Paul. In this Revstar line, the P90 version is the favorite of Chris Buck. The 820 is not cheap, not such a good price/quality ratio. This RS420 in Maya gold is very beautiful and worth the price, I do recommand it.
Sounds really good in your hands ❣️ and the look fits perfectly my wedding suit. Sad thing that the suit did shrink in the last 43 Years...... Thx and stay safe ☮️
Nice playing! The maya gold 420 looks amazing. Such a great looking guitar. I have 3 Revstars and thinking about getting one of these. I don’t have a HB model with the dry switch.
I see you have the D,B, and high E saddles inverted with the low E and G maxed out to the back and the D and high E maxed out the the front. Did you run into intonation issues?
Oh gosh this is a beautiful guitar and it's on the cheaper side. I'm buying a "first" guitar for my niece, would you pick this or a similarly specced Harley Benton around the same pricing for a beginner? Or maybe some other suggestions. She and her school friends started a band recently and she has some very broken school/teaching guitar for now and I decided to gift her a new guitar for her birthday present coming month.
Hi Jonathan. Another great review. My first serious guitar was a Yamaha hand crafted acoustic from the 70's. Beautiful until it had a fatal accident when one of my children fell on it and it was completely demolished. Anyway I like the look of that guitar and it has a cool sound. Thanks man.
I think Yamaha guitars are very underrated. I have the RS620. Some reviews mentioned tbe RS420 had a lower quality tune-o-matic bridge. Is the r20 gig ready or are some bridge or other hardware upgrades needed? Just subscribed to you John, enjoy the reviews.
I’m here for therapy today bud. I just got to a point where I could afford a nice guitar, so I bought a Duesenberg Starplayer TV Custom from Musicians Friend, and I found out they sourced it from a guitar center store. When I got it, there was a chip in the headstock finish and the bridge already had dimpling in it like it was oxidizing. Very sad. Took it to guitar center and luckily they process returns, so I had to return it. Didn’t even get a chance to plug it in, and I would’ve been okay with it being like that at $800, but not at $3200. Great playing and nice guitar Jonathan.
Great review, excellent paying. Just the regular plate :) i wonder if the "thin profile" neck of the 420 is considerably thinner than that of the upper models. I have two of them and I would go for a rs420 only for the slimmer neck.
Hi Jon, I'm looking for a solid HH guitar for under £500 to play heavy, slow metal like Melvins or Acid King. Would you recomend a new rs420 or should I try to find a used PRS SE standard? Thanks for any reply!
