  • We got between 8 to 10" of real nice snow overnight. It was great to finally have some real white snow to blow.

    Fun to watch. We’re moving to N Wisconsin this year. 700’ driveway. From the looks of this video (appreciate the cam angles) the 1025 w/cab and blower look like just what we’ll need! Thank you for taking the time to film & post!

    • @X748SE
      @X748SE  4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Thanks for watching! You can't go wrong with a 1025/w cab. A cab makes a world of difference. I would suggest the 54" over the 47" blower for that long of driveway.

    Got 10” of snow earlier this week in ND. Watching all your videos really helped me in deciding what I wanted when I pulled the trigger and purchased a X739 with cab, heat. etc. I ultimately went with the 47” snowblower since I do a couple residential driveways and it’s the perfect width for sidewalks. Even with having my own JD, I still enjoy watching your videos when I’m not driving mine!

      zoso264green I just returned a x330 with a 44” blower and am thinking of getting a bigger one. The x330 was a 2019 but very underpowered for doing sidewalks for some clients. Am torn Between a 700 series or 1025r.

      I picked up a used JD GT245 (low hours) with a 42" blower that has a nice cab. It keeps the wind-driven snow out of my face while doing my 150' driveway in Central New York (lake-effect snow belt). This old guy is learning why the next one needs to have a hydraulic lift. It's a huge improvement over the 30" Cub Cadet 930 SWE walk-behind with a snow cab, though.

    Got about 4” of snow this week, so I pulled out my X748 snowblower, which is a little more plain Jane than yours. Plus if you want to reverse without your PTO turning off, pull up on your PTO switch and reverse. I have a puppy, so I blew him a path to play on in my fenced in backyard. To get in, I open my left and right gates, pushing them in to open them. From there, I mount the tractor again, shut the door, pull into the play area, fire up the PTO, increase my RPMs, and buckle down.

    • @X748SE
      @X748SE  ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for watching! When I do a lot of forward and reverse activity on my tractor I find that it a bit of a pain to constantly pull up on the PTO switch to keep the PTO running. I found a simple little "tool" that alleviates that task. Please see this video on how I use this simple little tool:--> th-cam.com/video/3_MT0GsA3B0/w-d-xo.html No alterations to the tractor whatsoever. I too blew a path for our dog when we has a lot snow.

    Thanks for posting this! I'm considering moving from a Kubota GR-2120 to the X758 because the JD tractor seems a bit beefier and better built for heavy use (however the Kubota's snow blower is built like a tank!). However, I haven't seen the JD snowblower in person - are you happy with the build quality and performance of your whole unit? Also, how do you adjust the angle of the chute? I thought it was either a manual adjustment with a tension knob or an additional push-pull cable that would raise and lower it. Yours is hydraulic?? Any other advice? Thanks!

    • @X748SE
      @X748SE  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks for watching and your query. I am very happy with the build quality of my 54 blower. The chute is angled left and right via hydraulics and the deflector I control with a linear actuator. I did modify the blower to increase the left/right rotation angle. See this video of mine for more info: --> th-cam.com/video/tE819PnpUjE/w-d-xo.html

    • @Matt-ih9fb
      @Matt-ih9fb 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks - that video was very helpful. The linear actuator would be an absolute necessity because I have a couple tight areas where I really need to fine-tune where the snow goes (and my Kubota has electric chute control for the spout angle). Can you share any more videos or photos or information about how you wired in the actuator and where you located the plug and switch and such? Thanks so much!!! @@X748SE

    • @X748SE
      @X748SE  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If you get a NEW X758, there is an area on the left side of the steering wheel that has 2 removal-able switch blanks/covers. You can remove one of the blanks and install a Momentary DPDT rocker switch to control the linear actuator. Wiring for this type of switch and linear actuator can be found on the web by searching for it. Install an inline fuse with proper current rating from the battery or alternator to the switch. I picked up a weatherproof 12 volt power adapter and plug off eBay. You may source to it locally. I made a simple bracket and mounted the 12V adapter just in front of the SCV. That way it gets connected at the same time as I connect the hydraulic lines for the snowblower. I leave my hard cab on all the time so I made a custom overhead panel for it. That is where i have my switch for my linear actuator. You can have a glimpse of the overhead panel somewhere in this video :--> th-cam.com/video/E8Lq_VbIyeU/w-d-xo.html

    That’s the problem about buying a blower, it could take years before you get a good storm to really test it out. I’ve owned several HLA snow wings which I really like. Then we got a huge storm a few years back so I bought a rather expensive Shulte RDX117 and have yet to use it. It just sits in my building taking up space. I’ve used it a couple times but I need a good 20-30” storm to really see what it can do.

      My blower is much larger, it’s 10’ wide and 2 stage. With the shoes I can’t get 2” and it’s not worth the hassle in 3” either. My shop has a radiant floor and when the blower comes in it dumps a huge mess of water. I end up using my snow wing if I even bother to plow. Our snow doesn’t stick around, it’s usually melted within a day or two. Only during polar vortex and deep freezes does it stay. I live for the 10”+ storms especially dry powder snow cause my blower will shoot it up 100’. It’s pretty cool, but we get storms like that every 3-5 years which I then debate keeping the blower or trading it in on something else.

      Btw I really enjoyed your video. I love watching videos on how capable the compacts are. I don’t know much about these tractors, my smallest tractor is a Fendt 516. I also have a few Fendt 700 series and a 800 series which are not good for blowing snow not unless it’s a really big storm like they get in Europe. I take the loader off my 516 and mount the blower on front lifting arms and PTO. It’s a nice setup but still to big a tractor for most driveways. It’s just not as versatile as your tractor for these jobs! Your little blower is pretty productive and I’m impressed how much snow it moves. Thanks for sharing!

    • @X748SE
      @X748SE  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for watching! The 54" blower still has the original plastic impeller. Since I live on a gravel road where rocks and stones are deposited on my driveway by the snow plow I decided to stay with the plastic impeller. I believe it has "saved" the blower housing a few times due to its ability to flex a bit. I really don't think it does too bad of a job and it throws the snow as far as it want it.

      Thanks for watching and your query! A couple of things that I do to help reduce snow buildup and icing around the chute. I spray with a product call "Snow Jet" which is a polymer coating and it helps keeps the snow from sticking and I carry a snow brush/ice chipper in the cab and brush off the snow build up every now and again. When the wind is blowing a bit, it is practically impossible to keep snow from eventually building up.

    After a recent move I’m considering and an X700 series tractor or a sub compact 1025R or Kubota BX series. With the price of the X700’s and 1025R being so close, how did you decide what tractor was right for you? Seems like you get much more with the sub compact as far as capabilities ?

    • @X748SE
      @X748SE  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for watching and your comment. What it really comes down to is what you will use your tractor more for. If you don't require need for a loader and it main use of the tractor will be lawn duties like mowing, aerating, fertilizing etc. and snow blowing in the winter then I would tend to lean toward the X700 series tractor. If you need a loader to do some heavier work then a 1025R may suit your needs better.

    • @X748SE
      @X748SE  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for watching and your query. I do keep the cab on all summer. I just take the doors off. The big disadvantage is the you have to be on constant look out for tree limbs. I've pretty much have my yard set up that I don't have to worry about that now. Another disadvantage is that it is a bit nosier in the cab as compared to having no cab on. The advantages that I find is the I don't have to do the arduous chore of removing, storing and reinstalling it each year and that I find that it is actually cooler in summer as the sun is not beating down on you. Plus I find that the intake for the radiator provides a cooling effect on your legs as it sucks air in through the door area. Hope that this helps in your decision.

    • @X748SE
      @X748SE  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@OrangeismyNewGreen You can't go wrong with a diesel, sips fuel as compared the the gas equivalent! As for the cost of materials for the 17P conversion i can't really say as it has gone through 7 updates/changes since I first decided to make if a dumper. First started off with a HD linear actuator but it wasn't strong enough and finally switched to a hydraulic cylinder. The hydraulics are the big ticket items and the wheels are next. If I had to do it over again a would have make one from scratch because the sloped back of the 17 causes all sort of problems, make it a bit wider and longer because my bucket on the loader seems to dump material over the ends on it and put bearing type hubs and wheels on it.

    • @X748SE
      @X748SE  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for watching and your query. Tough one! The only thing that I can think of is that maybe the hole for the shear bolt is worn or too big and it may make the auger wobble a bit during operation and thus causing wear, eventual weakening and then failure of the shear bolt.

    • @elliotboyer1041
      @elliotboyer1041 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Are you using the same sheer pins on each side? Or are your replacements on the one side different from other side??? if you just went and bought regular bolts those are most likely incorrect as lots of sheer pins are grade 8 or better. my 3039r takes grade 10.9 metric sheer pins. I believe all jd products actaully take metric grade 8 or better sheer pins/bolts. maybe worth calling dealer over.

      Thanks for watching and your query! Well here's my opinion. I would think that the type and amount of snow you get most often would dictate which blower size would be the better for your needs. If you get light and fluffy snow and less that 8" most often then I would go for 54" model. If you get quite a few dumpings of snow over 8" at time and also get wet snow now and again then I would lean toward the 47" model. Super heavy wet snow will clog the blowers most of the time. That's when I get the blade out. Hope this helps and CONGRATS on your new X730!

      @@benherstad Thanks for watching and your query. The 54" blower does has thicker/sturdier metal on the sides of the blower when compared to the 47" one. That's one of the reason I went with the 54" one. Another reason is that with a 54" blower it is easier to back up after the first run with the blower in deeper snow as the blower creates a path wider than the tractor. The 47" blower is basically the same width as the tractor and your have to backup in the exact same path or else you are dragging or knocking snow into the area you just blew. Your X749 will have no problems using a 54" blower.
