The perfect mixture Finesse and Physically, a whole lot of street smarts too! Kieran was so good we didn't appreciate him as much as he should have been appreciated. Class act. Love from South Africa 🇿🇦🔥
It's beyond me how he never makes a GREATEST TEAM list. For me, he's the best 8 of the professional era, by some margin. Highly intelligent, read the game speed, aggression, humble. And I'm a saffer.
One of the best to do it. Subtle touches, great pace and power. Think he genuinely had it all. The little flick off the floor against the Lions from the back of the scrum is class.
One of my favourite no8s. Was great all over the park carrying, offloading, defending and in the line out. He was also a cheat code for reclaiming 10m kick offs.
That 2011-2015 All Blacks team isn't just the best Kiwis, isn't just the best rugby union team, IMO it's a contender for the best sports team there's ever been. There's nothing that they didn't do to near perfection almost every match. And Kieran Read was a critical part of it.
@d wood Brooke played in the mostly amateur era. Phenomenal player, but the professionalism, leadership, and natural talent of Read pips it for me. Plus he's won 2 world cups and been all black captain for a very successful team post-McCaw. After 2019 I reckon the ABs have massively missed Read's leadership and ability
From the Rosehill College 1st XV to the captain of the All Blacks. Watching him play while I was a young and impressionable year 9 Rosehill student was really something else
What was he like as a high school player? Was he a prodigy all black in waiting or he just a normal player that later bloomed into the all black legacy he left behind?
Read had it all, size, pace, skill, strength, a monster on defence, great in the air - line outs or kick offs, brilliant on attack, could read the game better than any loose forward I've ever seen.
Quality player to watch growing up - footwork and power to get through the contact and pace to take advantage along with the rugby brain and handling skills. Caelan Doris has a very similar balance of skills

Well said
Along with McCaw and Kaino, probably the best back row of all time.
Lochore, Tremain and Nathan
Mexted, Mourie and Shaw
Shelford, Jones and Whetton
Brooke, Kronfeld and Jones
ABs have had some pretty awesome back rows

Incredible player, the best in the world in the 2011-2015 period

An underrated player definitely in amongst some of the best loose forwards to ever play. A great mix of power, finesse and leadership
Thanx for the highlights. One of my favorite players. Deserves more credit. The best No 8 New Zealands ever produced in my opinion.

Not even close, the Boston Celtics won the NBA 11 times in 13 seasons from 1957-1969

Best 8 of all time

Read often rested in the backline just like Hooper. Hooper hardly scored from the back line, but Read knew what he was doing.
Was it me or didn’t he have a ridiculous offloading game too?
2:15, 3:13...
bro…
It's not just you mate, he absolutely did have a great offloading game.
2013 Read was an absolute menace
No way did I just think “I’ll go on TH-cam to watch a Kieran Read highlight because that bro was quality” and Forde has posted this!
Without doubt One the greatest players leaders ever
Best number 8 from 2011-2019, possibly ever. Made a great all black captain after McCaw as well, think hes been really missed since he retired

Thank you, I always admired Kieran Read

@@swisscloud4309 He was really that good back then. Mind this is starting to approach 20 years ago now. But he was a hell of a player even then

Coming from an Irish person what a player best 8 ever?
such a well rounded 8, a true great
Always a good day when I get that upload notification 🎉
His was incredible, physicality and skills galore
Those were the days of the ABs!
Phenomenal player!
Can we get a John Ryan tribute please?!

Strikes me he was very, very REAL!
Great clipshow, Mr. F. 🙂🙃🙂🙃
Greatest loose trio of all time:
6 Kaino
7 McCaw
8 Read
Can you do one on Aaron Shingler now he's retiring
Awesome!! Thanks!!
Amazing player - 👏
From south Auckland he always has a smile on his face too :)!!
Hard, he was this good playing in the Rosehill 1st XV too
Jesus Christ I had no idea he was this good. What a freak
What?? Have you been living under a rock?
…jokes!
Is it not reid?
I thought the same thing, but Mr Forde is correct
Nope, its Read, his mum was also one of my primary school teachers back in the day
still not replaced him
great video
Kieran retired too early!
Given all the head injuries he inevitably took and the success he had, probably very sensible.
@@championthewonderhorse9733 back problems too.
