    Have a great weekend and remember to check out more Illustrator content across the multiple playlists that I have on my channel homepage, summing up to around 6 years of content!
    Also check out a new and upcoming channel, Todoroho Studio, who gave me inspiration for a part of todays video.
    Peace out

      I was thinking that same thing. I knew I had put in a lot of learning, experimenting and had expanded my skills.. the exciting thing is - when you know more, you understand more and you can learn even more. And that learning happens faster and can inspire more experimentation. I love Illustrator… I wonder if I’ll ever love InDesign.. lol

    the first tip, scale tool, I just make a shape with whatever width, duplicate it 4 time, put them edge to edge, then select all and use normal mouse scale the whole thing to the width of the artboard. Bam. 4 shapes, each have 25% width of the original artboard :D

    • @drew9453
      @drew9453 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That's exactly what I do for multiple shapes I want at the same width/height. So much less clicking. It's cool to know the other options are there. But sometimes, those options actually make the process longer.

    • @ElohAraphel
      @ElohAraphel ปีที่แล้ว

      Or just draw a rectangle, split it into grid of 4 columns, and scale it to the shape you desire.

    Even better for shadows. Live trace the hand and pull the traced hand, then run through the gradient & blur options.

    Hi,
    You don't need to copy the color code and paste. In the gradient bar... bottom left corner you will see the color picker tool....this will save your few sec. in the gradient slider you have to choose which color you want to change, select the color, select color picker from down side of gradient bar, choose color you want, and done...

      or select the color you want to change in the gradient bar, hit 'I', then Shift-click any color and it will become a color in your gradient

  • @5even5eals
    @5even5eals ปีที่แล้ว +3

    With color point selected on a gradient you can sample it with shift-click using eyedropper on the go, without all this hex copy-paste hassle.

    You actually don't need a Scale Tool for making a quarter of width. You just can write after your width value in the Transform panel /4, for example "1000 px /4" and press Enter, so Illusthator will calculate this new value and write 250 px instead of 1000/4

    • @TrollProductionsMC
      @TrollProductionsMC ปีที่แล้ว +1

      yeh it's much faster, even though there is a lot of use for the transform panel.

    For the hand shadow: actually, I would apply the sampled background color to the dark end of the shadow gradient as well. Then use Hue to darken it to get to that asphalt black.
    That doesn't seem very useful here because your BG seems to be white. However, if the background had any color to it at all, the above method would work much better. The midrange on a gradient tends to produce color which doesn't seem to belong.
    Of course, you could always just use black and white and then use the Multiply feature in the Opacity panel to force all colors of the gradient to properly interact with the BG.

    The actual workaround for the unfavorable edges when working with raster effects...
    Effects > Document Raster Settings
    You should see "Add: 36px Around Object" under the Options pane
    36px is the default, try higher (maybe 100px) and the edges should disappear

      I've mentioned this many many times on the channel (this video from 4 years ago th-cam.com/video/u4TT1yBJZIs/w-d-xo.html ) but it doesn't always work that well. For instance, when you have a very large design it won't actually help that much. Feathering works best.

    can you suggest how I can learn illustrator from beginner to advanced? and where did you learn it?

    • @drew9453
      @drew9453 ปีที่แล้ว

      I've been working with Illustrator for almost a decade now, and the best method for me has literally been through watching videos just like this. I think most people learning on their own tend to learn better as they simply do it more. Anytime I have an idea or problem in mind while creating, I simply search for that particular solution, and over time you eventually pick up on enough to create efficiently. You also start to find out that the problems you run into are the same ones over and over. So once you learn it, the instincts to find better or more efficient ways to fix them become easier. A lot of these types of videos will also give you little nuggets in between that are just as or even more helpful than what the video is mainly about.
      I would also suggest learning, and practicing shortcut keys. Once I got a hang of working better with both hands, my workflow increased tremendously. A lot of holding "ALT" and "SHIFT" lol. Then of course "COMMAND/CONTROL +" shortcuts. Honestly, no better way to learn than repetition. I also, personally, worked at a garment print shop, where I knew very little... or at a slightly intermediate level. Never even really touched Illustrator. Mostly photoshop, and even fireworks (took one class in high school) Other designers at the shop were always helpful. But I picked up a lot there as well. Simplifying my work space, file organization, learning different format files for different applications... there is a lot that you can pick up just by being in spaces that utilize these tools consistently.

    Whatever else I'll be doing today, I can rest easy knowing that the most useless thing is past me, i.e. wasting 4 minutes on this video here. But that's only because I actually use Illustrator, and showing me these things is like inventing warm water all over again.

    If you thought Illustrator was boring and you learned this, sorry but is still boring 😃.
