    At 1:22, how did you scale the text just with the selection tool? When I do that in Illustrator it only scales the bounding box, not the text, because the text is not outlined.

    • @EveryTuesday
      @EveryTuesday  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I don’t use text boxes for shorter length text, I use the text tool, click once and begin typing. When it’s selected, you can then scale it up without dealing with a text box. I only use text boxes for lengthy text 👍

    • @EveryTuesday
      @EveryTuesday  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      GLASSARTZ62 Ah, I gotcha. For those, you'd use the blend tool, blending together 2 lines that have a small stroke weight and increase the number of steps for your blend (like 100+). Mask it into text like the line gradient tutorial and you'll get closer to that Map type :)

      If you know the color values that you want to use, just select your rectangle tool and make the squares,then fill them with the colors you will be using. I used to wonder the same thing when I first started using Illustrator.

    Should have done this in the appearance panel. You could retain editable text with this same look.

    • @EveryTuesday
      @EveryTuesday  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Devin Chaves If there's a way to get this exact kind of hatch effect using just the appearance panel, I'm all ears :)

    • @devvvvvvvvvvvv
      @devvvvvvvvvvvv 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Teela Cunningham (Every-Tuesday) Not the same style, but the techniques are the same here. Have a look at this Ai file. www.dropbox.com/s/yzxwrli4copj3yq/Hatched%20Text.ai?dl=0

    • @deejayqueue
      @deejayqueue 9 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      +Teela Cunningham (Every-Tuesday) Here's how you do this using the appearance panel:
      1. Create a pattern of the gold hatch. The quickest (but not the cleanest) way I've found is to draw a diagonal line, with a 1pt stroke. Color it how you want to, then hit Object --> Pattern --> Make. In the resulting tool box, Select "Brick by Row" from the drop down bar, and enter .1 for the width and the height. This pattern will look ok, but may scale a bit janky. You can always tweak it later.
      2. Select your text, go to the Appearance panel. Create a fill that has the Dark Grey color.
      3. Then underneath that, create a new fill with the hatch pattern you just made.
      4. With the Hatch Pattern fill selected, click the fx button, go to "Distort & Transform" --> Transform. Enter a negative value for the horizontal and a positive value for vertical. I used .05" as an increment.
      5. Next create a new stroke in the appearance panel, make it white, set the stroke to an appropriate thickness.
      6. Go to the Graphic Styles tab and, with your text selected, open the context menu on the side and select "New Graphic Style" Once you have your graphic style swatch, select it and in the context menu again, go to "Save Graphic Style Library." Presto! Now you have a custom, non-destructive, text-selectable hatched drop shadow effect that you can use on any document wherever you like.
      Cheers!

      +Mary Stoiana The Blend tool is just one way to create blends. Try this method: Select your two lines with the Selection Tool. Go to Object > Blend > Make. You should see lines appear between the two. Now, go to Object > Blend a second time, and select Blend Options this time, and edit your blend. I like to turn on Preview to see my changes live.
