- Here is one of the most highly respected warplanes of the Cold War - the SAAB Viggen fighter and attack jet of the Swedish Air Force - this one was the sole remaining airworthy example from the Swedish Historic Flight as of 2014.
Sweden was neutral in the Cold War but was in a vunerable position in the World and as such developed a huge and extremely capable air force to defend itself from both the Russians and the Americans as a precaution.
Along with the Draken it made a formidable fighting force in the 1980's, and the wonderful historic flight assets are highly sought after as airshow exhibits to this very day.
This sensational display is from the Waddington Airshow in Lincolnshire, England in July 2014, and was very much one of the highlights of the day. - ยานยนต์และพาหนะ
Not many people know that the maneuver Stellan carries out when waving to the crowd is actually a maneuver that only Viggen can do at this low speed (in the whole world), here around 200 km/h but it can go down to an amazing speed of 160 km/h before Viggen loses all kind of lift power.
When he's done he's going straight up in a very high angle, at that low speed many aircrafts would stall going that angle, and this is a single engine aircraft, raw power.

I remember that 41 squadron exchange, as I served on F6 Karslborg Wing. The british pilots didn't even säy "Hello" to us technicians. They stuck there nose upp high an didn't even speak to us. In Sweden wev'e got a strong "WE" fealing. It's the team that gets the planes in the air. Pilots and ground crew where a tight group. And as said, we where the first to have a lockdown on the SR71.

+Leifi Plomeri I've been told that the SK37 had 100000 hp, the AJ37 161000hp and finally the JA37 187000hp. At the time they were built, they were the most powerful fighters in production. The Real problem with Viggen (Thunderbolt) was its fuelconsumption. Full tank of 6.6 m3, lasted for only 8 min at full throttle. The Viggen had reduced enginepower in peacetime, but in wartime it had the same prestanda fully loaded as it had empty in peacetime.

The DD-Design, Avionics, Landing Gear, multiple Armaments, STOL feature, awesome VOLVO RM-8 turbine, and many other unorthodox solutions made this Multirole Aircraft as a Top 10 Fighter in his Duty-Decade !

It had a system for radar guided automatic cannon fire. It was described by a pilot I talked to as a very violent experience when they used it.
And remember, if required it could shoot down a SR-71 as well as sinking any aircraft carrier with the RBS-15.

Growing up next to lake Vänern in the area between F6 Karlsborg and F7 Såtenäs in the 80's, these things used to fly above our playground all the time. Guess the two air force bases met up for a lot of training by the lake. Almost always a group of 3-5 planes, low altitude, high speed - making the ground shake and sounding like all hell broke loose. I loved it! Nowadays it's rare to see a fighter jet in the swedish skies, occasinally you get to spot a single JAS 39 Gripen if you're lucky. I really miss it.
Här över mej flyger dom i rote om 8 plan. Men så bor jag väldigt nära F7. Och har jobbat på transportflyget där. Men det va en fröjd å se när dom övade med dom gammla klassiska planen så som J29, J32, J35, J37, SK60, J34. Saknade J28 och J21R.

I'm now seriously considering a new DCS module.
They were able to hunt and clock the Sr-71´s coming in from russia.The were able thanks to the use of titanium in the leading edges aproach nearly mach 3.
There was a 2 seat version of this too yes? What was it used for?
Flight school
Training mostly.The designation was SK-37. However the definitive dedicated electronic warfare/EW viggen was built from the two-seater called the SK-37E.
I noticed at 8:11 it had a RAT extended.
Its out from the start (0:22)...Strange
It extends when the aircrafts main gear touch the ground. Then it goes back in when it takes off
Isn't a shame that one can't hear the speaker all the time.

The Viggen was one of the best Fighter-Bomber of her time. Cheap and effectiv in multi roles. And his time far ahead in many categories. Bye Hans..
