The transition from the chaotic John L to Marlene Dietrich is the best thing I have ever heard. I love being surprised like that haha

I’m actually surprised that you can like the dissonance of black midi while disliking the dissonance in some The Mars Volta tracks you featured.

@@TheAliif Brian isn’t a fan of the chaos and dissonance of The Mars Volta. I’m surprised he’d like black midi given that they are more chaotic and dissonant.

@@tripwirealarm I'm also a black midi fanatic and a Mars Volta disliker. Chaos and dissonance doesn't always sound the same and some people do it in a way that is subjectively enjoyable and sometimes it's not to my liking.
All a matter of opinion but just because they make music that is vaguely similar in concept doesn't mean you're always going to like both.

@@jaydenwhitlen1489 I think black midi are talented and better than a lot of today’s music; however, I struggle to find a hook, melody, or progression in their music that makes me say “damn” and leaves me stunned. I do see how some can I enjoy them.

these are definitely two of my favorite black midi songs, they also have another short but powerful song called "near DT, MI" which is hectic and loud. if you're taking suggestions for more short songs, "The flammable man" and "The lords song" by Daughters are two excellent picks

Great analysis! It’s rare that I can sit and enjoy this long of a video about songs I’ve already heard, but you genuinely brought up some great observations. I also thoroughly enjoyed your Car Seat Headrest video! Would love to see analysis of some more tracks from either band!

Getting more of a King Crimson vibe than Primus, with that fractured guitar. The vocals are definitely more like Les Claypool, though.

Bit more chaotic maybe- but Crimson is certainly in there. Easier for us well aquainted to identify through the cluster though 😊

I think the most interesting thing about these two tracks is just how radically different they are! I think between you saying the second track sounds like Primus and others in the comments noting King Crimson that just about nails it, sounding like a fascinating fusion of the two. For the first track it's... nice, I guess, but it didn't leave a big impression other than the "lounge" feeling that mentioned.

Even if these two songs didn't sell me on Black Midi like Dethroned did, I'm always excited to see their name because they have such variety to their music.

There definitely needs to be more bands like this 👌 Has an ever so slight organic "Lovage Style"... Just faint in feel 🤔 Or some selective Mr. Bungle songs....

Lol you’re correct. The song after hogwash starts off very quiet XD. But I think the contrast is intentionally refreshing, so in a way it does ‘have something to do with the previous song’

I saw black midi at their residency at The VIllage Underground earlier this year. The first night was advertised as a “mystery set”, the mystery was that they played the entire Bugsy Malone soundtrack, complete with extra performers in costume. They are not a band that will conform to your expectations.
There’s also two vocalists. The first song here is sung by the bassist Cameron, the second song is sung by the guitarist Geordie Greep.

I don't know if you're saying Marlene Dietrich is sung by Cameron but if so that isn't the case. It's also sung by Geordie
