The perfect mixture Finesse and Physically, a whole lot of street smarts too! Kieran was so good we didn't appreciate him as much as he should have been appreciated. Class act. Love from South Africa 🇿🇦🔥

Along with McCaw and Kaino, probably the best back row of all time.

      Lochore, Tremain and Nathan
      Mexted, Mourie and Shaw
      Shelford, Jones and Whetton
      Brooke, Kronfeld and Jones
ABs have had some pretty awesome back rows

It's beyond me how he never makes a GREATEST TEAM list.
For me, he's the best 8 of the professional era, by some margin.
Highly intelligent, read the game speed, aggression, humble.
    And I'm a saffer.

One of the best to do it. Subtle touches, great pace and power. Think he genuinely had it all. The little flick off the floor against the Lions from the back of the scrum is class.

One of my favourite no8s. Was great all over the park carrying, offloading, defending and in the line out. He was also a cheat code for reclaiming 10m kick offs.

Read often rested in the backline just like Hooper. Hooper hardly scored from the back line, but Read knew what he was doing.

That 2011-2015 All Blacks team isn't just the best Kiwis, isn't just the best rugby union team, IMO it's a contender for the best sports team there's ever been. There's nothing that they didn't do to near perfection almost every match. And Kieran Read was a critical part of it.

Best number 8 from 2011-2019, possibly ever. Made a great all black captain after McCaw as well, think hes been really missed since he retired

@d wood Brooke played in the mostly amateur era. Phenomenal player, but the professionalism, leadership, and natural talent of Read pips it for me. Plus he's won 2 world cups and been all black captain for a very successful team post-McCaw. After 2019 I reckon the ABs have massively missed Read's leadership and ability

Before I watch this video, I gotta say all in their *prime* BUCK, ZINNY and *READ* hard to pick?! All brilliant *No 8's* in the black Jersey.
*BUCK* Mana, power, true leader and for those of us who were lucky to see, pure Juggernaut with ball in hand from the back of the scrum. Probably the first i saw with the off load game "around the back pass" and to this day, he's the only A.B too *never lose a Test* as Capt! Partnered with a prime Michael Jones at 7 and Mark Cowboy Shaw at 6.
*ZINNY* Sublime! In the mould as Buck as a leader, but skills of a 10 in a loosie's body. Hard as nails n formed with Michael Jones 6 and Kronfield at 7.
*READ* Practically a mix of both Buck and Zinny put together, though Read looks a little taller than both, so he has a slight advantage over the other two in the Line outs. A *fierce defender* with long range speed to burn, he played 103 Tests *straight with no injuries,* true testament to his character regarding the care of his body, much like McCaw who never suffered a long stint on the sidelines due to injury. Read had Richie at 7 and Kaino at No 6,
Hard to pick a No 8 or loose forward trio as *in their prime* all were as devastating as each other! The only advantage I see is Reads trio looks slightly taller, which no doubt is handy in the Line outs.
But no doubt 100% KIERAN READ is in the top 3 No 8 in A.B history and a *BEAST OF A LEGEND!!*
Speaking of beast, enter *ARDIE!!* watch this
