id really wondered if the whole thing was CG, really neat to see that it was primarily model work. very nicely done, and i think illustrates what happened without being overly cinematic about it.
Good effort! St Nazaire demonstrates the British at their best, stemming from a seafaring history stretching back a thousand years. Britain today has forgotten it is an island, and that we need the seas around us safe and secure. Britain today cannot even stop thousands of invaders from the Pas de Calais.
I wish they could do the same for my Grandfathers story. The only thing we have is a story in a book, obviously been sanitised for the families of the men on the ship. The book is called 'Ordeal by Sea' and the story of my Grandfathers ship is called 'Turakina fights a raider'. The book was a tribute to all the ships of The New Zealand Shipping Company line lost during WW2, and their heroic crews. God rest their souls.
I guess few remember there was a movie about this event called 'Gift Horse', just dont confuse it with Grift Horse of a semi famous former B list actress Glory at Sea for our American friends, if we have any left ...
Nice event but would have been a lot better if it had all been printed so those of us without hearing and sound might have enjoyed it too. Nothing unusual, very seldom is the entire story printed or a link to print available.
OK, is this just "Oh look how clever we were!" or is this just the BBC not wanting to spend the money for more expensive programming than a documentary about a documentary?
You have done them more proudly than any CGI ever could.
Three cheers to the fallen and to those who made their memory live on!!!

When I was younger I was always so impressed by the CGI in this, so glad to find out how it was done
Absolutely first class. Everything about it.

My favorite war documentary of all time.
A salute to all those involved in this project...wow!
Wow would never had thought it was a model set up looked CGI the craftsmanship gone into making the set was amazing skill.
Thank you for sharing. Their efforts are truly appreciated.
Seen this before a few times. Gonna watch it again.
I got to agree. This is a good one to watch, more than once.
You've got but one chance of getting it right. Well done lads. Well done. Phew. No lives lost. Kudos. Thank you.
Best documentary ever…. Fact
Model building is an art that is steadily dying. Love scale modeling
Beautifully done
Good effort!
